    "This is on me, I'll take care of it." He says, after dragging half of Prodromos and the whole Tempest crew to clean up his mess.

    I hate how the game forces you play this mission like a joke. You can TRY to play it straight like you're sick of Liam's vilage idiocy but then it will force it back into that happy go lucky "this is fun, were' friends, you didn't totally fuck this up" mentality. No, just like in Breaking Bad: "He can't keep getting away wth it!"

      This is just pure conjecture, but I think it might be for a reason. I remember pre-release, Bioware had a demonstration of Andromeda using this mission at PAX East, and one thing I noticed about Liam's mission is that everybody kind of looks and seems notably more expressive and 'dynamic' than they do in other parts of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if they did this part of the game earlier and it got more attention as a result, and it's not unusual for developers to touch up parts of a game that are shown in pre-release sections of big events.
      In the gameplay demo with developer commentary, they were really trying to sell certain elements of Andromeda perhaps more than what was really there, so I wouldn't be surprised if the development focus made this section of the game seem almost theatrical with the way it plays out and tries to be goofy. That makes even more sense because they were basically using this part to demonstrate their game to a large amount of people, so they probably figured they needed it to be entertaining.

    I really like how Liam's character elicits such a strong response from the players. You either like him, or freakin hate his stupid ass. Peebee gets the same reaction since both of them are such strong willed characters. I love getting mad at Liam, that interrupt was really satisfying.

      Except Peebee actually balances out her immature stuff by doing some really useful things too. Without her help, Eos’ vault would never have been activated and there’d be no Pod-Romos. And the Remnant VI attack drone she makes for you is very helpful in combat. All Liam does is complain that it isn’t all Kumbaya then goes off and does stupid stuff. And in combat, his grenades are just as likely to kill you as enemy fire.

      @@brainconqueror8095 And while Peebee takes unnecessary risks, she doesn't make a habit of risking others, while Liam's inpatience almost completely screwed over the entire Initiative.

    I can only imagine what the consequences would be for Liam on a proper military vessel: courts martial and dishonorable discharge with a strong possibility of jail time. Everything about how and why this mission went down goes way beyond acceptable tolerances for violations regarding regulations, ops sec, planning, and necessary improvisation.

    • @brainconqueror8095
      @brainconqueror8095 6 років тому +5

      AFLoneWolf problem here is that exiling him is the only possible punishment, since him sitting in a cell means he eats and sleeps for free while contributing nothing. And exile means he ends up on Kadara where he can do more stupid crap.

      I've seen people get court martialed (or Article 15's) for far less. That shit that Liam pulled would've ended with him in confinement in any proper military, and that's just for giving away sensitive information alone.
      The thing that bothers me most is that Ryder lets Liam get the last word, because he sure as hell doesn't deserve it. Even at the end, he barely understands the ramifications of his actions, and that in my opinion makes him more of a liability than an asset. I can see why he couldn't make it as a cop.

      Agreed. I feel like there were too few moments in the story where Ryder actually gets *these* choices. As the pathfinder Ryder should have been given more options to put their foot down against people from the nexus, kadara and the angara since they *need* to establish a foothold for the initiative. Ryder does grow into the role of pathfinder but I feel like there are moments where characters are too dismissive of their authority.

    I told verand to stick around and yelled at him. I also agreed he was right about the necessity of reaching out but the way in which he did it was so batshit insane.... I was legitimately worried about him pulling the same stupid shit down the line and I wanted him to remember that there were consequences.

  • @DLRX

    Wow, really is the exact opposite of the funny and playful banter they have if you tell Liam he did good. I'm always kind of on the fence about Liam as a character in general but I have to ask, if we get a sequel where the stakes are raised, should killing him off be considered? I only ask based on the majority not liking him.

    • @brainconqueror8095
      @brainconqueror8095 6 років тому +5

      No, they might bust him down to Conrad Verner status - a moronic NPC whose messes you need to clean up. Yell at him too much and he “dies a hilarious death” but be soft on him and you get a minor insignificant benefit.

    im glad there are options to give him a dressing-down, but liam's right. he fucked up ENORMOUSLY and risked the lives of so many people and the entire initiative, but it may as well have been a risk they needed to take. like he said, now the angarans know that you'll be there to save them just like you'd be there for anyone from the milky way. that's a huge step for inter-species relations and if the average angaran didn't trust the milky way people before (because they have every reason to not trust us), they're much closer to it now. and if we're trying to make a home here, we gotta prove we're ready to help the ones who were here first. i wish there was a way to explain our reasons to verand while we ask her (nicely!) to stay in one place while we do damage control, rather than sneak around and secretly treat her like a prisoner. i think she'd understand, especially since we just saved her. we could've just left her behind and the problem with the codes would've been buried with her, but we went out of our way to rescue her and some other people. telling liam he fucked up but understanding that that fuck-up might have worked out is a good way to go about this. like somewhere between yelling at him and letting him off the hook completely.

    • @brainconqueror8095

      Nobbie one little problem with that - Verand would never have been in danger in the first place, if Liam hadn’t given her classified information. Also, Verand wasn’t a risk they really needed to take, as there are other Initiative people on Aya working normal channels to solve all the problems Liam wants to solve. As for building goodwill, you accomplish a lot of that by fixing Havarl’s vault and even convince a Roekarr guy to defect. I think Liam’s problem is that he feels a bit useless (Cora is the Pathfinder’s bodyguard, Vetra is the scrounger, Peebee is the Remnant expert, Jaal and Drack are the Kett killers) so he tries to “solve” things and actually makes the situation worse. And then complains because people don’t praise him for having such good intentions.

    • @afgusti4269
      @afgusti4269 2 роки тому +8

      This was not a necessary risk. A necessary risk was Ryder going out alone an unarmed when first arriving on Aya.
      Liam is a menace. Sure he is well intentioned but he is a dangerous idiot. The first mistake he does is trying to steal info from the angara on one of his first missions. Then this? He put in risk every living person in the initiative.
      Relationships between people take time to build. Trust is not earned by bombarding other nations with favors.
      He isn't capable of recognizing complexities or understanding that some thing are slow for a reason. There is a reason the angsran don't trust the initiative and they are right to do so. The stunts he pulled out that in jeopardy. He should be in a team as important as the oathfinder's
