I also need to work on my shield drops.

Hey @turndownforwalt, I'd love to see a video of this nature exploring the intricate play styles of top players. And more specifically, how when opposite play styles/natures intersect on the top stage of Melee! It's a specific request, but I could see so clearly you making a topic like this work eloquently in a video! Obvious suggestion would be Mang0 vs Hbox but do your thing!!! All love, huge fan, keep up the fantastic work!!
How did you even get that *nice shot?
@Riolupai i gotchu
I almost had an anyeurysm listening to boomers talk about cYbEr AtHlEtEs and StAR TrEk CoNs, but another excellent video walt!
Pretty much "we don't understand it, so it must be bad"
I never get their "it's a game not a sport" thing. Traditional sports ARE games. It's when it becomes a competition that makes it a sport
Wonder what they'd say about chess. Games are sports too. Tennis is a game. It's also a sport. That was such a dumb conversation haha.
Same man same, I could feel my blood pressure rise as I hear yet another bunch of closed minded people shitting on something they either don't understand or wished they understand. AND YET NOW THEY'RE ALL HERE BECASUE THEY REALIZE MONEY IS TO BE MADE FROM THIS! man I hate boomers 🤣
@@jaysean9589 well I would say Chess isn't a sport because it doesn't have an aspect of physicality like Melee and traditional sports do. The same thing with poker. If someone who is paralysed can compete at a high level (theoretically possible in Chess and Poker) it probably isn't a sport.
Man just look at the word sport. What a weird looking word
The day that Melee is a solved game is the seventh sign of the apocalypse.
Melee is the ultimate dynamic experience; every outcome and situation is unique and being able to take in that data and improve your chances of winning is so exhilarating.
What the fuck there you are again
Oh wait, its that guy I saw in the comments of the Adam Neely video earlier today
What a nerd haha
It really is so dynamic. I think it's hard to not enjoy the game, even if you don't play!
I agree
Is it more dynamic than ultimate? Or in par?
All your videos are fire. Gonna show this to my esports denying friend.
Glad you enjoyed! Let me know what your friend thinks!
@@kirbydk3896 Actually, with the exception of Smash Ultimate and Melee (and also a bit of Pokémon), I dont really watch esports or any sport whatsoever.
However, with Smash I becomes as hyped as the most fanatic Football/ Baseball/ whatever other sport player as a spectator (as well as a very excited gamer with eager to compete when it comes to _playing_ Smash as well).
The messi thing is completely wrong.
He suffered a disease that prevented him to grow, but he was insanely good at football. Barcelona paid for his treatment and trained him after.
Whoops! I know he had a growth hormone deficiency, but I read a short article that said he was cut from a junior team when he was 11. My bad!

In a summer camp for the arts, my teacher told me, “you strive for perfection so you can achieve excellence.” And those words ring true with melee and me to this day
Well said!
"for now tho, i just want to work on my damn shielddrops" thats the most relatable thing ive heard all day
1:48 "It's a game!" And football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. are what, exactly? I can't believe how myopic these people were.
1:53 How do they think watching esports is fundamentally different from watching sports?
Sports have rules. Games have laws.
The key difference between those two and arguably why esports competition is more 'fair'.
Most traditional sports are better for health though.
Sounds like somebody watched the Innuendo Studios video!
@@turndownforwalt i forgot which video it was but yes, it's not my quote
Amazing stuff man, and an incredibly eloquent way to say how I think many of us feel about the game! I often like to find ways that top players' personalities shine through in their gameplay (whether that be how reserved, aggressive, methodical, or how they react in high pressure situations), and I feel like Melee allows for that more than any other competitive game that I'm familiar with. And after all, self expression is what we should strive for most when playing the game, and in living our lives.
As for how your engineering job/YT career is gonna pan out, I can only say that I consider the quality of your videos to be like the quality of play from a top player in Melee, and I think you express yourself greatly through that. Like you really put in an insane amount of work every time out, and it's honestly crazy how you haven't grown the channel even faster than you have. But like Zain, and all the other competitors who've come up with a similar brand of grind, I know you'll reach far beyond 100K someday if that's what you want. And either way, I'm wishing you the best my guy.
Congrats on 10K :)
Thanks so much Rick, it's great to hear from you! I'm glad you enjoy the content :)
Dude, your script is written so well, you are a hell of a writer
Thank you so much!
Don't undersell yourself man. You make some of the best videos on the site. You're criminally underrated, and I'm happy to whenever I see your videos in my feed :)
I really appreciate that, thank you so much!
I've never subscribed to someone as a Patreon. But if I ever do you're my first choice. You have such an eloquent way of elaborating these histories that I can attach to and value as somebody whose been playing melee competitive since just before the doc was released. Here's to hoping your passion maintains
This is some really high quality content, if you keep putting stuff out like this I’m sure you’ll be rewarded for you effort. I’m sure once melee picks back up again and the new documentary comes out this channel will explode.
What is up with that doc already!
I think the response this channel has gotten is already incredible, but I'm so excited to see where we go from here! Thanks for the comment!
I recently had a falco ditto on netplay, where we played exactly like I one another. It was freaky. I've never seen anything like it. It's not like I'm unique or anything, but melee is just so expressive that it's bizarre to see similar players. I told my wife about it and she understood the concept so well that she suggested that it may have been an AI mimicking my style LOL. While that's a bit out there, I love how it seems more likely than actually finding two melee players who play the same way.
I love your videos! Thank you so much! As someone who is deployed, being able to see tournament highlights and melee content is a godsend!
Thank you for your service!
Thank you for a beautiful video. I love it :)
This video is beautiful. Keep it up!
Its so absurd that your channel has so little subscribers when the quality and production of your videos are so good, keep doing you man!
I still appreciate the close community we've developed so far, and I think it'll only grow from here! Thank you though, and looking forward to hearing more from you soon!

Well you definitely left an impression on me as a first time viewer! I hope this sub helps you out friend. I can relate to being at a cross roads too, with wanting to quit Smash or continue. You made me think of another reason I do enjoy it: for the thrill of improvement and perfection in how I play, so thank you for that! Though I'm still conflicted, you helped in one way or another.

Fantastic video. Great editing, great script, and the footage you captured yourself (I assume? the running footage) looked clean and fit really well in the video. I love it. My another great piece of content. Seems like you can do it all man. Combo vids, game analysis, and more longform stuff.
I think melee's goal of king of the hill and not reducing hp makes it so that there are so many correct answers to any situation that the answer you choose really help define peoples personal playstyles.
Also commenting for engagement because youtube is SUUUUUUUPER dumb.

It's so odd that there's a group of mostly older people that that don't think video games can be a sport when we use the exact same language for most physical sports. You go to basketball/football/soccer GAMES, the athletes PLAY those games.

By the way have you considered minimalist shoes for running? If you've ever run barefoot even just on carpet, you'll notice your toe probably hits the ground first naturally. Noticing that, I switched to zero drop shoes with minimal cushioning and I've never felt so light on my feet! I've also observed all professional runners hit the ground with toe first.
There's a cool history as to why we heel strike but I thought you'd be interested to know this if you didn't as a former runner. I noticed you heel strike and as someone who cares about technique and perfectionism somewhat, I thought you'd appreciate it.
Thanks for the comment, Jay!
So when I took those videos on the track, I had actually not replaced my trainers in well over a year and a half. I've since gotten a new pair of more stabilizing shoes (I'm flat footed and pronate slightly), and I definitely feel much more springy!
Would love to hear more about the history of heel striking also! Interestingly enough, I thought I was heel striking through most of my runs, but a professional looked at my last pair of shoes and said I'm fairly even across the entire foot.
You're amazing. Thank you! to 100k and beyond wow

"Its still not a sport, it's a game" Melee has more applications and options than basically every physical sport. Sports are physically harder but e-sports are mentally harder because there is so much more to think about in real time.
I love melee but how in hell does it have more options than soccer for example, the ball alone can go in a million trajectories depending on your feet, pass and shoot possibilities are infinite
@@joaquinpipinich2042 No it can't because players are only going to pass the ball to a team mate. Objectively yes it can go in a million trajectories, not infinite, and really there is only a handful of options and one input (foot to ball). From a standing position in Football, you can pass, run with the ball, turn, or simply stay still, and that's all of your options with a ball. Running requires the most inputs.
From a standing position in Melee, I can dash forward or back, short hop or full hop, wavedash forward or back, shield, or do any of 5 aerials with various degrees of spacing and fast fall timing. Football is basically - receive the ball then pass it on, it's very primitive like most physical sports.
Topspeedsnaker The branching factor of soccer is like infinitely greater. No robot can perfectly kick a ball in the exact right position, cause there are way too many variables to keep in mind. (Wind/fluid dynamics, position of all particles, etc.) Just because you’re using a different part of your brain, doesn’t mean it doesn’t require more training to your brain and more neuron connections. Motor skills, spacial awareness, and physical estimations require much more of your brain, even if it’s less conscious decision making. Your conscious decision making is also crap compared to your intuition when it comes to these sorta things anyways
@@Calebanton How if the physical applications are much more narrow? I'm talking about humans not robots. All you have in Soccer is a foot and a ball as your primary action. In Melee you have 4-5 fingers as the primary action, and each one corresponds to a vastly different action. In Soccer you only move one limb and interact with one object, in Melee you use multiple limbs to interact with multiple objects, so, there is more to think about in terms of execution, and its harder to coordinate everything together. This still doesn't even account for the timing factor which is even more complex. What you're saying is equivalent to saying chess is harder to play than the piano in terms of physical execution.

@@turndownforwalt Nah, that one is on content-creators like you. It's sad that such a great player and person, with ton's of remarkable footage is always reduced to this one game only.
If you look him up on youtube you find plenty of sets of him playing top players in top8 or GF of tournaments. Random example: ua-cam.com/video/wJcyV5RpCJw/v-deo.html
@@EsperSpirit People feature this set because it's one of the greatest Axe moments, not because they want to dunk on Silentwolf.
