You can grow from dried pods but depends on how it was stored. Some seeds decay faster than others so germination rate decreases as time goes on. Usually you get pods from your own plants and other people you may know. There are a few forums but beyond that, it’s hard to find a reliable source.
Unless you live in a climate or environment where orchids grow rampant in the wild, it would be difficult to grow orchid seeds in dirt. Most Cymbidium seeds are tiny and dust-like, so it would be difficult outside of “lab-like” conditions.
Hi. I just saw your UA-cam video. I have the agar and want to sow the seeds of orchids but problem is I can't find seeds in Pakistan. Pls advise how I can buy seeds of dendrobium and cataliya. If you can share the address of seller I would be thankful.
Great process and documentation! Sometimes my orchids outside here in Glendale end up pollinated, but sowing the seeds on my tree has been more miss than hit. I just messaged you on IG about maybe collaborating somehow.
Unfortunately, I would have to say that the seeds are not orchid seeds. Might be something else. The largest orchid seed is about 6mm or about the size of a radish seed. The ones I have encountered are pretty much like dust and even the larger ones are pretty hard to count individually. The monkey face orchid (Dracula species) typically have small seed pods, so the seeds themselves will be very tiny. Most sales of orchid seeds are questionable unless dealing with a verified source and typically send seedpods rather than individual seeds. Sorry, hopefully it wasn’t too expensive.
Monkey face orchid (Dracula orchid) seeds are a scam. On top of that, the plant itself is a difficult one to grow. It requires high humidity, cool temperatures and low light which is a breeding ground for fungi. Won't recommend those for beginners.
What liquid are you referring to? I use isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface. Hydrogen peroxide with a little bit of soap to suspend the dry seeds in solution. 50/50 bleach water solution to disinfect the green pod.
Your sterilisation sounds the same as in growing mushrooms , if I had contaminated ie mold I isolated what mushroom spores etc that were growing to another dish in a still air box , that helped a lot with trichoderma green mold , isopropyl alcohol I used mostly for sterilising and worked pretty well most of the time , even wearing a mask since even your breath can carry bacteria. 👍
Excellent detail of your process/procedures. Lots of great information. Thank you!
Thanks!
That was very interesting!!! You explained it very well and easy to understand manner. Good luck with all your jars, hoping to see the plantlets👌🤞🍀
Thanks Fernanda! I hope so too 😁
Good luck in growing orchid from seeds 😄 I'm rooting for success
Thank you! I hope so too 😁
What an interesting technique. I would never have considered turning a bathroom into laminar hood!
Yea! My husband gave me the idea since he creates experiments all the time for work. This seemed the most feasible for me 😁
@@AttainableGreen Very cool!
Hi, it's an exemplary video, keep it up, since from the year 1989 am associated with TC as lab to land programmer.
Great video, thank you! I’m getting *close* to trying this at home!
Did you go thru with it? How could you tell when the pod was ready for green or dry sowing?
@@kalimanrod no, not yet.
I somehow missed what to put in the flask for green pod seeds. Is it the dish soap and hydrogen peroxide that you mixed/used for the dry pods?
Thank you so much for this information, I have a pod that’s almost ready to be picked
Glad it’s helpful! Hope it works out for you 😁
How can you tell when the pod is ready for dry or green sowing?
I would like to know how to make DIY agar medium for sowing orchid seeds.
I have not made my own medium yet, but there are recipes in this link: issuu.com/marcoacuna/docs/a_guidebook_in_orchid_micropropagat/30
Can you give any advice if you dont have a hepa filter? would i still have success if i dont use one?
Love your science experiment! You're learning a lot from trial and error. Very cool. What did you do to disinfect your instruments?
I used 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect my tools
How can you tell if the pod is ready for green pod sowing or dry pod sowing????
Very interesting! 🌱🐈😊
Thanks 😊
Very cool!
Thanks 😊
I would pollinate but not germinate… I respect your work! Looking forward to see lots of or-“kids”!
Thanks! It’s much easier to pollinate, that’s for sure 😂
@@AttainableGreen lol I d rather send it to a company (happen to have one in the state). William Green’s C. Rex is germinated there also.
Can plants grow from dried pods? Where would you recommend getting a green pod from?

what is the medium u used mam?
It’s a agar based nutrient solution from Phytotech labs to help orchid seeds grow
I can’t just put the cymbidium orchid seeds I bought in a pot of dirt?

High level of growing orchids!!! 💚💚💚
Haha not really a higher level, just different 😂

Hi, if 's posible the metallic tape name please ?????
It’s aluminum foil tape for HVAC duct repairs.
You may want to use a still air box.
Good day po, may I ask po where to buy P723 Orchid seeds sowing medium?
I got it from Phytotech Labs. There may be other distributors, but I got it direct from their website.
How many percent hydrogen peroxide?

I always wonder how orchid seeds were grown during the 1800s. I think it was around this time that orchids were being cultivated from South America.
I have brought monkey face orchid seeds from amazon are you saying they are not real

It's long process.....I just plant from cutting save all the scientific part.
Too much talking not enough showing & explaining why.
