A review of the Master Grade Gelgoog Ver 2.0 piloted by the Red Comet Char Aznable from the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series.

Yo~ finally taking a look at that Gelgoog. Really interesting kit. Definitely the best bulky Master Grade I've seen in a very long time.
I want to make another video before the end of the month. The P-Bandai exclusive RG RX-78-3. It’s going to be a ‘casual’ review in the same vein as the RE/100 Vigna Ghina, so should be a quick turn-around. Already shot all the footage. Just need to finish writing the script, record audio, and edit it. Shouts out to my boy Kai for being patient with me lol
-- Production notes for future me to laugh at -
- Shouts out to the 278 people that saw the original version of this review lol. Basically, I wasn't super happy with the first version, mainly because it had a whiny, negative tone. I had a bad feeling about it, but uploaded it anyway because I was ready to move on. It was up for about an hour and it got 5 comments. 2 were about my negative tone, and 1 was about how I had the shoulder fins backwards (see below for that fiasco lol). So I took the video down and decided to make some changes. After a few attempts to fix these issues, I just decided 'forget it' and just re-recorded ALL of the audio with quite a few tweaks to the script. Then I re-edited the review to fit the new audio. I'm much happier with how it turned out.
- First off, about the backwards shoulder fins. I built this kit with them facing the wrong way, creating a large gap in the shoulder. That's how ALL my footage was. I then had a section in the review where I pointed out the gap, not knowing it was made wider by mistake. However a helpful subscriber commented on it, which was the main reason I took the original version down. I got some new footage with the shoulder fins in the correct alignment, but it's still there, just a bit more concealed. I was going to still criticize it however the other 90% of this footage still had them backwards. This inconsistency was just becoming way too much of a hassle, so I just scrapped the whole shoulder gap complaint entirely.
- I'm not sure I nailed the music level on this. The first version had the music way to quiet, so I beefed it up in this one, but I think I over did it. I really need to find the right levels and make note of them for consistency.
- I can't think of a good title for this. Part of why the Turn A did so well was that title. I wanted something similar, but just couldn't nail anything down. "Really that Gel-good?" lol
- Capturing footage was also pretty straight forward. Nothing got in the way. I do think I was more consistent with the lighting compared to the Turn A review though, which is fantastic. The color for the stills is slightly off though. Might have to do with how I decreased the contrast when converting from RAW. Need to figure out if I can offset that with a bump in saturation or something.
- I kind of threw out the shot-list halfway through making the video. I think I’m about at the point where I don’t need to rely on one as much. Maybe have one for specific still images, but probably don’t need to make one for basic B-roll.
- Editing was interesting. I timed myself and broke down each section by editing time, here’s the results:
- Intro - 28 minutes
- Build - 1 hour 18 minutes
- Appearance - 58 minutes
- Articulation - 20 minutes
- Gimmicks - 30 minutes
- Outro - 6 minutes
- Effects and panning of stills - 2 hours 54 minutes
- Text - 1 hour 58 minutes
- Final touch ups - 1 hour
- Total time spent editing - about 9 hours and 30 minutes
- However, this was thrown out the window when I redid everything. I'd say that stacked on another 4 hours of editing.
- For some reason the video is very compressed here on UA-cam. Its really weird. Just checked the original file and it's still pretty bad, just not as pronounced. Hmm... It's only in the still images (most visible on extreme closes up of the dark red pieces throughout the build section) so it could be the video color filter compounding with the adjustments from conversion from RAW. I'll test later.
No more, please~, I can't stand to look at this kit anymore lol
But anyway, here's some music I've been enjoying. I doubt anyone gets this far in the description, so this stuff is kinda just for me to look back on in a year and remember "oh yeah, that's what I was into at that point." Anyway, on a Eurobeat kick right now. It all sounds the same, and I love that lol:
• King & Queen Seventies
• Help Me by Nuage
• David Dima - Crazy
And of course, 脇田もなり of Especia started a solo career, and it's amazing:
• 脇田もなり - peppermint rai... - Навчання та стиль
Thanks for watching!

What's the highest score you've given a Master Grade kit so far? I think Alex 1.0 was the lowest.
12:38 Too bad we can't get a newer Elmeth, except for that expensive cushion.
This was the most expensive 1/100 model car I've ever bought.
It's apparently a Toyota
Who here wants a ground gundam 2.0
Yes because that means a potential mg blue destiny
If that happens we’ll need a MG Slave Wraith.
If that happens we need the ez8 as well
I just want any 08th ms team 2.0 mgs
Bandai could make like 10 variants with a new frame but no, we get a new unicorn. Guess that unicorn money will go into the mg ground gundam 2.0
I absolutely love the Gelgoog. It took me a while to appreciate it, but when it finally hit, I couldn’t resist. I’m ecstatic about the panel lines and detail, just thick enough to survive a coat of paint and primer. When I finally get to it, I’m going to paint it in the Unicorn era green colors. Awesome review.
Yeeaaaah ! I was waiting for this one !
Edit: thicc zaku lol
It’s always good to see another of your videos
Your reviews are super calming
you make such in depth and well thought out reviews. your editing, especially the overlaid detail shots of the kit also help visualize what you say, instead of the constant rambling + fiddling most people do. a lot of what you do i dont really find in the bigger gunpla review channels. really great work!
you deserve a lot of Subs men your review is solid not so long and pretty on point!
I'd love to see the Acguy
Great review as always.thanks... can't wait for more videos from you.
Might actually pick this one up. The Gelgoog is my favorite OYW era Zeon mobile suit, and I love that this kit has a healthy amount of surface detail. I'm quite the opposite when it comes to detail, as I prefer a more realistic appearence. Never been a fan of 100% anime accuracy since they never feel like the "real robot" aesthetic to me. That's just my personal preference though. Love your reviews and I hope to see more of the casual Real Grade reviews too!
Me too..I might buy This Gelgoog Char Custom even though I already have the MG 2.0 Ms-14A Gelgoog
Oh man, thanks for these reviews. I can decide on what old MGs to get!
Great video, as always ^^
These 2.0 kits always look so good!
Thank you!
Except the zeta 2.0
After I finished my first MG Gundam Dynames model kit. I wanted an Enemy Zeon mobile suit. This Particular Gelgoog 2.0 was an automatic purchase. I love the design and thought. I will enjoy working on it as soon as I wake up the following day off I have from work. Great video by the way and I subbed to this channel. :)
Alright, thanks Redheadphones, you did it again, I finally nabbed this along with Char's Zaku II 2.0. I'm really looking forward to my yellow car figure.
hope they make a Gelgoog Jager into a mastergrade one day... always found that design better
I love the sleekness of that design, it’s my favorite Gelgoog.
Love your reviews!
Thanks!
I sub'd because of your MG playlist. Awesome and Thanks.
Awesome review. Always wanted this kit. I hope Bandai makes mg2.0 of the Dom as well.
You made us wait long time for this! Worth it tho...
Great review! I want this kit, as I'm curious about setting up a "drawing shield and saber" pose.
If you worry about panel lines taking away from the anime look, grey liner is perfect. Also grey looks just like pencil and though the pencil rubs off much easier, you can find the look that appeals by easily removing pencil, or adding more. Mechanical pencil is totally legit for low contrast lining.
that inner frame is amazing makes me wanna paint it up and put it in a workshop set
I just wanted to note that when I built this Gelgoog, mine is posed on my shelf with the shield on the arm. No droopage yet after a couple of months of holding that pose. I just tilted the arm slighly inwards to cover the body, and it seems to not put all the weight on one side, so the polycap in the waist doesn't sink or droop at all. Maybe it'll 'degrade' in a year, so the urban legend goes, polycaps supposedly 'degrade' over time, which I have yet to see. But for now, seems super solid. I'm actually amazed that it holds the shield so well considering the baloney reputation 2.0 hands have for not being able to hold weapons. It holds this giant shield with just the 2.0 hands a lot better than my Ver Ka Nu Gundam holds its own beam rifle, and it doesn't flop around or wobble at all. My 1YW "Zeon" MG shelf is now satisfying, with a 2.0 Char Zaku II, 2.0 Gouf, 2.0 Gelgoog, and 1.5 Rick Dom...I think I like it more than my Gundam shelf.
Beware if sanding the surfaces with a flat glass file, as the subtle concave curves on the forearm especially may throw you off. Try a different method of nub removal in those areas so you don't ruin it like I did....
Great video as always my man! Aside from the standard Gelgoog, what's your favorite variation of the design?
First love your vids man keep it up
I love the gelgoog design and this 2.0 MG makes it look like it jumped out of the screen but im not a fan of all those useless tick marks but I can see some people loving them
Thanks for the review man! now I need one of these while in quarantine. lel
I think the reason behind why the panel lines are so overwhelming is because you have used a black paint for them, if you use something like grey the result should be less so. Good luck with your painting.
Another Great Video !!!
Thanks!
I use the Metallic Red marker for all my mono eyes. It comes up looking more pink but it catches and reflects light giving it a really cool effect.
Mmmm crosses fingers for a cannon or sniper type release!
I love how this kit looks but I really want an RG version. I wanna get all of the main MS used by Amuro and Char in the same scale so I can pose/line them all together! I *could* go all 1/100 but I don't think I could afford the MG Sazabi and Nu.
Thank you for this review. I enjoyed it. Subscribed!
I think you were right to re-record the video. Positivity is so important! I feel like people go to their hobbies to relax and escape a bit. That was probably a good move. Remember, life is beautiful! There is so much to be grateful for if we take a step back sometimes. Looking forward to the next review!
Have you ever thought of checking out the MG Gundam Dynames? I don't know how into 00 you are, but it really is an amazing kit.
I do my mono-eyes with a quick spray of Tamiya TS-36 Flourescent Red.
Got the high grade of this recently, and then I saw that you reviewed this lol, and one problem with 2.0 zeon kits is that the hands took the modern turn making the fingers or hands not the same with the body color
Welcome bacc dude ;^)) great review as always uwu
Tbh, I like grey hands. If it was in pink hands, the inner frame would look very silly. You're going to have to paint the whole inner frame pink to match the anime which had the joints pink too. Also, every other modern kit has grey hands. its more of a nitpick then a problem
@@abrokenemmo9254 Yeah I think I'm just one if the peers that love anime accuracy, so ye it's just a nitpick now that I notice it ✌️✌️
I just built a Zaku 2.0 and I want to get this kit!!
Hi,I saw your video. Last week I bought it.
2 fingers on the trigger is a tip of the head for the old 1/60 Gelgoog kit lol very nice bandai
A 1/100 Lalah?! I’m sold
Yo red, the HGUC Char's Zaku will be made on July, gonna pick it up??
I would say, this boy thicc zaku, + it's a 2.0 so it's has the best proprtions!
I love it!
Lol I missed the first video and was sad you took it down. But now I can watch now!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!
Thanks! You didn't miss much btw, that version had quite a few flaws and inconsistencies lol. All fixed in this version!
RedHeadphones6 has wondered why you took it down shortly after I watched it
But glad to see it back up
ThIcK bOi!!!
4:49 agree with that. Check the freedom gundam 2.0, It's just MB 2.0 rather than a MG 2.0 which is not anime accurate. Thanks for the review, amazing video.
it still cannot kneel on one knee. I still love it though.
Please consider the Qubeley or the Gp02 as your next review!!!
Definitely do agree about the overuse of panel lines
I mean I like panel lines, but the gelgoog here just seems to have way too many of them, and it definitely doesn't fit a 2.0 kit to have this much external detail
Ever considered doing the MG GM Sniper Custom?
I'd love to get a 2.0 of Anavel Gato's Gelgoog the next time I have 150 bucks to drop on a kit lol
Now I want Bandai to make Kampfer 2.0
Which pink Gundam Marker did you use?
Good to see you fixed the shoulders.
Yeah, man. Thanks for that catch, and so quickly too. It saved me a lot of headache down the line. Gave me the opportunity to fix a lot of smaller editing stuff too.
RedHeadphones6 I just finished mine like a week ago, so don’t worry about it. I’ve done worse like forgetting the knee poly cap that holds the weight on the Nu ver Ka.
it's a shame you don't get more views.
panel lines top
Still waiting for the Kämpfer 2.0 ._.
I’m glad you put in the description why you reuploaded cus I was legit wondering lol. I didn’t have a problem with the original though 🤷♂️
have you ever done something like filling panel lines with putty to eliminate them before painting?
Yep, quite a few times. It's pretty straight-forward, if a little time consuming, to get the putty truly flush with the rest of the piece and ready for painting. It's totally worth it in some cases though, especially on something like this Gelgoog.
It cool
They caught up to the Federal forces with this model. If the war had drug on Zeon would have been back on top.
They did not have the resources to continue! No more gelgoogs would have been able to have been made!
Even though it's not the most anime accurate as good as this kit is, I would love to see char's suits get the origin treatment like the rx 78 did.
Florescent pink paint is fun for mono eyes too, especially under a black light :p
Also do you not top coat your kits? It would help keep your panel lines from fading and hiding the edges on your dry transfers.
I always thought it's head unit looks like a piggy... That's the only reason why I don't love this MS lol
Will you buy the Barbatos MG? That thing looks amazing and the mechanical detail looks right up your alley
Honestly, all those panel lines and especially the little notches look like the MS is infested by ants.
I'd try a brown panel liner for more warmer colors like yellow and red.
Still surprised with all the 2.0, we've never gotten any kind of MG Dom update or any of its variants as an entirely new kit.
Yeah, that is a little weird. I always held out on buying the MG Dom's because I figured they were next in line. Supposedly they hold up pretty well though.
After all the waiting Bandai only released a 1.5 for the Dom.
@RedHeadphones6 I bought one FIFTEEN YEARS ago, it was a good kit then but I'm shocked they've only came out with a 1.5 upgrade. They love that mold I guess.
I never felt the Gelgoog. Looks very basic compared to the Zaku 2 and awesome Gouf custom.
It needs some serious artwork in painting imho. But still. Its Gunpla...there is no bad kit imo.
We need a gelgoog revive so badly the mg is so expensive
The revive is probably gonna be p bandai and a half-assed one at worst. Remember how bandai made the "revive" of the rick dias?
was very lucky to score a super cheap one here in aus, super excited to build it :3333333333333
Have you ever considered reviewing one of the Seed MGs?
After seeing this, I might have to get a HM Gelgoog/ Gelgoog Cannon. My only problem with this kit is the lack of a backpack, but that’s the cost of anime accuracy.
How to overcome the loosing joints?
My zaku 2.0 just loose some joints lately
If you take the joint apart and put some paint or top coat over the ball/peg, and plug it back in after it dried, that should stiffen the joint.
@@verdammdeaggsd7736 already doing it, my pc just shatter
But u dont show the main pilots and cockpit, anyway its a good review, i really like that u show the inner frame, or at least part of it, not all reviewers do it, and its something very important for me, so, keep that gr8 work!
Panel lines on gundam are a good thing i reckon more the beta
I almost feel you should add size comparisons, like what you did with the RX-78-2, but with smaller, and bigger suits as well
The bulk of the legs actually bothers me - It's a Gelgoog, not a Dom...
Though the biggest issue IMO is those seam lines on the legs. They are "seam lines as panel lines" but they're too wide and deep and inconsistent compared to the other panel lines on the kit, so the look of these part seams is totally different from the look of the recessed panel lines.
didn't I already watch this?
There was a previous version that was up for an hour, but some helpful subscribers pointed out a few flaws and inconsistencies, so I quickly took it down, re-record all the audio, tweaked the script, and re-edited it. Much happier with this version.
@@redheadphones6 now that's some high-level integrity
How could Gundam won against this nozaku MS, thick as a brick, red as a brick too
GP02A's shield is bigger, as is the Sazabi's... and the Nightingale's shield is just insane... so the Gelgoog's is probably fourth...
Dom 2.0 needed
Why don't you like panel lines, extra detail is better
I wouldn't say I don't like panel lines, I just prefer things to look how they look in the anime. The anime appearance is how I'm introduced to all these suits so that's the ideal version for me personally. The Turn A for example is littered with panel lines and looks great. It had a ton of panel lines in the anime, so in model kit form it works fantastically. I can also get behind some minor additions just to spice things up, like the leg panel lines with the Re-GZ and Vigna-Ghina, and those minor tick marks on the Mk-II ver 2.0 and Zaku 2.0. It's when an entire surface is full of random lines and circles like this Gelgoog's legs that it starts to muddy up the design.
In my mind, simple and bold is much preferred to random details for the sake of details.Too much random detail and we just end up with those live action Transformers, ya know lol.
@@redheadphones6 personally, I think that anime accuracy is really unreliable, since suits gain and lose detail depending on the distance of the shot...plus I think that, since mobile suits are supposed to be "real robots", they should have quite a lot of panels...I have some model tanks and jets in 1/100 scale and they don't have one smooth surface
A lot of these suits in general aren't very reliable lol. They're fictional giant anime robots, so there's always some leeway, like those example kits I listed above. It's really to each they're own and these designs change over the years. In general though, watching the original 1979 anime you won't see many random lines on the legs outside of 1 or 2 hyper detailed static shots, so that's my preference. A good example of what I'm talking about would be the Robot Damashii ver A.N.I.M.E line. Look up some of those figures, they really nail what I'm talking about when I refer to 'anime accuracy.' www.1999.co.jp/eng/10522569 Here's the recent Gelgoog release. I'd love to kit a like this in the future.
@@redheadphones6 well of course they're fictional, but still meant to be real, man made machines in universe 😅 my perfect kit would be Katoki style and proportions with 90s 1/100 Wing and X kits level of detail
The MP version look better change my mind
I don't like the kit, but great review.
