Really appreciate what Derek Gripper is doing, marrying many styles of classical guitar especially from the kora tradition. Im a guitarist also and as a younger man met Tata Dindin at a festival in Exeter Uk. We played together alot and remained friends until his death last year. He invited me to the Gambia to show how i played guitar so well with the Kora. I never went, civil wars and all that. I dont know if he ever heard u Derek but i hope he did. U r at another level.
Hi Derek! Had the honor of attending your concert last night at the Nolan Music Center in Georgetown, Washington DC. I was riveted by your performance-truly touched by your beautiful playing. I'm trying to find some of the songs you performed-any chance you could share titles in the video comments? 🙂
Hey Karina, in the absence of any other reply, my suggestion would be to start with listening to Toumani Diabate’s album Kaira, in its entirety. There are several pieces from there played by Derek here.
