I just bought a 2014 model ....I'm the sports cars kinda guy, but I actually LOVE this little car. Im done with high insurance rates and huge gas bills, time to put my money elsewhere. I will tell you, from the moment I drove this car, I couldn't stop thinking about it, I tried several others ( boring 4 door sedans, that all look dweeby), and I came back to the IQ. Loved it so much, I traded in my "toy", a 1991 Mercedes SL500 !( I sure don't miss that insurance rate !) The IQ drives, handles well, sticks to curves, and has seating room inside like much bigger cars. The car looks sporty and "personnel" I like the 2 door design. When I get some 17" aftermarket wheels on it, and a little extra bass in the stereo, I will be set ! Stop ragging on the IQ.....its a great little car and is a fun sporty stylish ride.. I rather drive it anyday than a Yaris or a Cruise !
Very fun car. Very safe. Mine was totaled a few yrs ago. Was tboned, that flipped it onto the side, slid, was hit again. Airbags everywhere. Climbed out, no injuries.
I want an iQ because I like them. I am not in an area where parking is tight, and I do highway driving for work, but that isn't going to stop me from getting one of these very soon.
Well in that respect if get very good gas mileage for its size especially in the city. Scion iQ: 36 (City) 37 (Highway) Fiat 500: 27 (City) 34 (Highway) Smart: 34 (City) 38 (Highway) And keep in mind that the fiat and smarts mpg are assuming premium gas
When Scion made this car they must have thought, hey lets take a Toyota Yaris, cut of the back and make it look smaller. LOL!!!!! But these are pretty great on mileage. Test drove one and it was fairly roomy, although I went with a new 2018 Kia Soul. Due to I actually need room lol.
I don't live in the city at all (there are only 2 gas stations in my town) and I'd still love one of these. Not a fan of CVTs but what are you gonna do.
The rear seats are only good for emergencies really. I can't see fitting four people in the IQ unless you absolutely have to. For two it's great and for short distances.
If I had $16,000 in my pocket, I'd buy something with more space and more practicality rather than the other way around. In short, I'd buy a Kia Forte, a Toyota Corolla, or a Toyota Yaris.
People fail to realize that the way they rate gas mileage has changed, meaning what was supposed to get 40 mpg really gets more like 33 mpg with the revision.. Keep that in mind the next time you wanna bring up a car that epa rated back in the 80's because they gave revised the ratings several times since then. With that said I think our cars we are getting now are very efficient and dare I say powerful when compared to over 20 years ago
Sure I see ur point 2 decades of improvement should lead to better than before gas mileage now. But if that ur argument u should be bashing every other car made today not just this Scion. This car has better gas mileage than similarly sized cars so it deserves some praise.
I am chubby, but I am very short so--it evens out..LOL...and..it is really roomy....a six foot 3 dude drove it.....it's just like a regular sedan that a car monster bit off the back half..haha
A question for motorweek: Did you guys get your professional driver to get the 0-60 & the 1/4 mile times? Or was he like "Na! I'll leave that to the cameraman."
Truly disappointing Toyota - with a car this small, it should deliver at least 50-60 mpg like the mini cars in Europe and the Orient, and it should be a hell of a lot cheaper. You would be MUCH better off with a Nissan Versa sedan: you would save $5,000 and get better highway mileage to boot.
It is due to being a dated but very proven engine and a little heavier. The new iA is Mazda based, with 100 hp, and gets 40 mpg very easily can even achieve close to 50 mpg on the freeway. Toyota really needs a 50 mpg plus super simple 4 seat car. However, the Versa is not exactly very reliable long term. It is a car plagued with quality control issues. Sure, I can pick a new manual window base model up for 10 grand with discounts, but it won't hold up like the Toyota cars.
Everyone in America doesn't want a pick up ,SUV & or Crossover! basic transportation. we all could care less about keeping up with the Jones .being car poor or house poor.saving money be economical & practical is not a sin or crime imo😐
1. A whole car weighs more than one ton. 2. A whole car has a wheelbase more than 6.6 feet. 3. A whole car can hit 60 mph in less than 9 seconds (this is useful to get out of the way of larger vehicles that might hit you). 4. If you and your friend Jamie got in a whole car at the same time, you probably wouldn't need semi-pneumatic tires (based on the "Mercedes Benz" vid on your channel).
I say $10,000 new considering how much car you get. For $10,000 I'd own one. But way too much for what they are asking for. Rather get a much better used car for the price they are asking for new. Geo Metros get more MPG then these cars and they're cheaper and bigger.
It wouldn't get that if based on today's revised MPG numbers...more like 28-30 - which the IQ torches. Honda fanboys are as annoying and misinformed as Apple fanboys...
Yeah... it's easy to state a claim without having to worry about little things like facts to back up the claim... Care to cite a source for your fallacy?

+Larry Jones Don't insure the Mercedes, and your overall insurance rate will be no higher than a non-sportscar
.
Do you still have it?
Very fun car. Very safe. Mine was totaled a few yrs ago. Was tboned, that flipped it onto the side, slid, was hit again. Airbags everywhere. Climbed out, no injuries.
Damn, that sounds like a movie scene.
I have one, too. I wouldn't want to go toe to toe with an SUV, but there are about 20 airbags in the thing, so I do feel relatively safe driving it
I bought mine in 2015 and love it. I commute 100 miles per day, parking is a major issue where I live and people love the car.
0-60 mph in 9.6 seconds isn't bad. Still just under 10 seconds. I'd definitely get one.
I got mine in 2012 and I loved! If they still make this I would get another one
I want an iQ because I like them. I am not in an area where parking is tight, and I do highway driving for work, but that isn't going to stop me from getting one of these very soon.
Thanks for saving me the embarrassment of getting into a street race with one of these! This car would smoke my 2015 Mirage.
A perfect car for someone who doesn't have a lot of friends.
Sometimes when I am lonely I will shave one leg so it feels like I’m sleeping with a woman 👩🏼 🛌
I once drove with 6 of my friends in that car coming back from pub. All of us weigh above 200lbs and half are over 6ft

Actively looking for one for sale. Crazy how well they hold their value
Could be partly due to it being a 2 door
have a 2013. Love it. no mistake here

I'd buy one of these tiny cars if it was in the $10,000 range
At 36 the Toyota IQ is the highest City MPG of any nonhybrid car
.
Came to watch this after view the Doug DeMuro video on the Cygnet. I never even see these iQ models here in VA!
practico, bonito, economico, atarctivo, muy compacto, etc.
The crx hfs did get 42 mpg city 51 hwy with the revised epa ratings...the chevy sprint er did 44/53 tho
I'm interested in this car. Can it tow a trailer you think?
The rear seats are only good for emergencies really. I can't see fitting four people in the IQ unless you absolutely have to. For two it's great and for short distances.

Yes, toyota yaris cost the same, same mpg. But yaris bigger and more practical. Scion iq alot smaller, it should cost about $12000, not $15000.
The gear shifter looks funny, it looks like a stick with a baseball on it!
People fail to realize that the way they rate gas mileage has changed, meaning what was supposed to get 40 mpg really gets more like 33 mpg with the revision.. Do you mean that the same way if this was a 2 seater porsche?
i wanna know how it handles potholes, segmented pavement, scalloped pavement, pockmarked pavement, wavy curvy stuff.
that's because you are an American. Go to other countries. I own a 2013. The options alone are worth 10,000. LOVE IT
i mean 36mpg (in the city) is impressive, the 2003-05 civic [mild] hybrid (equipped with the 5-speed manual) got 37 mpg in the city
...what are these weird camera zooms?
Really? A bigger screen that your laptop?
You need a Navi with a Microcar?
The Scion IQ Looks Like Little Ninja Warrior on Wheels ☮☯😀
Say that after the Midol wears off, dear. In the mean time I'd love a cup of coffee.
I am chubby, but I am very short so--it evens out..LOL...and..it is really roomy....a six foot 3 dude drove it.....it's just like a regular sedan that a car monster bit off the back half..haha
thank god
does it have aircon? heater?
I own one...2013. I get like...40-44 miles to the gallon. I am the fact.
Is the Scion iQ rough riding? Thanks
What an awesome car meant for anyone shorter than 5'6!
I bet it will perform well when hit by any SUV
I don't feel like they're worth what you pay for them.
I'd rather buy a nicer used car for $10,000
$10,000 is the most I would pay for a tiny car.
If you don't mind paying a little bit for insurance this is a pretty good second car. Prices should be going down with them
😆 wanna bet?
A question for motorweek: Did you guys get your professional driver to get the 0-60 & the 1/4 mile times? Or was he like "Na! I'll leave that to the cameraman."
We have a little box that connects to the car and monitors all of the data! We haven't done it manually in a long time.
Damn calm down lady! You're crazy! I wont even reply to you anymore. G'day mate!
Perfect car for NYC
Ive never seen one are these still in production?
I've only seen 2 in town myself.
And yeah they still make them.
+Prizm2356 yes!
Half a Car is subjective. Who ever defined what a WHOLE car actually is? FYI: Midol is a scam. Vicodin is the way to go.
best color
in black
he is talking about the combined average for fuel economy, not the highway numbers

The 50 mpg European minicars have nowhere near 94 hp! As scary as it would be to drive an iQ on the freeway, at least
it can get out of its own way.

lol good point! Leave the Tahoes for 6 footers!
1. A whole car weighs more than one ton.
2. A whole car has a wheelbase more than 6.6 feet.

don't forget comparing city mpg..people! especially the one who brought up nissan Altima.
No way for $15K. Maybe for $6k.
legomaniacman Buy it used.
ohhhhh... the carnage!
my 2012 passat tdi, a mid-size 4-door sedan, gets 40mpg. granted, it cost twice as much.
true, i guess they're just hold back technology for the future...its sad but true it seems
If this is too boring, just buy the Aston Martin Cygnet :D
Good quality from a Toyota product? Im surprised to hear that. I will admit that I like the looks though.
A real six speed auto or manual + 45mpg and this car would sell, but not at this price range and not at that mpg.
I think my closet...i mean garage.... is big enough for that.
I'm game
I say $10,000 new considering how much car you get. For $10,000 I'd own one.

exactly what i said when i was picking up my tC a few weeks ago lol, it looked cheap and wayyyyy too overpriced
for the price i would much rather get the accent/rio and get similar mpgs..
It needs to start at $12K and have better MPG, otherwise I can't see the point.
It's crazy how this 1.3 liter motor can fit into a RX7 and vice versa. Swap anyone??
I think the MR2 1985 is much better 😃.
Measure your CRX against today's revised EPA real-world numbers, Honda fanboy. The IQ would beat it.
Hondas are ridiculously overrated.
Ya Mad Bro? You probably don't even have good enough credit to buy a new car. Keep your hoopty..LOL....
The inflation (and value loss of orofots) created by the +devade of profitabke crossovers have made Small cars near extinct now. 2023
I am gonna make a video of my car, and flood your inbox with it! :DDDD
I love Toyota but I have to say that the iQ is a mistake.
What are we turning into china next well all be riding mopeds to work with these gas prices
Nice, they overinflated a smart car.
I say slap a TURBO on it!
disappointing? 37mpg...thats what some hybrids get
It wouldn't get that if based on today's revised MPG numbers...more like 28-30 - which the IQ torches.

You drive? There's no street in the kitchen!

This from someone who owns half a car - yet paid full-car price for it?
Get in your clown car and buy some Mydol. Judging by your post, you need it.
first
looks awful.
terrible
ya lost me at cvt.....
I have not seen any complaints on this one, then again with it being small, CVT fluid changes should be pretty inexpensive.
