I had the honor to know Col Lee. I grew up with his stepsons and daughter. He was scary to a little kid but always a gentleman. Plainspoken and a true patriot. He had the greatest stories.

Read quite a bit about this legend; the loyalty he inspired in his enlisted men was off the charts and it's easy to see why.

Guy was one of three Marines with three Navy Crosses. Only man to this day to get three service crosses of any flavor for one deployment, earned his third Navy Cross after being shot in the head, longest held prisoner of WWII, killed the remaining guards after the first half of guards abandoned the camp. Lived for 98% of the 20th century. I’ve seen two pictures of him and a minute long video.

Chesty was General Patton's first cousin. All the old hard boys came from the South.

I noonlight for a shipping company. Last night I unloaded two trucks with my partner & a scanner, then before I did my third truck I was helping my scanners husband (who was scanning different truck) push heavy items down a rolling table to the train, top item was a metal cage, right in the forehead. When I was at the aid station I was thinking of the Colonel. Manager said when I came back to forget my original team & help a guy who was unloading alone. After I helped him do the bottom half of his truck, he & my original partner helped my original scanner unload a completely full truck, then after that I helped another guy unload a truck that was still quarter full with heavy packages. The scanner on that tuck was the guy I was helping when I was hurt. So after the smack on my fore head I did one half truck, one full truck & one quarter truck

Ain't nobody tougher than we combat Infantry paratroopers. Marines have the greatest P.R. spin machine but we let our actions do our talking. B/4/503rd Infantry 173rd Airborne Brigade, RVN, (1965-'71) - Airborne!
