@@RiceReal To be fair, Bocchi is such an incredible piece of fiction that it's really moving. I relate so so so much to Bocchi. She was literally me in high school, down to the "ill carry my guitar around and hope people talk to me" like holy shit, this anime killed me when i saw it.
Thanks for making the video, this is exactly what I thought as a kid. I was scared of being forgotten and that no one would remember me when I died, but I learned to accept it and live my life to the fullest. To people out there: It's never too late to have a hobby or do anything you like!
Bocchi is a very relatable character to me personally, being introverted & struggling with social anxiety & shyness/awkward, yet she actually has some deep thoughts on her own.

I don't think there's ever been an anime that has influenced and left such a mark on so many people as Bocchi The Rock has. It's insanely remarkable how many people felt such a strong connection with Bocchi that they would go as far as to create a UA-cam channel just so they can express how much they feel. There's now countless reviews and analyses by small, couple hundred subscribers channels of people who felt something incredible from this show and that truly shows how beautiful this anime was. Bocchi the rock is legitimately one of the most grounded anime to have come out in recent years. The show heavily, and I mean HEAVILY resonated with me despite seemingly simple, and in Ryo's words "It may not hit other people, but to those it'll hit, it'll hit deeply". That said, this is an amazing video, you perfectly put into words what partially makes Bocchi the rock special, you deserve to have more subs. Keep it up :)
(Admittedly shipping aside) but the way you explained the relationship and connection between bocchi and kita is so so good. Since I can't put my own ideas to words, this is really the closest to what I thought so I'm very happy someone thought of the same thing LOL. Good video!
I put my guitar down 6 years ago and never picked it up again, until I finished this show. Bocchi is the rock that gave me the much needed push to reignite my passion and I've been doing my best to keep rolling since. Her cover of AKG's "Rock'n'Roll, Morning Light Falls On You" is my favorite song from the show and I still listen to it daily and play along. This show really is something magical. Also, using Satie's Gymnopédies for BGM is incredibly good taste, so bonus points for you

I know ALOT of people say this without actually having severe social anxiety like Bocchi but damnit, I related so hard with Bocchi. Although, my general and social anxiety is so damn bad that I can't even be around my own family without it feeling like someone is standing on my chest with my heart about to burst. I want to spend more time with my family but.. I just can't 99% of the time and I feel SO damn terrible about it 😔 Having anxiety this bad is truly awful. Medicine like benzo's, etc. definetly help with panic attacks but still, they can only do so much. I haven't seen or spoke to my friends in almost 10 years until very recently. Just like Bocchi though, I started guitar (and other instruments) at a young age and its been my passion since. And it helps, more than you might think. Great video 🤘
I think what really makes Bocchi such a strong character and what makes her the most resilient high schooler in this show, perhaps in any show, is that a person needs quiet moments alone for true self-evaluation and that leads to personal growth. Also what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, being able to overcome adversity leads to strength. And nobody in this show has had as rough a life as Bocchi. Her social anxiety is crippling, which leads to her desire to want to make friends, to "be seen," which led to her playing guitar, but then she became so obsessed with playing guitar, she never stepped outside to make any friends. But those 3 years were all spent in self-growth. And is what makes Bocchi and Kita polar opposites. Kita never had the time for quiet self-reflection. Bocchi had 14 years of self-reflection (which is probably too much self-reflection, LOL).
Bocchi’s outlet is music for her anxiety since she has problems expressing herself. Most people connect because Japanese are tactful introverts. I’m very glad it outsold Chainsaw Man due to it’s creative, humorous compassionate, deep story. The writers were very creative and is in the same level as K-On and Laid Back Camp, and a bit of Hi Score Girl.
I can't believe I cried to fking anime review. Who the hell are you bro? when you start talking about Kita, it hits way too hard after I catch up to the translated manga. idk if you already read it but man... easy sub this makes me think a lot more of Guitar, Solitude, and the Blue Planet the lyrics seem lined with what you're talking about here. Also, the delivery man... if you have a little understanding of Japanese you can feel how raw it is

Someone jumped from the currently translated chapter (37) into the newest chapter 61 and translated it. It's like a self-contained one-shot manga about Nijika. it's not even 4 koma anymore. I highly recommend you read that one chapter because it wont likely get adapted soon even if we gonna have season 3 tomorrow
utterly FANTASTIC. i've watched a dozen or two essays on BtR, and this is one of only two to truly shake me to my core. you actually put into words why i was able to connect to Kita so much, to the point of her being my favorite character in the show, despite never being particularly extroverted. i once was a person who lived through extremely shallow highschool connections (arguably even more shallow than hers), and came out of high school with nothing to show for it, and feeling like i had no identity of my own. it all just fizzled out and i was left feeling more alone than ever going into college, where i failed to even get that to work out this time. i could see that Kita was completely reshaped by her experience in Kessoku Band, and this hits the nail on the head as to why. Everything else in this video is amazing, but that section had me utterly floored in how well it understood her character, and not just made me feel validated but showed me a lot i had completely failed to consider to this point.
I've watched other BtR videos discussing and praising BtR and I haven't commented on any of them, until now. This was a really in-depth analysis of the show that I just had to leave a comment and perhaps, roll your rock a bit :) I really liked your take and perspective of this show. I realized why Kita got admired by Bocchi now; it's because she's like Bocchi but different. I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for your video. Also, I love you for repeating the introduction to the very last part of the video. It brought a whole different meaning to it after all the explanation you've done throughout the enitre video. It was a nice touch. :) You might not realized it but you probably rolled my rock too. Looking forward for your success!
Dude that take on Kita's character was so good 😭 I already figured the mutual admiration they had for each other but the way you tied it all to Ryo's remark on uniqueness was mind blowing ! Overall I think I'm basically in my BTR hyper-fixation phase and I gotta say I'm so glad I found your vid. There's a whole lot of video essays about it out there but so many of it is just repeating the same points about bocchi being relatable and the anime being an outstanding work in terms of adaptation... Which, yeah, both are definetely true, but its so great to finally find a vid that actually takes the time to explore BTR beyond these points and digs a bit deeper into the characters themselves.

Just the passionless kid who held his grades high. As I currently rise into my sophomore year of highschool I choose to watch Bocchi the Rock. It became a reminder, a want to change. The drumset screaming in my basement discarded by an old tenant of my father, the missing cymbals, paint strip drumsticks wanting to be played, another reminder. More wants and desire flourished. Bocchi the Rock has been the stone to “roll my rock.” Also thanks again for this amazing video.
I legit teared up in a few moments throughout this video. From the rock metaphors to your brilliant writing, this is truly amazing. There's a low chance however you'll see this comment given it's more than a year since this was published. Bocchi is the rock that also pushed me ahead and I'm now seeing my life changing bit by bit. The show is truly deep and hence why I can never move on from it no matter how many manga/anime might try to replicate the genius of Aki Hamaji. So thank you for this video

Came here just for a good bocchi review, but somehow got an inspirational life lesson. 10/10 video, in a way you've rolled my rock. I kept this anime in my waiting list just because i already knew that i would love the show, but damn i didn't expect how relatable it was. I, too, was a loner and an introvert when i first started high school and just to have some people to talk with me, i was solving rubik's cubes all day long in my desk. Desperate to have even just for a little bit of attention and interaction with others, this simple toy made me the person who i am. Even though i am still introvert inside as a grown-ass White collar worker, it was the silly determination of me and the existence of my push-over friends that kept me rolling to this day. By the way to me, you rock!

Had to come back here 'cause the narrative of Bocchi being someone's hero and being the one to push their rock hits home again with the recent chapters in the manga. Shows how well you read into the story and understood the characters, well done man!
As someone who is entering college on a Linguistics major path this shit was absolutely peak. Every point you made was so valid and I related a lot even from my recent experience finishing the anime itself awaiting season 2. I love the Kita and Bocchi tie-in and the explanation of how they are two different sides on the same coin that is loneliness. While Kita benefitted from her characteristic traits she had one underlying flaw which was lacking the right motivation for herself. Bocchi on the other hand had that positive trait of having motivation for herself while lacking the characteristics that help to make a person approachable. In short, what Bocchi lacked in friendliness, she made up for a lot of it in her character; vice versa for Kita. Also imo even tho she received her accolades, I feel like Ryo and Hiroi (the drunk bass girl), the latter in particular don’t get much credit for a lot of Bocchi’s growth. When Bocchi first started out in the band she had a lot of tough time adjusting to team play as someone who solo learned the guitar for 3 years and lacked the band experience to be synergized with the band. As mentioned in the video, even though Bocchi gave herself the push, Hiroi’s guidance in the episode where they do a two person busking tour revealed to Bocchi her potential in team play as well as receiving closure in regards to her fans and supporters which she worried about throughout the episode directly rooting from her social anxiety. Without Hiroi’s input in that regard the moment building up to Bocchi’s first major breakthrough in leading the band with the “guitar riff heard around the world” never would have taken place. In a similar fashion although mostly discussed in the video, Ryo’s part in revealing Bocchi’s personal colors and helping her bring that to light ultimately led to the band being able to perform with an identity that they strived for and the identity of the band that Bocchi and the others wanted to portray in a world where leaving a mark on it is met with lots of challenges and prejudice. Overall, solid video. I really appreciate the commentary and philosophy that is delved in each aspect of the anime. I am subbed 😇

Seriously, Someday in the Rain is the best and most memorable track that Kyoani has brought to address existentialism. Speaking of the video itself, Bocchi had this certain feeling when I saw it on the air that I hadn't felt in a while. Bocchi the rock was a series that, in the mundanity of its premises, i found a feeling of understanding close enough to the helplessness of not being able to stand out and be recognized for it, but at the same time a clear difference between its characters, and my person, in how they deal with the situation and live through the challenge of being forgotten, leaving their marks in the lives of others with their music, making me feel grace in the small signs of recognition of my existence, compared to geniuses or fools that my history or science books talk about. Especially that scene where Nijika tells her that Bocchi is her hero made me cry a little bit. yes, i believe in nijika supremacy
found this video in a time I needed it, lately i've felt so unmotivated to do anything. And for some time now, my life has wholly felt as plain as a sheet of paper. I'm alone so it gets generally numb and I quickly fail to think of a goal for that matter, let alone pursue it. But I really admire this philosophy, I think it's healthy and it somewhat motivates me to do that one first push. Thank you for that, I'm definitely revisiting this video in the future to realign myself in the correct path.

im a guitar and bass player. for a while, i only played guitar even though i was way more interested in bass, because i was scared that my friends and family would think im strange, or that im ungrateful of the support that ive been given for guitar. bocchi honestly inspired me to pick up my brother's old bass and to learn and practice. she, with a LOT of practice, managed to become great at guitar in just three years. she was passionate in playing guitar, unlike i was. i was passionate about bass though, so if i was passionate about bass, like bocchi about guitar, and practiced every day, like bocchi did, i could become as good as her. Beautiful video!! :)) Kinda late to the party, but I really loved this show and I'm glad I'm not just limiting myself to the most viewed uploads during my semi-depraved Bocchi review/analysis marathon, because yours definitely deserves more recognition. It's surprising to me that people don't really seem to mention existentialism/wait-I-just-realised-I'm-going-to-die-one-day-and-I've-wasted-so-much-time-so-I'd-better-start-doing-something-worthwhile-with-my-life-ism when talking about BTR, because I saw it to be a pretty prominent motive in the show. It kinda went over my head during the first few episodes but I started paying a lot more attention to it after hearing (or well, reading) these lines in the second ED: "It's time to blast out the thoughts rattling around in my brain/And live, to its fullest, a life/I've been taking advances on for so long/But I also love the days I spend lying around, doing nothing/So I know I'm going to go see you/Before it all disappears some day" I haven't been doing so great these past days and when I heard these lines, they genuinely STUNG. Especially with the video for ED2 being the only one featuring just Hitori and none of the others. It made it feel a lot more sincere. Someone who hasn't watched the show would probably think that viewing Hitori as a role model in any way would be ridiculous, but as someone who HAS watched the show and someone who CAN relate to her on a painfully high level, I can say for myself that following her in her footsteps would actually be beneficial. She's trying to change her life after the odds had been against her for so long and now, after all those years, she finally gets the opportunity to develop and better herself as a person and live her life to its fullest. And she does her absolute best to make use of that opportunity. However slow and exhausting it may be, she keeps pushing herself to not let herself waste away. Idk I'm just rambling, hope this was somewhat comprehensible past my scuffed writing LMAO. You've done a fantastic job at putting some of the thoughts that went through my head and feelings that I felt while watching the show into words. Very very good video, thank you!! xx

Before watching this video: Wonder if this video will talk about the relatability and animation again After watching this video: Almost moved to tears and talking about the character development and interactions of the characters that almost never get brought up I always perceived the relatability factor as a very small part of why I liked Bocchi the Rock, but you have convinced me that maybe it's not as surface level as everyone else presents it. I often wonder about the legacy I'd have or leave and this basically sums that up succinctly. Loved the subtle character development and you really nail an underrated aspect of Bocchi the Rock. One of the greats when talking about this surprising hit.
I would never think of someone like Kita as shallow. I have a friend like her. He does what he can to make someone else's day just a little bit brighter. It gets confusing at first when you see how doing those things don't give him any favors, until you accept the fact that that's just how he is.

I always vibe with serious discussion of slice of life shows. The contrast between the topic discussed and the actual contents of the show being discussed is such an amusing difference that the talking points kinda feel more poignant and relatable. As someone who wanted to also be recognised by others like Bocchi, I’ve long accepted the fact I probably won’t make a big difference in the world when I realised my attempts to be someone I’m not led to people being hurt by my actions. I don’t desire to be famous anymore, but that doesn’t mean I want people to think that I’m nothing to them. I do my best for those close to me. I make an effort to keep up with my friends and hope that my presence make their lives better. That’s how I want to be remembered at least.
The show doesn’t depict Bocchi as brave for simply existing, I love that. I have anxiety similar to Bocchi and I’ve been called brave *for* existing, I hate that lots.
Ive been having a lil episode after reflecting after things just pass me by and apathetic to everything and when i was too late late to show my feelings because i was too afraid to say it and postponing and procrastinating everything i want to do and ultimately not doing it or forgeting it and i realized im not having fun baeely anythings happening in my life i dont feel something from the small things anymore and ive decided to do more and actually live my life and do the things i like and want to do and improve myself (Sry for just venting and dumping lol)

Bocchi’s outlet is music for her anxiety since she has problems expressing herself. Most people connect because Japanese are tactful introverts. I’m very glad it outsold Chainsaw Man due to it’s creative, humorous compassionate, deep story. The writers were very creative and is in the same level as K-On and Laid Back Camp, and a bit of Hi Score Girl.

There's still a suggestion tho. Someone jumped from the currently translated chapter (37) into the newest chapter 61 and translated it. It's like a self-contained one-shot manga about Nijika. it's not even 4 koma anymore. I highly recommend you read that one chapter because it wont likely get adapted soon even if we gonna have season 3 tomorrow
Same, they really expanded on Kita's character on Volume 3. Same with the rest but not that much like Kita's.
This is the biggest difference between this and watamote. She improves herself and never blames others.
utterly FANTASTIC. i've watched a dozen or two essays on BtR, and this is one of only two to truly shake me to my core. you actually put into words why i was able to connect to Kita so much, to the point of her being my favorite character in the show, despite never being particularly extroverted. i once was a person who lived through extremely shallow highschool connections (arguably even more shallow than hers), and came out of high school with nothing to show for it, and feeling like i had no identity of my own. it all just fizzled out and i was left feeling more alone than ever going into college, where i failed to even get that to work out this time. i could see that Kita was completely reshaped by her experience in Kessoku Band, and this hits the nail on the head as to why.
Everything else in this video is amazing, but that section had me utterly floored in how well it understood her character, and not just made me feel validated but showed me a lot i had completely failed to consider to this point.

I really liked your take and perspective of this show. I realized why Kita got admired by Bocchi now; it's because she's like Bocchi but different. I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for your video.
Also, I love you for repeating the introduction to the very last part of the video. It brought a whole different meaning to it after all the explanation you've done throughout the enitre video. It was a nice touch. :)

Overall I think I'm basically in my BTR hyper-fixation phase and I gotta say I'm so glad I found your vid. There's a whole lot of video essays about it out there but so many of it is just repeating the same points about bocchi being relatable and the anime being an outstanding work in terms of adaptation... Which, yeah, both are definetely true, but its so great to finally find a vid that actually takes the time to explore BTR beyond these points and digs a bit deeper into the characters themselves.

But thank you for this content, would love to see more. Bocchi put a perspective on me. I never was much of stain on the world, not an image maker or proud icon. Just the passionless kid who held his grades high. As I currently rise into my sophomore year of highschool I choose to watch Bocchi the Rock. It became a reminder, a want to change. The drumset screaming in my basement discarded by an old tenant of my father, the missing cymbals, paint strip drumsticks wanting to be played, another reminder. More wants and desire flourished. Bocchi the Rock has been the stone to “roll my rock.”

There's a low chance however you'll see this comment given it's more than a year since this was published. Bocchi is the rock that also pushed me ahead and I'm now seeing my life changing bit by bit. The show is truly deep and hence why I can never move on from it no matter how many manga/anime might try to replicate the genius of Aki Hamaji. So thank you for this video

I kept this anime in my waiting list just because i already knew that i would love the show, but damn i didn't expect how relatable it was. I, too, was a loner and an introvert when i first started high school and just to have some people to talk with me, i was solving rubik's cubes all day long in my desk. Desperate to have even just for a little bit of attention and interaction with others, this simple toy made me the person who i am. Even though i am still introvert inside as a grown-ass White collar worker, it was the silly determination of me and the existence of my push-over friends that kept me rolling to this day. By the way to me, you rock!

Had to come back here 'cause the narrative of Bocchi being someone's hero and being the one to push their rock hits home again with the recent chapters in the manga. Shows how well you read into the story and understood the characters, well done man!
As someone who is entering college on a Linguistics major path this shit was absolutely peak. Every point you made was so valid and I related a lot even from my recent experience finishing the anime itself awaiting season 2.
I love the Kita and Bocchi tie-in and the explanation of how they are two different sides on the same coin that is loneliness. While Kita benefitted from her characteristic traits she had one underlying flaw which was lacking the right motivation for herself. Bocchi on the other hand had that positive trait of having motivation for herself while lacking the characteristics that help to make a person approachable. In short, what Bocchi lacked in friendliness, she made up for a lot of it in her character; vice versa for Kita.
Also imo even tho she received her accolades, I feel like Ryo and Hiroi (the drunk bass girl), the latter in particular don’t get much credit for a lot of Bocchi’s growth. When Bocchi first started out in the band she had a lot of tough time adjusting to team play as someone who solo learned the guitar for 3 years and lacked the band experience to be synergized with the band. As mentioned in the video, even though Bocchi gave herself the push, Hiroi’s guidance in the episode where they do a two person busking tour revealed to Bocchi her potential in team play as well as receiving closure in regards to her fans and supporters which she worried about throughout the episode directly rooting from her social anxiety. Without Hiroi’s input in that regard the moment building up to Bocchi’s first major breakthrough in leading the band with the “guitar riff heard around the world” never would have taken place. In a similar fashion although mostly discussed in the video, Ryo’s part in revealing Bocchi’s personal colors and helping her bring that to light ultimately led to the band being able to perform with an identity that they strived for and the identity of the band that Bocchi and the others wanted to portray in a world where leaving a mark on it is met with lots of challenges and prejudice.
Overall, solid video. I really appreciate the commentary and philosophy that is delved in each aspect of the anime. I am subbed 😇

Speaking of the video itself, Bocchi had this certain feeling when I saw it on the air that I hadn't felt in a while. Bocchi the rock was a series that, in the mundanity of its premises, i found a feeling of understanding close enough to the helplessness of not being able to stand out and be recognized for it, but at the same time a clear difference between its characters, and my person, in how they deal with the situation and live through the challenge of being forgotten, leaving their marks in the lives of others with their music, making me feel grace in the small signs of recognition of my existence, compared to geniuses or fools that my history or science books talk about. Especially that scene where Nijika tells her that Bocchi is her hero made me cry a little bit.

found this video in a time I needed it, lately i've felt so unmotivated to do anything. And for some time now, my life has wholly felt as plain as a sheet of paper. I'm alone so it gets generally numb and I quickly fail to think of a goal for that matter, let alone pursue it. But I really admire this philosophy, I think it's healthy and it somewhat motivates me to do that one first push. im a guitar and bass player. for a while, i only played guitar even though i was way more interested in bass, because i was scared that my friends and family would think im strange, or that im ungrateful of the support that ive been given for guitar. bocchi honestly inspired me to pick up my brother's old bass and to learn and practice. she, with a LOT of practice, managed to become great at guitar in just three years. she was passionate in playing guitar, unlike i was. i was passionate about bass though, so if i was passionate about bass, like bocchi about guitar, and practiced every day, like bocchi did, i could become as good as her.

Beautiful video!! :)) Kinda late to the party, but I really loved this show and I'm glad I'm not just limiting myself to the most viewed uploads during my semi-depraved Bocchi review/analysis marathon, because yours definitely deserves more recognition.
It's surprising to me that people don't really seem to mention existentialism/wait-I-just-realised-I'm-going-to-die-one-day-and-I've-wasted-so-much-time-so-I'd-better-start-doing-something-worthwhile-with-my-life-ism when talking about BTR, because I saw it to be a pretty prominent motive in the show. It kinda went over my head during the first few episodes but I started paying a lot more attention to it after hearing (or well, reading) these lines in the second ED:
"It's time to blast out the thoughts rattling around in my brain/And live, to its fullest, a life/I've been taking advances on for so long/But I also love the days I spend lying around, doing nothing/So I know I'm going to go see you/Before it all disappears some day"
I haven't been doing so great these past days and when I heard these lines, they genuinely STUNG. Especially with the video for ED2 being the only one featuring just Hitori and none of the others. It made it feel a lot more sincere. Someone who hasn't watched the show would probably think that viewing Hitori as a role model in any way would be ridiculous, but as someone who HAS watched the show and someone who CAN relate to her on a painfully high level, I can say for myself that following her in her footsteps would actually be beneficial. She's trying to change her life after the odds had been against her for so long and now, after all those years, she finally gets the opportunity to develop and better herself as a person and live her life to its fullest. And she does her absolute best to make use of that opportunity. However slow and exhausting it may be, she keeps pushing herself to not let herself waste away.
Idk I'm just rambling, hope this was somewhat comprehensible past my scuffed writing LMAO. You've done a fantastic job at putting some of the thoughts that went through my head and feelings that I felt while watching the show into words. Very very good video, thank you!! xx

I always perceived the relatability factor as a very small part of why I liked Bocchi the Rock, but you have convinced me that maybe it's not as surface level as everyone else presents it. I often wonder about the legacy I'd have or leave and this basically sums that up succinctly. Loved the subtle character development and you really nail an underrated aspect of Bocchi the Rock. One of the greats when talking about this surprising hit.

I would never think of someone like Kita as shallow. I have a friend like her. He does what he can to make someone else's day just a little bit brighter. It gets confusing at first when you see how doing those things don't give him any favors, until you accept the fact that that's just how he is.

I always vibe with serious discussion of slice of life shows. The contrast between the topic discussed and the actual contents of the show being discussed is such an amusing difference that the talking points kinda feel more poignant and relatable.
As someone who wanted to also be recognised by others like Bocchi, I’ve long accepted the fact I probably won’t make a big difference in the world when I realised my attempts to be someone I’m not led to people being hurt by my actions.
I don’t desire to be famous anymore, but that doesn’t mean I want people to think that I’m nothing to them. I do my best for those close to me. I make an effort to keep up with my friends and hope that my presence make their lives better. That’s how I want to be remembered at least.

Ive been having a lil episode after reflecting after things just pass me by and apathetic to everything and when i was too late late to show my feelings because i was too afraid to say it and postponing and procrastinating everything i want to do and ultimately not doing it or forgeting it and i realized im not having fun baeely anythings happening in my life i dont feel something from the small things anymore and ive decided to do more and actually live my life and do the things i like and want to do and improve myself
