If roger plays like this against rafa or djockovic! He feels uncomfortable while playing against Novak, that is why he loses! More freedom in the shots, and Novak is not able to compete against Federer,s shots
Considering the way Roger practices here and looks so impressive its really amazing how Rafa has been so dominant against him in this event because Roger sure does hit that ball hard. I always rated Roger good on clay, even Rafa says Roger is a big threat to him on clay, looking at this practice session I can see why he says that.
I wish Federer played like this in actual matches, he would be so difficult to beat. Even though his backhand suffers against Rafa, he rarely hits that shot freely down the line as he does here. It is difficult to do but he did that in 2006 consistently. If he would have played the 2017 style throughout his career, he would have had many more victories against Rafa. The moment he is involved in a close point, he usually becomes tentative and tries to play safe or he rushes to the net. If he could just play a point at its merit (easier said than done), no one can beat him. For Nadal and Djokovic, pressure makes them play safer tennis, measured tennis. For Federer, it should be the opposite where he could be more natural. That's why 2006 and 2017 are his best years because he removed the pressure element from his game.
