Recently was informed the series did get good marketing in UK and Europe. Small detail, but I couldn't find solid confirmation anywhere other than IMDb reviews cause there's so little to go off of for official information about advertising lol
I find it hilarious that Disney canned this because they thought it wasn't profitable in spite of 101 Dalmatians being one of their more popular brands, especially among young children. It's even more ridiculous Disney is worried about losing money when they already own like 50% of the known market these days.
@@soapbiter36577 No, the problem is that all the big corporations have to appeal to investors. This is _uniquely_ a late stage capitalism problem. Independent media is in a far healthier state that corporate media these days. The problem is that people will more often lean on big corporations for funding because the alternative is a lot harder. Even having a crowdfunding campaign in the current state of social media can be an uphill battle.
@Yosuka Maybe the 101 Dalmatian brand is too old or just not interesting enough, since it has not had any new activity since the 1990s, but when you have 40% or 50% of the market these days, 101 Dalmatians not being profitable should not be a big issue for you if you just give it a chance to have an audience in the US. This show is kinda an underrated gem. I like how it's basically The Loud House with Dalmatians, but better. I like how nearly all of the Dalmatians. including the background characters, were given some focus and had their personalities shine throughout the series. I also like the idea of these Dalmatians being the descendants of Pongo and Perdita. Some of my favorite characters are Dolly, Dante, Dorothy, and Delgado. I thought it was pretty fun and deserved another chance.
It's not technically like The Loud House because the main character is actually a duo and they act more like the "big brothers" of the other pups. They're the older ones. Lincoln in his case is the middle child and the only boy.
@@sillyperson1610 Neither Lynn senior. But he's also named with an initial L. Just like the Dalmatians are named all with an initial D even the parents.
It sucks when a show fails not because it was bad but because the network just didn’t really give it a chance. If it’s not an instant hit it’s not worth keeping around, and this is isn’t even just with cartoons either.
@@flow185 Disney pay more attention to shows with good ratings. I read that 101DS was unable to get good ratings. When it finally came to the US, the ratings was very low sadly.
They never even tried to market it from the start, meaning they literally sent it out there to die. If they marketed it and not enough people watched, that's one thing. But to literally refuse to even attempt to take a chance on a new show and then killing it later is just plain ridiculous.
Man, reading through the list of names that all the background pups have you can see that some of them were clearly meant to be characters in a later season, there’s a third set of triplets and everything. The season finale also clearly set up Hunter to possibly take the role of the family’s stand-in human, and, considering he speaks dog language, so much could’ve been done with him. Now I’m sad.
@@zerareota1560 Yeah, both of them were meant to be the Disney versions of Zukos. Hunter in the Owl House had episodes of his character development, reality checked, backstory, learn his own identity, and seeing how horrible his family member is. He turned on Belos. He also go through a story arc of being his own person. As for Hunter in 101 Dalmatian Street, we didn't get much episodes of him. We had no backstory of him and what does he do when he's not going after the Dalmatians. What is his relationships with other people besides Cruella, how he ended up with her, and so on. Hunter becoming a good guy at the last episode was really rush and forced. It was done poorly. The writers and the directors dropped the idiot ball on this.
@@AH-is5ygthat’s not completely fair. If they didn’t realize they weren’t going for a second season, what COULD they do? It’s like how Owl House was supposed to get wayyyy more than 3 seasons. They had to make do with what they could. You can’t rush character arcs, your right. So they probably weren’t intending to, and then realized they HAD to make Hunter a good guy at least before the show ‘ends’
This series was honestly a big comfort show for me. I enjoyed seeing Dylan and Dollys brother and sister twin like relationship and though they were fun to watch as a pair. I also loved Josh Brener in this and thought he played Dylan’s character really well.
One of the animators already came out last year and said that season 2 isn’t being worked on and the crew already moved on. Disney apparently canceled it back in 2020 once season 1 was finished in the UK and didn’t give it to NA until a year later. As much as I want another season, it doesn’t look like it’s happening.
@@koichidignitythief7429 thats correct, but i dont think i will live to see a "second season" in other 20 years (my heart isnt exacty in good shape), meanwhile i will check fanfics of the show, sometimes you can find something interesting
I saw this back during quarantine and absolutely adored it. Dante, D-pak and Dawkins are my favorite and the rest of the cast is such a joy to watch. I've been dying for a second season and I really hope this show makes a comeback because it definitely deserves a season 2.
I didn’t think I’d care at first, but now I’m genuinely pissed that Disney tried to kill this off. Ducktales (2017) is one of the only reboots I wholeheartedly love and this feels like it could’ve been the next great one.
It's such a terrible show. It's so bad that listens to Nickelback. It's so bad that it watches Battlefield Earth. 101 Dalmatian Street is garbage. It is on the same level of bad as HBO'S Velma.
It surprises me that they've shunted this show, because as a preschool teacher, I can tell you this is /exactly/ the sort of character designs that pretty much all toddlers would froth over. I could easily see this as competition to MLP and Ninja Turtles merch where every kid has their favorite dog and has to own everything relating to said dog in turn
So I JUST finished this series......wtf Disney, I honestly fell in love with this cartoon. It took me until episode 7 to realize that all of their names started with D🤣 the animation is simple yet beautiful, loving all the voice actors, I love their Corgi Karen neighbor, and I'm a sucker for a good villain and man did they do Cruella right😍😍 thank you for opening my eyes to this lovely, funny cartoon 😁😁😁
It's interesting to see someone talking about 101 Dalmatians, I feel like people forget it even exists. It's one of my favorites to come from Disney, and I used to watch the live action movie all the time. Now I have something new I need to check out, cause I had no idea this show was a thing.
I'm so glad I'm not the only American fan of 101 Dalmatian Street. I remember when this was announced around the same time as Amphibia and The Owl House. But felt puzzled how Disney has been very silent on the series in the US until after Season 1 finished airing.
It kills me that this wasn’t as popular as some of the other shows they’ve got. I absolutely loved this series! Great characters, great art style, and great episodes. Even had a great couple of tie-ins to the original 101 movie. I really hope they make a second season. Also, Dante is best Dalmatian. No room for discussion.
I already am in love with this art style! I love how the Dalmatians are the same yet different and highly stylized!! I love stylized designs and I do it with my art!!
IKR! This art style is so unique and how the backgrounds, characters, and foregrounds are designed just makes me want to set a nice shot of this show as my wallpaper EVERYWHERE.
as a little girl, Pongo and Perdie were the "mother and father I wanted to grow up to be like" as an adult... I just adore that they're such a huge family and still make everything work.
What's weirder is that I remember Disney Channel UK (now shutdown) was promoting the heck out of this show back in 2018. There was a few buses in the UK that was entirely overlayed to featuring the characters in this show.
I’m so glad someone has finally bothered to give this show the public recognition it deserves, i remember all the way back in 2019 seeing a few shortads for it on disney channel (being in the uk at the time) and not thinking much of it. But recently, using disney plus more often, my younger sibling has fallen in love with it and from what ive seen, it certainly intrigues me. From the artstyle, my appreciation for the og books and the fact that the show is literally set in Camden, where i visit often (and where my sibling was born - perhaps why she likes it so much), I’m happy to see someone take to it as much as she did, and happy to learn moreabout it!
Saw it all on Disney Plus but yeah...this newer series was a year old when we got it while other countries already enjoyed it! Personally, I love it!!! Love Dante the most! It just feels like Disney had no faith in it for the US Market.
Weird considering how the 101 Dalmatians Franchise was gaining a resurgence in popularity between the mid 1990s and 2000s period. I remember 101 Dalmatians was briefly on par with Winnie the Pooh in terms of popularity (thanks to two successful live-action films). Heck Disney was planning on giving similar treatment with The Aristocats around that same period thanks to Marie's popularity.
@@nyanpirethecat2257 they still produce aristocats merch for some reason even though it hasn't seen the light of day as a franchise in over..... 52 years????????
Disney has slowly been pushing their animation studios aside. I know for a lot of folks this sounds impossible and they'll try to bring up things like Pixar but notice how even those films have been treated poorly in the last 5 or so years but I have my own theory onto why this is happening and it all comes down to who is in charge. Are they animators? No. Are they people who respect animation at the least? No. Are they people who understand the process of animation and realize that animation IS the legacy of Disney in that it started a global chain that not just kickstarted theatrical color films in the US but it can be argued that without Disney we wouldn't have anime as we know it right now. Again, the answer is NO. Disney is being led by profit people and business people who have their biases on what they want to market and sell and animation ain't it. Right now, the biggest thing Disney has is Marvel and Star Wars and all arguments aside on how Disney is handling them, those two are the biggest cash cows on top of the ones that bring in the most returns, are faster to produce and can be cheaper to make if you know how to shuffle your resources around. Animation is time consuming even with CG. It can take 4, 5 or even longer for ONE animated movie to be produced and right now Disney is running on a cycle where they want dozen upon dozens of 'connected universes' to come out within ONE YEAR and you just can't force that with animation, even with the smaller screen. Disney as it is does not value animation because to them they see nothing of value in it that they can't get a better return from. They want BILLION dollar Marvel movies and some animated movies are lucky to make back their budget or crack 3x times that but that is still not enough in their eyes. It's why animators are being paid shit, it's why they're not retaining creatives, it's why things like this happen. Current Disney does not value the old Disney and how it even made it possible for things to have gotten so big now and that's because the people in charge ARE NOT DISNEY or the ones who understood both the business and the foundation of the company. Remember, when they made Mary Poppins 2 they were in a scramble to find 2D animators not so much because they shuttered the 2D department but because they honestly didn't have anyone on hand who knew it a the basics, even at their 3D studios apparently which is all sorts of fucked up. If people want Disney to value animation again, then they need to get animators IN the company again and NOT just new folks. We DO need the old guard because they will teach the new folks the history and legacy of the films that made it possible for the company to get THIS far. You can't just forget history and expect things to go smoothly, especially for the company that was fuckin' built on animation but here we go. Current Disney sucks. Just watch the classics, learn from them, and apply your talent and skills towards people who will appreciate them. Disney clearly doesn't. And just as a side note; the original movie AND the series DO have a very odd connection that I didn't realize until later. The series picks up where the original movie left off but put the setting in the current day but even more than that, the series actually focuses on Lucky, Roly, and Cadpig who were the most focused on pups from the BOOK so the series in a way is like a different follow up to the book, without it being the actual sequel TO the book. Yes, look it up. It is fuckin' WILD.
TL;DR Disney is run by businessmen (not really big news) who only see profit and are not passionate about the animation industry in the slightest, which leads to, but not limited to: Crunch, hiring bad writers, little marketing to things they deem non important, lazy products, everlasting sagas of sequels.
true, though the series did borrow elements from both movies and Dodie Smith's novel such as the Dearly surname which was in the novel as well as the live action movie. Also, the names of the puppies came from the novels and movies. Novel: Cadpig Animated movie: Lucky Rolly Patch Live action movie: Two-Tone Dipstick Wizzer Jewel (she was mentioned by name in the series but never seen) Also some more stuff in the series such as Roger being both a musician and video game developer (he was a musician in the original movie and a video game developer in the live action movie), while Anita worked for Cruella (she did so in the live action movie).
Interestingly cute that Just Stop has a favorite movie series that isn't what most people would choose. Hell, one of my most favorite movies is also something most people wouldn't pick nor isn't traditionally masculine, it's Tangled. Love many of the things from it. Far better than Frozen personally. Edit: Wow! Didn't expect for this comment to get this many likes. I appreciate this.
And one of my favorite shows is Summer Camp Island. Not your typical deep story driven cartoon, instead it's a very chill show with fun and well written characters. It can get nuts at times but not in a way that's annoying or too extreme.
When you realize that Dante is a reference to the most traumatizing scene (for the dogs) in the original film; when the dogs were pretending to be Labradors to sneak past cruella, and ended up reverse-colored (and almost got caught) due to dripping water.
ive never seen anything on the media that appreciated this show for what it is until now, and ive been in the fandom since november of 2019. i really hope this show gets a second season since i adore all of the chraracters in this show and i hope we flesh them out more, so thank you so much for this video it validates me because for the longest time i thought i was the only person that loved this show
The worst thing to kill a show is when networks use it as a tax write-off. Symbiotic Titan and Megas XLR fell victim to that on Cartoon Network, a network needs a kick-back to get some extra cash from their taxes, so they write off a series as a financial failure to make more money, and because of that you have to rely on past recordings or if you're a good kid all year, maybe Santa will put it on a streaming service.
I really love 101 Dalmatian Street. The stories were fun, the art style is very adorable, and the characters were fun and entertaining with their personalities. It’s very sad to see that the show is cancelled due to low ratings and marketing because that show is worth something special. While I’m not a huge 101 Dalmatians fan, 101 Dalmatian Street gives me a lot of enjoyment with the things they have to offer. Overall, 101 Dalmatian Street is one of my Disney cartoons alongside Phineas and Ferb, Kim Possible, and Milo Murphy’s Law. You made a great video JS, keep up the excellent work! 👍
Kim Possible is my favourite Disney cartoon hands down. Only thing that could come close to it nowadays is Nickelodeon's Glitch Techs, another underrated series like 101 Dalmatian Street. Glitch Techs barely got the green light to work on season 3, which is set to come out in August-September.
TRON: Uprising is possibly in my eyes the most unique lookin', & distinctive cartoon or i guess animation i've ever seen when when it came out/launched in 2012 10 yrs ago.
You got me to watch this series... And honoustly, I am really surprised how much I loved it. If all Disney spinoffs were like this, I'd start watching their other stuff again.
Wow, a new series based on an existing property released in the last 5 years that is both respectful of the original property and maintains it's spirit? That's almost unheard of.
My best guess why this was crippled is Cruella. This show was produced in 2019 and aired in the UK in 2020 but didn't come to the US until fall 2021 and Cruella came out in May. That movie bombed horribly. On a maximum budget of $200 million, it made $233 million which also doesn't factor in marketing and such My guess is that Disney was so badly burned by the abysmal box office that they decided to scrub themselves clean of everything 101 Dalmatians related but the contract forced them to air it in the USA in some capacity.
The show was already cancelled before then. Someone who worked on the show said they weren’t green lit for a second season and season 1 finished airing in 2020. They haven’t worked on it since.
@@koichidignitythief7429 I was reading what sources said. Another sources said that the director and creator of the series admitted that season 1 was poorly executed and read about the bad reviews. That's what sources says.
I really, really, REALLY hope Dalmatian Street gets a 2nd season. I instantly fell in love with the show just from the opening. It’s such a charming show that deserve so much better.
101 Dalmatian Street really has an advantage since it was written by a new UK division of Disney Television Animation and animated by Atomic Cartoons in Canada. It helps getting that UK vibe perfectly.
Fun Fact: (Season 2) Finale of Milo Murphy's Law has a more rating than Finale of Star vs. Force of Evil. Despite MML started with a Disney XD cartoon, I am great that it was shined. I Wish, Kick Buttowski or Randy Cunningham got a shine too. It's a shame that all channels only care about ratings.
Just when I was about to watch Tricky Fox's review of the final episode of the series and probably say goodbye to the Streets series forever on here, your review suddenly came up out of nowhere to me and I'm glad that someone as big as you decided to have a review of it. I hope more people got to watch it and I hope the other cartoon reviewers like Jordan Fringe and Hatsoffmedia gives 101 Dalmatian Streets review it too to get the show a bit more life even though the creator seems to plan to not even make a Season 2 even if it becomes popular again Edit: (I'm not so sure about that though). Anyway I'm glad that you decided to review it and stretch that time up to another week for me. 101 Dalmatians Streets will always be a fun series for me to watch.
It is indeed a nice show to watch, even for a grown ass dude like myself, it reminds me of when I actually used to watch tv. Though it honestly makes me sad to watch it and have fun doing so because I know the chances of a second season are 0.035% so it's pretty much like watching a living corpse. Definitely a show I'd show (hah) to my kids, if I ever have any.
Speaking of 101 Dalmatians, I remember there was the 1996 live-action adaptation of the movie (along with the sequel) which I find it underrated compared to the Disney remakes we have nowadays. Glenn Close really did a fabulous job as Cruella de Vil.
I find the 1996 life action to be very gritty in its portrayal of London which felt true to the time, unlike the animation version which was very idealized version of London. Not to knock of the animation, but they did the live action right, but that was a different time where Disney kinda cared about what they made, instead of chasing that $$$ like scrooge mcduck would have done.
I was on vacation in Mexico and wanted to pass some time in my room. I found a channel with some shows in English while others were in Spanish. It mindlessly watched through a Spanish show before 101 Dalmatian Street came on and I was immediately hooked. I’d assumed I hadn’t heard of the show because I hadn’t watched Disney channel in more than a decade but to my surprise, I came back to the states to find that the *english* show didn’t air in America! So I pirated a few episodes and enjoyed each one. Then once Disney+ went live I eagerly got an account in hopes of watching 101 Dalmatian Street. But for some reason it wasn’t on there at launch. I was so annoyed that I even sent Disney a feedback message stating that I wouldn’t be renewing by Disney+ until they put the show on there. Once they finally did I binged the entire thing. It’s honestly a great show, good enough to get someone who was in no way aware of it or looking to watch a kid’s show hooked instantly. I would kill for a sequel and I can’t say how many times I’ve rewatched it. It’s charming, unique and surprises you with a sudden genre change every now and then. Not to mention it has an actually enjoyable intro and outro song. Now learning how poorly this was marketed, I’m aware how lucky I am I got to see this show.
Yeah it is a shame that the show had to be cancelled after one season. But this is definitely not the first time I have seen Disney or other networks cancel a show after one season. Regardless, we try to make the best out of the situation and always have a good time. Hopefully, future shows won't get cancelled too soon.
_"Dante....may not have the most screentime..."_ Really? I coulda sworn everytime there's trouble (which are often) he's always present to narate _THEIR IMPENDING DOOM!_
It is weird because I do know that it was ALL over Disney XD like how they kept hyping up that one hotel Transylvania cartoon that nobody remembers. Except this one looks kind of interesting compared to the hotel Transylvania cartoon! Might check this out again on Disney+.
I found out about this show on a commercial that played after the DuckTales series finale and thought it was another show that was going to get cancelled in 2 to 3 seasons and didn't know it existed before
@@lylelylecrocodile2538 I also remember this one time where Nickelodeon bought this French cartoons called oggy and the cockroaches! And it lasted for a month on nick and fox kids.
Only ever heard of this show thru artwork on pinterest, and I was curious to if it was good or not. But, this video essay has gotten my interest piqued so when I have the time I am also gunna watch this. Thank you for this insightful video.
I wished to watch more of this when it first premiered. It is pretty much The Loud House done right and it should've been more successful than the Cruella film.
@Marav Reviews that's ok. I did read the writers of the series did mess up. They wanted to have the series to be episodic and little story on the series. But it was poorly executed and it was poor decisions. At the end it was the directors' and the writers' fault.
I really really loved DaVinci's episode because of the message it sent and the experimental animation, and i felt really bad knowing that Disney being the money hungry tyrant that it is did so much to rug sweep all of the show. I also loved it when we finally met up with the main antagonist because of how well they were portrayed, they honestly scared me just as much as the Dalmatians. This series deserves a second season and a fair chance.
I remember not knowing about this show at all and then someday i saw that one episode where they were freezing but i only saw a small part then i saw the episode where hunter tries to get the triple D's DNA and when i saw those episode i pretty much thought that they just try to bring the Dalmatian franchise back to life after it died so I didn't really bother watching it later when i got Disney+ i just couldn't stop watching it when i found out it was cancelled it just honestly made me wanna cry there are always comfort shows i watch that help me relax and make me happy but i never had one since 101ds i am still re-watching that show even if i saw the episode many times it's just awesome to experience the show over and over and over again it makes me happy but also sad when i remember how Disney just screwed it over
I had a 101 Dalmatian related binge trip last month, including 101 Dalmatian Street on Disney Plus this last month. I had picked up the series via pirating around 2019 and remembered enjoying what I saw. It’s good to see someone talk about it after coincidentally rewatching most of the franchise. (I have a soft spot for 102 Dalmatians tho).
I really hope this dos get a second season. Me and many are showing our passion 101 dalmatian street. There are many who have done so much to show they love for the show. I just really wish Disney gave this show a better chance to shine.
I've been a huge 101 Dalmatians fan since childhood, and I remember being excited for this show when it was announced, only to not even know it came out at all. Great video, I'll try and check out the first season soon!
I found 101 Dalmation Street by sheer accident while traipsing around UA-cam one day. Upon discovering it, I scoured the internet for a way to watch the whole series (I ain't giving Disney my money). I found one, I watched it, and I fell in love with it. I love the dynamics between the siblings (and their friends), I love the animation, and I especially love the theme song, it's a wholesome and energetic bop that I just couldn't skip! And now I know why such a good show never continued... and thus I can put my hopes to rest....
i was big into the ducktales 2017 fandom when the show was around & as a result i saw a LOT of 101 dalmatian street - it never crossed my mind that i never even saw ads for it, i was so used to the people around me posting about it! it’s a real shame that the show was canned, i LOVED the art and i had heard it was pretty decent. i definitely want to watch it someday!
I've only seen a few clips of the show. But it seems to be made for a more younger audience than like say Owl House, Duck Tale Reboot or Gravity Falls. So that might be one of the reason that it isn't as popular as those shows, in addition to it being screwed over by Disney of course.
There was a mid season hiatus, and all the episodes after the midway point feel more on level with DuckTales than some of the episodes that came prior. Less repetitive dialogue and basic stories. It’s still a slice of life episodic show though.
You have no idea how livid I was when Motorcity got the shaft so quickly. We're lucky we even got a relatively decent send-off that's still open for future episodes. I am very looking forward to that "series ended by paid channels" video. Not just to see examples I like, but ones I possibly wish I could've seen and continued on.
earlier this year my siblings became obsessed with this show after finding it on Disney plus and binge watched it all and I watched some and found it really good
I never knew this show existed, nor would I have probably watching it knowing that, but the art style is adorable. I love the uniqueness with the pups even down to the ears, and its just really cool seeing a disabled character portrayed (although I totally will be checking it out after this review) Edit: Finished watching the series as I loved it so much, I with more was done with Hunter but if the show ever gets a 2nd season I hope they do more with him. Honestly, I really wished that he would have became the human for the Dalmation family
can I just say I *love* the reference you did at the end, including the clock sound effect and that iconic thundercrack at the end? I just loved that touch so much
I haven’t seen this show, but I honestly do find it kinda funny that there’s literally 3 puppies named Dimitri. It’s like the parents kept forgetting they already had a kid named Dimitri, but they still end giving two of their kids the same name.
This video came up in my recommendations out of nowhere and I have to say I'm so glad it did. I've been binging 101 Dalmatian Street all day and I absolutely adore it! I'm real sad that the likelihood of a second season is really low, this show is such a gem! Thanks for making this video, I never would have heard about the show otherwise!
Finally, it's been 2 years since I've waited and asked yt cartoon reviewers like you to make a video on 101DS, thank you. I hope this boost the popularity of the show
I found this series a little over a year ago and binged it, and I can wholeheartedly say it is a spectacular show. I'd be so hyped if they continued it
Honestly i loved the show. I heard of it back when it first came out in 2019, and actually started to watch it in 2020 or 2021. At that time, Disney XD was pretending the show was new, making me think it got a S2, but they were actually re-airing episodes. Maybe this could have been a sign of S2 I thought, but as time went on without any news, I knew it was probably canceled which was a shame bc I loved Hunter's character development and how a lot of the pups had personalities like The Series from 1997 with the air style.
I only heard of this show because last year I got Disney XD for free for a month and I accidentally stumbled onto this show while channel surfing. While I didn't get to finish watching it on there I was able to watch the whole series on Disney+ and I really enjoyed it. Fun trivia: the VA for Dolly is also the VA for Amethyst on Steven Universe.
I REMEMBER THIS- as soon as I saw it memories of me binging the whole series in one sitting came to me. This show definitely has a place in my heart as one great cartoon!
This was one of my favorite shows. I have no idea why the network hates it so much. It’s got great characters, great art style, and a great fandom! But why would they just get rid of it, you know? I mean, if Disney had a chance to do something like this, it wouldn’t be to hide this from us. It’s great, and everything, but Disney just doesn’t want the whole franchise to be embarrassed about themselves though even though they just own 50% of everything Disney related these days. Furthermore, I think this show is an underrated gem and must be more well recognized. Btw, I think Dolly Dalmatian is adorable! 🥰
I remember watching some episodes on Disney XD. I remember it was often advertised, and I got surprised when I learned it wasn’t as popular as I thought
Tbh Hunter De Vil (I love his name lmao) was honestly one of my favorite characters. Idk why, but he just is. Maybe it’s the way he kinda stepped down towards his great aunt and didn’t want to catch the puppies anymore.
I remembered watching some episodes of 101 Dalmatian street way back when Disney+ first launched. I did actually liked the series and how uniquely different the animation style was. This video actually convinced me to go back and finish watching the rest of the show! :D
The situation with Dalmatian Street is actually pretty similar to another cartoon, Its Pony, a hidden gem that Nick throws onto Nicktoons for a 10PM slot one day a week, to silently kill it off
It's Pony! might be the funniest modern nicktoon, but Nick were too focused at trying to squish every dollar possible from Loud House till leaving it dry.

The characters are fun and memorable, the writing is funny, and the content is appropriate and entertaining for all ages without any of the... controversial stuff Disney has been getting flak for the last few years. It is a really solid kids show. It doesn't surprise me that Disney did not have faith in this show. On the surface it looks like yet another show trying to cash in on a popular Disney IP while making it "cool" and "hip" for the youngsters. Additionally, the most popular cartoons right now tend to be adventure series focused on an older audience and quirky world building. I can definitely see how an exec can look at this (mostly) slice of life aesop driven show focused on a bunch of dogs living in Camden and not be enthused. Therefore we the audience must prove them wrong. I implore you to check it out if you can.
Love this show so much, stinks how its been treated. Thinking of renewing my disney + account just to watch this show again....on repeat help drive up the numbers. Really cute and fun show! Always tried to catch it after work and loved listening to it's catchy theme songs driving to work. Really appreciate all the diverse characters! hope it gets that season 2 it deserves!
You're not alone with your obsession :D I mostly love the animated movie and the series, but both of them hold a special place in my heart, as they always managed to grab my imagination, and the new show had a really tough act to follow. I was at first a little hesitant about the art style, but once I saw it in motion, it really grew on me. And even though one or two episodes are kinda lackluster, I really love the family dynamics they created (so far that even the parents - who are barely involved - felt completely fleshed out). i wished they had more ideas for DJ and DaVinci and Delgado, instead of constantly focussing on Dylan, but I'm glad about what we got. And of course - Dante! He's a treasure.
A pet peeve of mine about pieces of media that have main casts in the hundreds is that some will inevitably end up as background characters if they appear at all. A great example is the film Split. The characters repeatedly claim that the antagonist has 24 different personalities, but only 8 of them get real screen time. It's very much a nitpick, but either commit to the gimmick of a huge cast or cut it all back to what the script can facilitate.
I mean they managed to make like 20 Dalmatians into actual characters. And since all of them had names, would be interesting in next seasons (if it wasn't cancelled) to see background characters having their own unique episodes without the "main crew".
Yes! I needed a video like this in my life so much, I love the 101 Dalmatians movies (though I haven't watched the first animated series but I'd love to give that a try, I've seen clips of it before and don't mind Cruella being a bit goofy since as mentioned, it's a different iteration) and it's such a travesty to see advertising for Dalmatian Street for just a few weeks and so on Disney XD, trying to watch it consistently, only to realize that after a while it jumps air times! I really couldn't agree more, it sure seemed Disney wanted to bury this cartoon. My favorite thing about the extra pups in this show is how their movement is constantly shown as a huge wave. It reminds me of the movement of the wolf pack from one of my favorite animated movies, Wolfwalkers!
Thank you. I worked on the show animation. Alot of those people really worked hard and kicked ass. It's nice to hear some people appreciated what we worked on.
When it comes to streaming, all they'd have to do is not give it another season. Looking at you Netflix. Not to mention all the other times this is happened with a streaming show owned by someone else like with Glitch Techs and Infinity Train Season 5. Streaming viewership numbers are controlled by the streaming service, there's no Nielsen ratings for them. Truly a corporations' wet dream: The ability to straight up lie to investors about it.
there was a Lot of good animated shows that Disney had. It’s a shame that a majority of them won’t likely get the time and day to be seen or if Disney feels like adding more content through there streaming service.🐱
I love this show! I watched it when it came out on disney plus UK as I was excited to see a series set in somewhere I know to a decent extent and the small details that were UK specific. I also really enjoyed the songs that they produced. I was a bit surprised to see how awfully it did tbh as I found it so enjoyable, I think it's also something that could produce a healthy sized fandom with how the small one that exists currently is. Thank you for making a video to spread awareness about this show, I really hope that they do a second season!
God I love this show! I found the fandom first on tumblr fairly early, and basically stalked the show online while it was airing trying to find links to the new episodes as they aired. Was it tedious? Oh definitely but waiting for it to come to Disney+ or air in the US was killing me so it was worth it. And now I can rewatch it when I want, it really did get looked over unfortunately
I discovered this show on Disney+ at first just thinking it was a random show I could watch to kill some time. The next day I realized I was watching the finale and hadn’t been able to stop watching
Interesting. I came here expecting mainly to hear about Disney Corporate Drama, with no real interest in the 101D franchise. I'd enjoyed the original movie as a kid in theatre (yes I'm old thanks for noticing), but was never interested in any of the knock-on shows or movies. It was, after all, a gimmick flick: how many variations on the same gimmick are worth watching? So I gave 101 Dalmatian Street a pass without a second thought the one or two times I may have seen it pop up. Now I think I missed out. I REALLY like the idea of advancing the timeline, having the show be about the descendants of the original characters. Not just because it gives a chance for new characters and their development, but mainly because it just makes sense if it's going to be set in the modern day. The "World Wide Woof" is likewise an interesting update which slots well with the point of the original: a parallel to the telegraph/telephone systems of the era. But what really sells it for me is the unique animation design. High energy, low drag, doesn't look like a frame is wasted, and the color palette fits perfectly. I'm gonna hunt these dogs down myself. Thanks for the tip!
Something I dont agree is the color palette. I dont know but it feels off to me. I'm young but I feel like a boomer about cartoons because I feel they look weird, be it the """calarts""" thing going on or whatever.
thank you for bringing attention to this adorable show. I was really bummed that it NEVER was acknowledged in the USA, I only saw it when i was in the UK with my wife during 2020 covid. The art style is unique and the character designs and voices are so dynamic and perfect
i watched this show over the summer of 2021, as i didn't have any electronic devices and the only thing i had was a tv that had cable. it's a cute show, i absolutely adore the art and animation style and i'm upset that it got canned like that. long and painful.
My dog loves watching 101 Dalmatians! She always sits in front of the tv and watches it. So cute! From when I brought her home at 8wks, 15lbs to now at 3 years old and 107lbs. She actively enjoys it. Anything else she will ignore. Dogs are so funny that way. I didn’t know this show was a thing, but like many kids, I didn’t even have the basic Disney channel for most of my childhood.
Glad to have someone cover this! I heard this was coming out, saw something interesting about it that I don’t remember, and then never heard from it again. Which reminds me, what happened to the chip and dale show with John mulaney? Did I miss something or did it get changed/scrapped/otherwise set aside? Even if you hadn’t specifically been discussing this show, I’m super glad to see someone discussing the fate of Disney XD shows. The fact that it mostly only happens to the animated ones actually made me think for a long while that Disney XD was just their new version of Toon Disney; that it was the animation channel. Which was supported by the fact that Nick had Nicktoons, so it wasn’t an unheard of decision. But I’ve had lots of the shows I’ve loved be pushed to Disney XD, with my absolute favourite meeting the fate so much that anyone I’ve talked to in person has never even heard of it, though that doesn’t say that much, but even plenty of people online forget it’s existence, even around the time of the second season’s release bomb, and one of the main show creators being very open to fan interaction. So, when I saw those example clips of Disney XD shows, I was getting very happy, and my heart almost stopped when I saw my boy Penn. It didn’t meet nearly the same harsh fate as some others, and isn’t as difficult to come by as others like Motorcity, but Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero was and is one of my favourite if not my true favourite cartoon. I hope to see more coverage of everything that Disney did dirty this way, and this video is such a great place to start. Absolutely amazing job, and keep up the spectacular work!
As a quick edit, since UA-cam apparently won’t let me do that anymore, but I digress, regarding the hope for this series to get a second season, I have hope too. You mentioned that crazier comebacks have been made, and my favourite that I mentioned before, Penn Zero, is exactly one of those cases. I don’t know the specifics of any plans or production behind the scenes, so I can’t really have a specific timeline to judge from, but there was a good few years between its seasons. It of course wasn’t highly advertised but it also didn’t come out in complete silence. It was a pretty early time slot in the day, but for a summer month, I was surprised that it was so decent. There’s other examples, but I wanted to share the one I knew that’s so near and dear to me. I will absolutely go and watch 101 Dalmatian Street now, and I hope the best for the future of this series.
I found this on accident while scrolling around UA-cam and thought the artstyle was so cute I had to watch it! Its such a pretty show how are 20 indistinct puppy plushies not marketable??? Give!
Exactly! I mean back in the day they LITERALLY had 101 different dalmatians in their kids meals at McDonalds back in the 90's. Those things sold millions of kids meals as people tried to collect them all and even now a full collection of them is worth quite a bundle. With just 20 dogs they could have easily done the same thing and been a lot easier to collect them all, and I know people would have wanted the whole set *cough* like me *cough* and that is just one example. I would totally have bought clothing, school supplies, mini figures, plushies, etc of these guys if they had made them. Is just sad they never gave it a chance.
Recently was informed the series did get good marketing in UK and Europe. Small detail, but I couldn't find solid confirmation anywhere other than IMDb reviews cause there's so little to go off of for official information about advertising lol
Cartoon Brew made a couple articles for 101 Dalmatian Street that are worth reading. One article even broke news of an Art Book on the series.
👍
I live in europe and I remember advertisment for this show, not only on TV but on youtube. The show poped out many times on my main page.
I remember seeing it from Italy
I remember watching it all the time here in Poland. I loved that series!
I find it hilarious that Disney canned this because they thought it wasn't profitable in spite of 101 Dalmatians being one of their more popular brands, especially among young children. It's even more ridiculous Disney is worried about losing money when they already own like 50% of the known market these days.
capitalism means there is no such thing as enough money
@@soapbiter36577 No, the problem is that all the big corporations have to appeal to investors. This is _uniquely_ a late stage capitalism problem. Independent media is in a far healthier state that corporate media these days. The problem is that people will more often lean on big corporations for funding because the alternative is a lot harder. Even having a crowdfunding campaign in the current state of social media can be an uphill battle.
I mean, it did start on the graveyard that is Disney XD.

It sucks when a show fails not because it was bad but because the network just didn’t really give it a chance. If it’s not an instant hit it’s not worth keeping around, and this is isn’t even just with cartoons either.
So true! I hate that mentality nowadays
I did read that the show was unable to get the US attention until season 1 ended, but it was cancelled when it finally came to the US.
Certified Harvey beacks moment
It’s funny that Disney has two cartoon series’s that have a Hunter with a redemption arc
@@zerareota1560And their both blondes + they've both got pretty abusive family member that they help with their schemes
The series got cancelled because the writers and directors were idiots.
It's really a shame that it didn't get picked up for season two. I really love the artistic and musical direction they took.
wish the series give us a season 2 and give us some backstory episodes which season 1 didn't do.
But not to worry, it might be possible that the show can be continued in other forms, like a Comic Book.
I mean, Wilder things have happened, but yeah that's probably it for this.

I'm so glad I'm not the only American fan of 101 Dalmatian Street. I remember when this was announced around the same time as Amphibia and The Owl House. But felt puzzled how Disney has been very silent on the series in the US until after Season 1 finished airing.
It was one of the first DVD I Ever bought
It kills me that this wasn’t as popular as some of the other shows they’ve got. I absolutely loved this series! Great characters, great art style, and great episodes. Even had a great couple of tie-ins to the original 101 movie. I really hope they make a second season.
Also, Dante is best Dalmatian. No room for discussion.

I already am in love with this art style! I love how the Dalmatians are the same yet different and highly stylized!! I love stylized designs and I do it with my art!!
And I do also love the body language the dogs have!! Their poses and facial expressions are so exaggerated and I love it!!❤️
I think so too, even if the big floppy ears are a little distracting from what I saw in the review.

@@raf4320 Well, The Aristocats is very popular in Japan, Italy, and Asia.
More ironic seeing as Disney is American-founded, America-based, and as far the primary company goes, American-run.
It is fuckin' WILD.
but the series takes place in America. but it have noting to do with the original 1961 film which is set in the united kingdom.
TL;DR
Disney is run by businessmen (not really big news) who only see profit and are not passionate about the animation industry in the slightest, which leads to, but not limited to: Crunch, hiring bad writers, little marketing to things they deem non important, lazy products, everlasting sagas of sequels.
true, though the series did borrow elements from both movies and Dodie Smith's novel such as the Dearly surname which was in the novel as well as the live action movie. Also, the names of the puppies came from the novels and movies.
Novel:
Cadpig
Animated movie:
Lucky
Rolly
Patch
Live action movie:
Two-Tone
Dipstick
Wizzer
Jewel (she was mentioned by name in the series but never seen)
Also some more stuff in the series such as Roger being both a musician and video game developer (he was a musician in the original movie and a video game developer in the live action movie), while Anita worked for Cruella (she did so in the live action movie).

Glitch Techs barely got the green light to work on season 3, which is set to come out in August-September.
disney does this a lot 😔
TRON: Uprising is possibly in my eyes the most unique lookin', & distinctive cartoon or i guess animation i've ever seen when when it came out/launched in 2012 10 yrs ago.
i love the 101 movie's ❤
Plus Cruella has a sequel in the works so it clearly has a lot of views on Disney+.
another reason it got cancelled because Covid happened in 2020
@@AH-is5yg Again production finished months before the lockdowns. They got word they won't get another season during that time.
It helps getting that UK vibe perfectly.
i love the blended family aspect as well as an American with a British wife
Fun Fact: (Season 2) Finale of Milo Murphy's Law has a more rating than Finale of Star vs. Force of Evil.
Despite MML started with a Disney XD cartoon, I am great that it was shined. I Wish, Kick Buttowski or Randy Cunningham got a shine too. It's a shame that all channels only care about ratings.
I binged the whole series plus the short movie. 101 Dalmatian Street was such a comfort show for me, and it's killing me to not get any more episodes.
Glenn Close really did a fabulous job as Cruella de Vil.
agreed she was having fun in every scene and she got the core of cruella...........being a gloriously evil c#nt who chews the scenery.
Glenn Close did great as Cruella. She was amazing.
Glenn Close was robbed of an award that year for her performance as Cruella de Vil in that movie
@@sup1602 You forget, Scrooge has standards though.
Thank you for shining some light on this beloved series! It's treatment by Disney was downright deplorable!
Yeah it is a shame that the show had to be cancelled after one season. But this is definitely not the first time I have seen Disney or other networks cancel a show after one season. Regardless, we try to make the best out of the situation and always have a good time. Hopefully, future shows won't get cancelled too soon.

Really? I coulda sworn everytime there's trouble (which are often) he's always present to narate _THEIR IMPENDING DOOM!_
It is weird because I do know that it was ALL over Disney XD like how they kept hyping up that one hotel Transylvania cartoon that nobody remembers.
Except this one looks kind of interesting compared to the hotel Transylvania cartoon!
Might check this out again on Disney+.
The Hotel Transylvania cartoon was honestly wasted potential.
This show's demise is just tragic.
I found out about this show on a commercial that played after the DuckTales series finale and thought it was another show that was going to get cancelled in 2 to 3 seasons and didn't know it existed before

I also remember this one time where Nickelodeon bought this French cartoons called oggy and the cockroaches!
I guess the viewers believed the 101 Dalmatian Street was like the Loud House but with dogs.
yeah ikr, I love this show. It's so sad it ended like that
@Marav Reviews Luan Loud: HA HA HA HA! Get it?!
Btw you're outro was perfect.
I've watched the show before most people were aware of it's existence. And yeah; I 100% agree that Disney emphatically screwed the show over.
Samw. Sounds like another Tangled the Series. But even tangles gained more attention through Varian and Ready as I'll Ever Be😅.
Same
I remember not knowing about this show at all and then someday i saw that one episode where they were freezing but i only saw a small part then i saw the episode where hunter tries to get the triple D's DNA and when i saw those episode i pretty much thought that they just try to bring the Dalmatian franchise back to life after it died so I didn't really bother watching it later when i got Disney+ i just couldn't stop watching it when i found out it was cancelled it just honestly made me wanna cry there are always comfort shows i watch that help me relax and make me happy but i never had one since 101ds i am still re-watching that show even if i saw the episode many times it's just awesome to experience the show over and over and over again it makes me happy but also sad when i remember how Disney just screwed it over
I had a 101 Dalmatian related binge trip last month, including 101 Dalmatian Street on Disney Plus this last month.
Fun Fact: This show premiered on the American Disney XD channel the week after Ducktales 2017's final and took up it's same Monday 7pm est time slot.
You have no idea how happy I am you're talking about this show. I've loved it for a while and wished it had more attention.
i was big into the ducktales 2017 fandom when the show was around & as a result i saw a LOT of 101 dalmatian street - it never crossed my mind that i never even saw ads for it, i was so used to the people around me posting about it! it’s a real shame that the show was canned, i LOVED the art and i had heard it was pretty decent. i definitely want to watch it someday!
I hope to see an episode where it addresses how Doug and Delilah met( because the Dalmatian family in this series are a blended family)
I've only seen a few clips of the show. But it seems to be made for a more younger audience than like say Owl House, Duck Tale Reboot or Gravity Falls. So that might be one of the reason that it isn't as popular as those shows, in addition to it being screwed over by Disney of course.
that is true sadly. Amphibia, Owl House, Duck Tale Reboot, Gravity Falls, and Ladybug were more popular and got more seasons.
@@AH-is5yg and those shows don't even appeal to me, I loved 101 Dalmatian street.
Not just to see examples I like, but ones I possibly wish I could've seen and continued on.
earlier this year my siblings became obsessed with this show after finding it on Disney plus and binge watched it all and I watched some and found it really good
i was so sad this show didn't get more love, seeing this video makes me so happyyy!!!!! i love this series so much
I never knew this show existed, nor would I have probably watching it knowing that, but the art style is adorable. I love the uniqueness with the pups even down to the ears, and its just really cool seeing a disabled character portrayed (although I totally will be checking it out after this review)
Edit: Finished watching the series as I loved it so much, I with more was done with Hunter but if the show ever gets a 2nd season I hope they do more with him.
I hope this boost the popularity of the show
I love this show. I’m so glad someone talks about it, to. Deserves every watch !
It’s good to see people giving this show more attention!
That’s a nice profile ya got there
I only heard of this show because last year I got Disney XD for free for a month and I accidentally stumbled onto this show while channel surfing.
Well, I never would've expected this, I applaud your secrecy leading up to this even with the teasers.
I remember watching some episodes on Disney XD. I remember it was often advertised, and I got surprised when I learned it wasn’t as popular as I thought
Tbh Hunter De Vil (I love his name lmao) was honestly one of my favorite characters. Idk why, but he just is. Maybe it’s the way he kinda stepped down towards his great aunt and didn’t want to catch the puppies anymore.
even tho it was faked i really likes his Interaction with Dylan at the start of the episode
@@miserirken Companies need to stop milking old properties. Spongebob has been squeezed dry, Disney is so scared of making new properties that aren't from Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios, and WarnerMedia has made Fanstastic Beasts not actually about, oh I don't know, FANTASTIC BEASTS as so much a Dumbledore-Grindelwald origin series. Cartoon networks crimes are of making tax write off I belive, having a good show but a extremely shitty fandom with it and then having a good movie then having a shittty spin off to finish the series, and using a semi shitty show made for babies but at least we got semi good memes and "special art"
Disney's crimes are scared shitless to make new properties, and perhaps being a lil homophobic but they probably not really homophobic at all and it's just that their audience have a bunch of mid age white women Karen's
Nickelodeon's crimes are having really REALLY shit directors and writers, squeezing the every last penny of two shows, one show where the creator has passed and instead of doing the honorable thing and put the show to rest they keep squeezing it, and are probably actually homophobic (the whole situation with jojo siwa, I mean for fuck sakes they even nominated her for a reward)
Illunations crimes are creating those piss colored tater tots
Wandermedia's crimes are not fucking following with the books
And Sony's crimes are creating 4 shitty movies
I've never seen or heard of that.
I discovered this series on Disney+ last year and I really recommend it.
Dude. That show was terrible in every way possible. Reply to me if you want to hear my reasons why.
I can't thank you enough for making this video. This show was so fun and got done so dirty. 😭😭😭
Can we talk about how Hunter was trapped in a crate for months and acts like a dog half of the time 😭
Honestly, I feel guilty for not giving this show a chance back when it was on the air, as I probably would have liked it
A pet peeve of mine about pieces of media that have main casts in the hundreds is that some will inevitably end up as background characters if they appear at all. A great example is the film Split. The characters repeatedly claim that the antagonist has 24 different personalities, but only 8 of them get real screen time. It's very much a nitpick, but either commit to the gimmick of a huge cast or cut it all back to what the script can facilitate.
True. But I think this show did a good job with it. And I think it could do even more if given the opportunity.
Honestly I feel like this is the best Disney series based movie they’ve ever done.
The art style, the huge cast of characters with the smaller focus on a main few of them, this is giving me big Friendship is Magic vibes.
I was in 101 Dalmatian street fandom in 2019 and I just realized how literally few people knew this cartoon
there was a Lot of good animated shows that Disney had.
I remember this series! I remember trying to find it again but I never did. Glad more people are talking about.
Well that should stop

Id honestly really love the series where you’d cover all the shows that got wrongly shafted and sent over to air on their sister channels
