My 92 XJ gor rear ended in 2020, messing up my frame right there where the filler hose went through. My guess was also that I would have to fab something as well. This is a great video to help me figure that out.
Nice job! As for the POR15, I reduce it with acetone and spray it. I use a 15$ HVLP gun from Harbor Freight. Does a really nice job. You want to make sure to wear a respirator when spraying any paint. God bless, stay well.
I have to do the same repairs on my 2000. I'm not a welder, but I might have to learn. What dia wire are you using? I've watched a bunch of these videos, doing this repair / intall. I'm impressed with the quality of your work. It looks great. (how much to do mine? LOL )
@@OutJeeping Thanks, I'm getting more confident that mine can be repaired. I can do any of the mechanical work, no problem. But like I said, I'm not a welder. I did find someone near by that offered some pointers. Thx again.
@@detroit_mountain9418 That''s the direction I'm leaning, the impression I've gotten from people that seem to know what they're talking about. I did get a gas bottle, 75% argon, and need to do a considerable amount of practicing. Thanks for the tip,
Hey Austin, was just wondering if you had to deal with the “No Bus” issue with any of your jeeps? I know they had a factory recall which consisted of replacing the pigtails that plug into the gauge cluster but 22 years later I can’t find the kit for the recall anywhere. I tried cleaning the connectors, I cleaned and redid the ground for the dash and the one on the firewall in the engine bay. I also used the 3m double sided tape behind where the plugs sit behind the cluster to oust the plugs further into the cluster for better contact. All this seems to have helped as I only get the no bus message every few months instead of every week like it had been, but I was wondering if you knew of a better fix that would deal with the issue once and for all. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos, and I am sporting a out keeping decal on my 2001 Jeep Charokee XJ
I had the same issue with the Black '99 Sport 4x4. Constantly an issue that was never resolved. My current '99 Sport has never had the issue. She is a 2wd and has never been off road. I'm sure that is a major factor in whether or not the bus issue happens. Ultimately though, it is a design flaw in our beloved Cherokees.
When you use the Jeep for more than just daily driving, you will experience cracks and stress fractures from offroading and larger tires. Stiffeners help to eliminate that as well as help aid any rust repair as well. You don't want your unibody to flex. That is what suspension is for.
Great job. Very nice photography of the process. I have a ZJ and will be using this for a reference. Also, nice tip concerning self-etch on POR15. 😉
Excellent work ! Good tip on the bump stops that are smooth on top instead of a holding water
Great prep, fitting tacking and welding, like the various winter protecting paints. Big time good video.
Great video! I had the same issue with the fuel hose hole rotting out, so it really helped seeing what you did there.

Perfect timing! I have this project slated for this summer.

Awesome Job Austin
Looks really good.
Need to do this on my ZJ this summer! Great video!
Sticker ordered my man!
Thanks for the support from across the pond! Sticker will ship out tomorrow!
Did you drill holes for hitch mount in your frame repair? Or will you drill later if needed?
I have the same problem on a Xj I’m working on the hitch rotted it out
Why did you get rid of the silver xj? You had so much done to it.
Jest bardzo pomocny

I'm using flux core .035 wire on a Lincoln 140 120v welder. The quality in wire makes a huge difference so I would stick with name brand.

@@daveshane957I'm a welder for a living you should be using 0.25 or 0.23 wire because it uses less heat to melt the wire trust me on that

@@daveshane957 yea no problem yup 75 25 is what you need and just watch the puddle when welding and go from thick to thin so you avoid burning thru
Do I need to pull the carpet up in the back? Fire hazard?
I did, I would would consider it for that reason.

Is that a 120v welder?
Correct
I like the hoodie! Where did you find it?
it's a Facebook group

My XJ wouldn’t be running had it not been for this page
why can't you just bolt it in?
Who needs a body on frame when you can do this to an xj
Why would you want to stiffen the frame? You want some flex. Unibody is already stiffer tham body on frame
