Thanks. I came of here after watching HIP who made a video after watching this from you. Didn't quite understand how I could bid this to my hotas when I have my buttons bid to my switch/button. But when you explain that when the menu is up, it over rides what i have set, so this makes sense to use now. Thanks for putting this out. I will be watching your stuff now.
I am using the WinWing F-16 HOTAS and the IFF switch is perfect for this. In the actual F-16, it's a 4-way switch, but WinWing also gave it a push button function. I've been using the push function of it to bring up the comms menu forever, but this adds to it! Now the IFF 4-way switch still does its intended functions (UHF xmit, VHF xmit, IFF in, IFF out) but when in the comms menu it becomes up/down/select/back.
Thank you, after 5+ years of DCS I never new this capability was there! So useful! I’ll share this video on the Discord forums I follow for the rest of the community
Jeeesus! I built an arduino based virtual keyboard button box just to get my radio buttons behing my hotas. ED really wants to start putting this stuff in the manual. Well thanks go to you Sir!
My god you know how many times iv "abort take off" because i tried to use F2 view when that menu was open. Now I have all menu functions set to arrow keys only. No Function keys needed. Thank you for bringing this up.
@TechGaming45 I'm not exactly sure, but after one patch I noticed that the top item in the menu was always yellow. It took me a while to figure out what it was for.
This is not new to me, and I'm surprised everyone is surprised. Everything else in the controls can be keybinded. Why would people think this method isn't 🤦🏾 The yellow text is kind of obvious though. Certain missions don't allow you to select everything. So it becomes obvious that it's a default function I haven't played DCS for over a year & I knew this. People have really never took their time in the keybind section.. 🙄
I nominate this for "Most Useful" DCS video of 2025. Been playing this sim for over a decade and missed this one, somehow. Thanks.
That's Oscar potential ;-)
More like video of century.
It's a new-ish feature, has only been in-game for a year or so.
Actually did not know what this function was for but 100% going to implement! Always thought this just showed what your radio was tuned to.

A completely fantastic feature, For a VR pilot it's great. For everyone else it's great. Especially that it works "above" in another hat

No way, this is the most usefull DCS tutorial i've ever seen. Always something new to learn.
When you think you already know everything in DCS... thank you fir showing this. Great video!

No kidding!? I've been flying dcs since it's inception and I never knew this existed!
Based on the comments, it looks like you're not alone! :)
I knew about this function, but I did not realize it could be bound to a control that already had a binding that is very handy. Thank you so much.
OK YES!
Very cool. Surprised this is not in Chuck's Guides or on a Wags video. 😊
Yeah, me too. Like I said at the top of the video, I've never seen anyone talk about this feature.
OMG! This may be the best DCS tip I've ever seen!
How did I not know about this? 👀
Thank you for making this video! 🥳
Thanks dude. Haven’t even watched yet but I have always wondered.
Thanks for pointing this out! Now I have some changes to make...

@@takeoffwithjakesoft Thanks.
Good content, just need to be like half as long of a video to get the point across.
