You're in for a treat with Sarah Jane! It's crazy how close we were to a Doctor Who cinematic universe years before the current 'Whoniverse' came into being. The idea of multiple shows set within the same canon and all airing more or less simultaneously was WAY ahead of it's time in the mid-2000s, and the idea mostly died down when Moffat took over as showrunner, with only one very short-lived spinoff called 'Class' airing in 2016. Fast forward to 2024, and cinematic universes are all the rage, so it's no wonder RTD wants to pick up where he left off.
34:14 growing up, this was the only person to ever admit that when you get older, life still doesn’t make sense and it’s always messy. It’s just a lovely monologue and it’s stayed with me 🩷
So glad you watched this and enjoyed it so much. I was in my 40s when The Sarah Jane Adventures first went to air, so well outside the target demographic, but I adored it all the same. There’s something so warm and welcoming about it - some sadder and moving moments too, but overall, it’s such a delight: full of nods and callbacks to the classic era, but also pitched so well for moderns audiences, telling us that everyone needs friends and human contact instead of cutting ourselves off from the world, and reminding us that grown ups still don’t know what we’re doing. Looking forward to watching more of reactions to this show!
I'm delighted that you're reacting to the Sarah Jane Adventures. I enjoyed the show a great amount. And yes, I'm *way* past the original target audience age. Elizabeth Sladen was such a gem! The supporting cast is pretty darned good as well. Most of the rest of the shows are two parters with each episode being about half hour. Maybe react to them as a single adventure?
in case you were wondering whilst its not explained in the show, the writers explained that Sarah Jane got her Sonic Lipstick from the new K9 the doctor gave her at the end of school reunion. The Doctor had apparently left it for her in one of K9's compartments.
The Sarah Jane Adventures is a lot better than you expect, or at least for me it was, I always heard it was Doctor Who for kids so was apprehensive and put off watching it, but I did watch it in the end and I thoroughly loved it, I can't imagine how much fun it must have been watching it when it aired when you were around Maria's and Luke's ages
The Sarah Jane adventures was aimed towards kids and was on early so I didn't get much chance to see it very often . I did like what I saw , very much in the spirit of the original Dr Who with a twenty first century twist . I'm really glad you've decided to watch the show and I'm looking forward to seeing you react to more .
Even though this series was aimed at a younger audience, it was arguably the one spinoff that provided the most callbacks to the original classic era of Doctor Who. My favourite nostalgia moment from the series was in season 4 where Sarah Jane meets her immediate predecessor companion with the Doctor - Jo Grant - for the very first time. It's a lovely nostalgia-fest for anyone who watched their original adventures with the Doctor when the originally aired 50 years ago.
mrs. wormwood is played by Samantha Bond. Most Americans know her as the earl of grantham's sister, lady rosamund, in downton abbey. i personally love her in 'home fires' more as she has a bigger role. she is a British gem.
I am so happy you are reacting to this show! There are not words to describe how much i love it! I cannot wait for you to experience it for the first time!
The pinkish alien in Sarah Jane's garden was reused for the Torchwood series because apparently Russel didnt know what design to give Mary so reused the model
There is a lot of information about what would have happened with the series that never got to air but I hope no one spoils what those things were. It’s an amazing show and I wish we still had the marvellous Sarah Jayne x
k-9 is in legal limbo at this point, as he partially belongs to the writer who originally created him, and at this time the writer was working on getting his own independent k-9 spin-off made the show *did* happen, but it didn't last long, eventually freeing the character to be used by the bbc again-just, not quite yet
Unfortunately, there was apparently a rights issue related to the character K-9 because there was a K-9 TV in development and scheduled to air in Australia, so he isn't in very many episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures. The K-9 TV ended up not tying into the Doctor Who universe, so don't worry about watching it.
27:27 unfortunately the Actress who plays Kelsey isn’t part of the main group going on, I don’t believe this is a spoiler, but the reason is due to wanting a balance of gender throughout the main group. Her character was only supposed to be in the first episode anyhow and wasn’t intended to be a big character going forward and it sucks I wish we got more but unfortunately she stepped away from acting x
I'm almost ashamed to say that this is the only episode of SJA that I've watched. Not because I didn't enjoy it (and I was the target age demographic at the time), it just kinda slipped by. I think now's the perfect time to give it a go, I'll see if I can keep up with your release schedule!
I don't love Invasion of the Bane, but there are some seasons of SJA that I consider better than seasons of TW and Doctor Who run the same year. Big fan. Hope you enjoy!
Anthrax is a naturally occurring substance yet falls into the category of "not good". This is perhaps shown best in the Dilbert animated series, in which the company releases a throat lozenge made from it.
Bare with this show, it grows with its audience. And it’s made for kids. I’d still rather watch this then the who they’re showing nowadays to be honest
What’s nice about sj adventures is how warm they are. You don’t leave feeling sucked dry. It’s nice to have a show you can go to for warm feelies.
yes but there are a handful that make me weep for obvious reasons

Really is a shame, a River spinoff running alongside 11's era would've been so good.

The names Sarah Jane suggests before Luke (Harry and Alistair) are both nods to characters from her time on Classic Who
Do you play Professor Layton?
@@RubyMadigan alistair in particular being "the brig," father to kate stewart, the unit head from ncuti's first season
I'm so hyped for this reaction, the Sarah Jane Adventures is the GOAT of Doctor Who spin-offs.
For me it is on the same level with torchwood

All that drink commencial needed was Peter Tyler saying "Trust me on this"
the way Sarah jane talks of the universe throughout this show is so incredible and warm she was such a inspiration growing up

My childhood companion... the goat!
The BEST Doctor Who spin-off 😊
Luke was like, my childhood crush watching this show, didn’t know it at the time but he was absolutely my gay awakening lmao

5:26 LOL I remember really wanting a friend like her 😭🤣 I generally thought she was so cool 🤣🩷

The plot with the bubble shock reminds me of the slurm factory in Futurama 😂

Omg I love this show. I forget how much all the time until I see it again. It make me feel so warm and makes me miss my my childhood

Damn, haven't thought about Kyle XY in a really long time. Used to love that show.
7:16 I always felt special knowing I was one of the 2% due to my blood type 💀 literally thought I was just like the main girl lmao 🤣🤣🤣

U seen that alien before on torchwood, the one Sarah Jane was playing with

it's an excellent show no matter your age. I'm of the opinion that series 11 of DW tried to emulate SJA and did a much poorer job.
Ah yes! Love that you're doing this
I don't love Invasion of the Bane, but there are some seasons of SJA that I consider better than seasons of TW and Doctor Who run the same year. Big fan. Hope you enjoy!
😮
I think its a good starting point for the series tbh
@@Venemofthe888 Sure, I just think "evil product" is my least favorite Doctor Who plot is all.
I really liked the kids. I wish they weren’t completely left behind after the show’s sudden end for so long

Yay! so happy you are watching this!
❤❤❤
you keep calling sarah jane "stacked," and it's only toward the end of the video that i understand you probably aren't commenting on her body 😅
