    The 1896 Olympics didn’t include the best athletes in the world. There were about 240 participants from 14 nations. About two-thirds of the participants were Greek. The rest were mostly European. Some of the participants were tourists on vacation who happened to be in Athens, Greece at the time.

    4:44 True, at the first Olympics athletes were slow however a high school athlete is comparable to a professional at the time (or maybe more) whereas before only amateurs were allowed to compete. It would be interesting to run with their equipment too

      @@supermicro9034 I think you got wrong. Maybe in 1930, not in London 1896. Check the winner names and look and their profession. Of course humans did not evolve in 120 years but the knowledge about sport training and nutrition changed drastically

      I don’t think so. Development of times in sport starts pretty quickly but slows down a lot, look at some charts for example swimming world record progression of 100m freestyle

      Yes. Their performance is actually pretty impressive considering the equipment and conditions they dealt with at the time. The pole vault looks pretty weak until you consider they did it with no padding and very heavy wooden poles.

    Remember that when De Coubertin created olympics he stricly said that they were exclusive for AMATEURS, no pro could have partecipted at it, so 1896 olympics were almost a first time running for some of the athletes

    Great idea, fun challenge. But keep in mind, they ran on a cinder track in leather shoes. Think about Jim Thorpe years later running in mismatched shoes. Amazing trailblazers.

      Kind of. He doesn’t start and stop 4x. Once at speed he maintains it. 100m starts from 0 mph every time
