So many great UK R&B artists came and went in the '90s... they got dropped/lost their contracts when the big record labels started merging... most of them should have become House singers, R&B over House beats sounds fantastic!
@@Tropicalistico Dina Carroll, Lisa Stansfield, Juliet Roberts, Beverly Knight, Mica Paris. There's more including male singers but I can't remember them anymore. Take a look at the artists managed by First Avenue and signed to UK labels of Universal, MCA, Island Records, Polydor and Mercury Records.
Hinda was in a situation were the label didn't know what to do with her, there was talk of jumping her to Europe but that was pulled. When the songs didn't hit they just let her go. Rihanna Kenny from the Uk was another, she got moved aside because of Rihanna from America who had the full marketing machine behind her, calls were made to halt Rihanna Kenny's promotion. The group Big Brovaz were big in the 90's. If you knew what their recording contract was, you'd fall off your chair in disbelief. Let's put it this way, i'd call it a happy meal contract. I was around the industry in the 90's. The labels didn't start merging until 2002 onwards. Firstly, A&R men were losing their jobs to a different type of A&R man. If you look closely at the industry now, it's very dark & that was the A&R shift the beginning. Nothing is the same anymore, the happy fun vibes are completely gone. My last dealings with the industry were in 2011, & that was me done. The dark changes I had no interest in whatsoever. Also, the best people in the industry have left now.
@@afflulifestyle1784 It was disgusting how Big Brovaz was treated. Jonathan Shalit had an absolute hold over them, I wondered why they were dressing like clowns in their music videos despite singing gangster-ish lyrics. They were pushed as a pop group instead of rappers which caused them to split. Hinda Hicks suffered like many UK R&B artists because the executives weren't willing truly promote UK Black and Asian artists. They were fully behind White artists in Rock, Pop, Dance & R&B and were happy to promote the Black American artists, though. Hmm? And if you really did work in the UK industry, please tell me WTF happened to Dina Carroll and Lisa Stansfield? Two of Britain's greatest solo female voices of the 90s, abandoned by major record labels? Dina has almost vanished, except for PAs. She's never done any interviews or big concerts since. Was she blacklisted? Did she refuse to sleep with someone? And you're right about A&Rs and Executives today, they're looking for disposable artists and radio "bops". Anyone with real talent like adult contemporary singers of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston talent would be better seeking independent funding and managing their own career.
Jeeezus KRIST. Never thought I'd hear this again. I had a BIG crush on this chick back in secondary school days lol. AH, my childhood.... The 90s>>>>>>>>>
whatever happened to hinda hix. one of them 90's artists who became forgotten about. let's face it if you listen to heart radio in the UK who play 90's there is no surprises really and tracks like this have long been fforgotten ust remembered by a select few.
adam firth she was sadly dropped in 2000 and her second album got shelved she came back in 2004 with a album and single but flopped and got dropped again, she tried to come back in 2010 with a album 'journey's but didn't get released.
