When I was a kid we'd drive from Wisconsin to Indiana at night several times a year to visit our grandparents. Dad would tune in to CBS Radio Mystery Theatre and we'd listen to it in the dark car, enthralled by the stories with just the light of the headlights and dashboard. Treasured memories from childhood!
Yes! We would travel from California to Utah in our station wagon several times a year to visit relatives. We loved listening in the dark to CBSRMT. Such a great memory. When we were older we would tape them on a tape recorder to listen to whenever we wanted.
It is wonderful novel for me.I liked it so much..I listened to it many times...Victor Hugo is one of the best writers in the world. Thanks for this drama..
Thank you very much for posting this. I taped this five part episodes ( among MANY others of this series) as a kid. I must have done three or four book reports or term papers on this story during my school career. Always impressed my teachers that I knew Hugo’s work at a tender age. This of course was years before the film and musical adaptations.
..and to think.. I, for the life of me... just couldn't see why my fellow schoolmates of the 50's RANTED and RAVED over this book, "lès MISÈRABLÈS", to my detriment. I definitely made up by watching, reading AND listening to it.
Truly... Jèàn val JÈÀN shoulda been declared a "SAINT"... (albeit a FRENCH one)...!!! (by the bye)... he sounds on many an occasion an inimittable Liam Neeson...!!!

As a kid, I listened to this as I went to sleep when it was originally. Awesome.
Im 51 and I listen to this before bed. Incredible story.
Me too. Listened on a crystal radio back then . Hated the commercials though, this is AWESOME now
I'm 56. We listened to this on the way home from church on Saturday nights, on WNAX, yankton SD.
I'm a Texan who went to NYC just to see this production not long after 9/11. I'm really enjoying using my imagination listening to the story.

I don't think your teachers read les miserables lol because this is absolutely nothing like the book.
Oh I remember this on the RMT. So nice to hear it again. ❤
One of my favorite stories, this is the next best thing to the movie with Liam Neeson.
Why did this have to end, it was truly fantastic!! Thank you cbsrmt
Thanks for posting this
I finally understand this time. Better and a story❤
Hilarious how the narrator said they were telling Hugo's Les Miserables. That wasnt from Hugo lol.
Thanks for posting, it was interesting.
Bonsoir from Portland Oregon.
The prosecutor sounds like a sinister German scientist.
I wonder: were there ever any other multi-part episodes? I never heard of them if there were!
Yeah they've done Cleopatra and another which I forget sadly
He carried a man with an open gunshot wound through an open SEWER?!?!? Marius was lucky to SURVIVE!!!

Can't say when, but stationed in Germany in the 80's without a TV I recorded a lot of AFN radio. This was the best.
