When I was in Durham Jail some years ago , I asked the screw “ why are these cells bricked up ? He told “ they’re haunted and continued to tell me the tale of the only one he knew about and went on to say the guys were kept awake by something unseen pulling them out of bed or tugging at their clothing and their blankets “ . I asked around and sure enough everyone confirmed that the bricked up cells were indeed haunted . That scared me more than the 18 month sentence.

Mark I was in Dartmoor for 18 months just under, I’ve been spiritual since my early childhood I’ve only ever seen one apparition and that turned out to be my grandfather who passed away about 3 years after I was born, anyway I’ve heard and sensed many spiritual activity over the years from hearing my sister call my name not long after was killed in 1991 on Christmas Eve to hearing a spirit singing a Christmas Carrol in the middle of a very hot summer, believe it or not, well anyway when I was a kid 14 years old, a bigger kid on our estate took me to London to visit his father who lived in West Ham, the next day we went to the West end of London and we found ourselves in a church called Saint Martin and the fields, we were in there for about 10 minutes and all of a sudden someone tapped me on the shoulder I turned round and it was a fucking huge copper, and he said to us come with me. well anyway we ended up in bow street police station, I remember walking up a dirty old iron round stairwell and at the top of the stairs there was a office called the matrons office, just along there was 2 juvenile cells then a doorway and a long corridor with all the adult cells, we were both put in cell number 1 and a little bit later on the door opened and the cop said to the other kid who was older than me, and said come on your first so I said first for what he said to get the train, so I said what about me and the cop said your going on the next train home he said, you ain’t going on the same train because you will run off, so he fucked off and I was in the cell on my own and all of a sudden I heard, a little girl softly sobbing saying mamama and it got louder and louder and softer then it stopped, so I banged on my cell door and shouted put her in with me, then I heard nothing else whatsoever, when they came to get me I remember looking down, at the floor outside cell number 2 expecting to see a little pair of daps but there was absolutely nothing outside the door, so we’re in the Black Maria on the way to Paddington station, there was 2 cops in the back with me, and all of a sudden I said to the cop that was talking the other one never opened his mouth, but I said why did you lock the little girl up, you should’ve put her in with me and as I said it, the cop looked straight at the other one and straight back at me and said what little girl Steve, so I said the little girl crying for her mum so he said no Steve you heard the ghost of the bow street cells I really that saying it sounds really corny, and I said what, so he said at the end of the reign of Victoria a little girl was accused of murdering her mother, and she was put in the cells for about 9 days and she died of a broken heart, and just after she died her father was charged with the murder. and he was hung that’s a gospel true story Mark and now I’m 58 years old mate and I often think about that poor little girl, and now they have turned the police station into a hotel and some of the cells have been used for rooms, but believe me Mark I really hope that they have knocked that call down and released her little soul and I said to the cop if I have the power when I die I’m gonna go to that cell and take her by the hand and take her to find her mother that’s all I could say when he told me what he told me I didn’t know what else to say or think, now I was in that cell altogether for about a hour and a half tops, and I heard her, and apparently that cell door has been slammed shut since the mid 50s, the last person to be in that call apparently ended up dying in a mental asylum, she’s not been heard or seen since the door was slammed closed, like I said a hour and a half and I heard her and nobody had since the middle 50s, yet I was in Dartmoor for nearly 18 months and I heard or saw nothing, yet I’ve heard spiritual activity all my life I really find that amazing to be honest with you Mark very amazing indeed mate. I was in the old punishment block E. Wing and i often expected that I hear something during the night but the thing about spirits they don’t just come out at night I’ve heard spiritual activity all hours of the day and night. Anyway they do say wherever there’s suffering there will be spiritual activity unfortunately Mark so I do believe you. I was walking up a very narrow corridor in Dartmoor and there was cells that looked like they had been dug out literally from the granite rock that looked like tiny little caves with a thin board of wood on one side of them for people to lay on and I said to the screw what’s this then boss the old punishment block and he said no it’s the old hospital wing fucking hell Mark I nearly fell off my feet when he said that haha 😂 I did as well. At Fremantle Prison Western Australia with my Brother in law and his kids aged 5. We were in the execution chamber, when we noticed Jazzy was lagging behind. "Hurry up Jazzy." We said. "Sure Dad, just talking to the police man." She replied. There was no one else around, and certainly no one in a police uniform.
i remember when they finished building dreamworld going down the gold coast and they finished building a railway station which was near dreamworld my grandson at the time was a baby bout 10 mnths old sitting in his pram hes looking down the end of the station and waving this was about 7.00 at night i looked at my sister who was there she said whos he waving at there was nobody there brrrrrrr goosebumps

I worked my ticket to get back to Exeter prison where my Sentence originally started, that's another story.I never saw anything,just an air of despondency and grief which oused out of every nook and cranny,terrible place.

I usually believe people's ghost stories as long as they seem genuine enough. It's because I've had some really weird experiences myself. Once, I shit you not, my drawer flung open in my room when I was a kid, I ran out. Another was when I was visiting a national trust stately house. I was looking through the rooms when I came to a dark bedroom. I had a little look in, and all of a sudden, this wave of absolute terror washed through me. I just stepped back into the corridor and tried not to have a panic attack. That house is meant to be home to a couple of ghosts, including one of a woman who killed her infant son, i believe, and then herself by jumping out of a bedroom window and into the moat - the window, I later found out, was in that bedroom. You don't have to believe me because I know that there are a lot of people that just make shit up, but this is all true. I know it is.

Thanks for covering the Shepton prison I’m not far from it. I know now they have a lot of interest in it ! People pay to stay and do seances and things this makes me fancy going
A lot of the older UK Prisons have a rich haunting history. Former friends who worked for a while in Wandsworth Prison said that many of the cells (and other buildings) had a lot of "unexplained goings-on", although nothing particularly unpleasant. The junction of Oxford Street and Park Lane in London is again "supposed" to be a hot-bed of paranormal activity - as you'd expect from the location of the former Tyburn Gallows, where many met their end. Hardly surprising that the Old Bailey is also quite the location, especially the aptly-named Dead Man's Walk, and many reported apparitions may date back to the days of the former Newgate Prison, upon the site of which the Central Criminal Courts were later built.

I recently heard about "Squirrel Cage" Jail in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. It's a rotary jail, meaning its cells revolve inside the building on a regular basis. This led to a lot of inmates being killed by being crushed, etc because they'll have their arms sticking out between the bars of the doors. Apparently it's VERY haunted.
Excellent video, love these types, for some reason i stopped getting all notifications etc so have missed for a while, have to catch up. I had a weird experience at Bodmin jail in Cornwall , what's now a private house in Lancashire/Lancaster (?) Goosnark? And using the rods to find water in the witchcraft museum in Tintageal, i was shocked how forcefully they moved, still nut sure they've not got an electro magnet somewhere lol.

It wasn't the A-Hall poltergeist that concerned me during the recording of this. It was the ghost who "touched their rifles" I thought would have people commenting.
One of the very few vid. producers whose audio is clear and not overwhelmed by special effects and Muzak. any music is unobtrusive and quietly adds to the narration. Other vid. producers take note. Credits his listeners with intelligence .Streets ahead of others.
Also, I did ask this in a comment but you may be a better source lol. The opening photo ? Is that Dartmoor? I can’t think of an English prison that is in such a desolate yet rural site, that would let children get so close.
Unfortunately the circumstances of the first case where the accused was unable to speak English and the British refused to supply an interpreter were far too common back then leading to many miscarriages of justice.
The FMC Butner, Bahama, North Carolina and "The 64th Inmate" story made me remember a story of when I first started working as a Corrections Officer. I worked at a high maximum security prison at night (10 pm to 6 am). When we counted, one officer would count while the second officer watched (two officers could count simultaneouslyif there was a third officer on the floor). This was to make sure no inmate switched positions and got counted twice to hide an escape. The prisoners were locked in their cells at night so that wasn't a problem but we still had to do our counts this way. During shift change, the off going officer would watch while the on coming officers counted. This usually worked fine until I started getting relieved by the 2 stooges who couldn't not count to save their lives. Now the dorm held a maximum of 50 prisoners. They would count while I watched. Then they would come tell me if their count. I would verify if they got it right. If not, go count again. These knuckleheads would come to me saying anything from 45 up to 52 one morning (only 50 beds, remember). I could not leave until they got the correct count so I wasn't going to mess around with the count. Nobody would mess around with the count at anytime, especially going home time. I wasn't the only one having problems with their counting either. I talked with other officers about it and they had the same problems with the same relieving officers. I got to the point of actually bringing popcorn to munch on while watching the show.
I looked at Kingston, but all the write-ups were very general, as opposed to detailing specific events. Someone else mentioned this and have offered some stories from Kingston, so I'll include it in a future video.
Charles Wilkins’ story doesn’t line up with the BOP inmate locator. BOP lists date of release to include the deceased. Only 2-one released 1987, one in 2015.
I was in a place that was a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility called The Whitacker School back in 2009 - 2010 and in a prison called Polk Correctional Institution in 2012 which are both on the same street as the prison @ 11:03. Also it's not Butner County, that's the name of the town. It's in Granville County. The town is so small that it doesn't even have a police department but it has a butner public safety station. However if you tried to escape you would have to outrun the national guard up the street, the sheriffs office from the next town over, and the highway patrol in the next town. Needless to say you ain't going anywhere. To the best of my knowledge The Whitaker School was a military hospital during WW2. And yes strange things would be seen and happen there. I lived there for a little over a year, and about 2 years in Polk Correctional Institution.
Very good. For 30 years I was a governor grade in the English prison service, though I never served at Shepton Mallet. That prison was used in WW2 by the Americans (well, from 1942) who carried out quite a lot of executions under US military law - including for rape, which didn't carry the death penalty in Britain. The film The Dirty Dozen includes an execution scene supposedly in Shepton Mallet.
You should check into the ghosts at the Kingston Penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario Canada. It has recently been turned into a museum, but it was the oldest, longer open Penitentiary than any other. Even Alcatraz! Lots of ghosts in there!

A lot of the older UK Prisons have a rich haunting history. Former friends who worked for a while in Wandsworth Prison said that many of the cells (and other buildings) had a lot of "unexplained goings-on", although nothing particularly unpleasant. The junction of Oxford Street and Park Lane in London is again "supposed" to be a hot-bed of paranormal activity - as you'd expect from the location of the former Tyburn Gallows, where many met their end. Hardly surprising that the Old Bailey is also quite the location, especially the aptly-named Dead Man's Walk, and many reported apparitions may date back to the days of the former Newgate Prison, upon the site of which the Central Criminal Courts were later built.

I recently heard about "Squirrel Cage" Jail in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. It's a rotary jail, meaning its cells revolve inside the building on a regular basis. This led to a lot of inmates being killed by being crushed, etc because they'll have their arms sticking out between the bars of the doors. Apparently it's VERY haunted.
I just recently learned about the squirrel cage but I didn't know people had been crushed or killed

I had a weird experience at Bodmin jail in Cornwall , what's now a private house in Lancashire/Lancaster (?) Goosnark? And using the rods to find water in the witchcraft museum in Tintageal, i was shocked how forcefully they moved, still nut sure they've not got an electro magnet somewhere lol.

It wasn't the A-Hall poltergeist that concerned me during the recording of this. It was the ghost who "touched their rifles" I thought would have people commenting.

Shepton Mallet was opened in 1625 and still in use as a prison till 2013.

Unfortunately the circumstances of the first case where the accused was unable to speak English and the British refused to supply an interpreter were far too common back then leading to many miscarriages of justice.
The FMC Butner, Bahama, North Carolina and "The 64th Inmate" story made me remember a story of when I first started working as a Corrections Officer.
I worked at a high maximum security prison at night (10 pm to 6 am). When we counted, one officer would count while the second officer watched (two officers could count simultaneouslyif there was a third officer on the floor). This was to make sure no inmate switched positions and got counted twice to hide an escape. The prisoners were locked in their cells at night so that wasn't a problem but we still had to do our counts this way.
During shift change, the off going officer would watch while the on coming officers counted. This usually worked fine until I started getting relieved by the 2 stooges who couldn't not count to save their lives.
Now the dorm held a maximum of 50 prisoners. They would count while I watched. Then they would come tell me if their count. I would verify if they got it right. If not, go count again. These knuckleheads would come to me saying anything from 45 up to 52 one morning (only 50 beds, remember). I could not leave until they got the correct count so I wasn't going to mess around with the count. Nobody would mess around with the count at anytime, especially going home time.
I wasn't the only one having problems with their counting either. I talked with other officers about it and they had the same problems with the same relieving officers. I got to the point of actually bringing popcorn to munch on while watching the show.

I looked at Kingston, but all the write-ups were very general, as opposed to detailing specific events. Someone else mentioned this and have offered some stories from Kingston, so I'll include it in a future video.
Charles Wilkins’ story doesn’t line up with the BOP inmate locator. BOP lists date of release to include the deceased. Only 2-one released 1987, one in 2015.
I was in a place that was a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility called The Whitacker School back in 2009 - 2010 and in a prison called Polk Correctional Institution in 2012 which are both on the same street as the prison @ 11:03. Also it's not Butner County, that's the name of the town. It's in Granville County. The town is so small that it doesn't even have a police department but it has a butner public safety station. However if you tried to escape you would have to outrun the national guard up the street, the sheriffs office from the next town over, and the highway patrol in the next town. Needless to say you ain't going anywhere. To the best of my knowledge The Whitaker School was a military hospital during WW2. And yes strange things would be seen and happen there. I lived there for a little over a year, and about 2 years in Polk Correctional Institution.

For 30 years I was a governor grade in the English prison service, though I never served at Shepton Mallet. That prison was used in WW2 by the Americans (well, from 1942) who carried out quite a lot of executions under US military law - including for rape, which didn't carry the death penalty in Britain. The film The Dirty Dozen includes an execution scene supposedly in Shepton Mallet.

You should check into the ghosts at the Kingston Penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario Canada. It has recently been turned into a museum, but it was the oldest, longer open Penitentiary than any other. Even Alcatraz! Lots of ghosts in there!
