Hey guys 👋🏽 Great to see you're making Tas a priority! We left mid March & want to go back already! We pretty much did a clockwise loop so I'll go in that order for our fav places & things.
North east: check out Derby & book the floating Sauna on lake Derby. Might even see platypus in the river.
Halls Falls is a nice hike (echidna!) on the way to East Coast.
St Helens (free camp near Rec grounds) then a short drive up to Bay of Fires (all sites are free!).
Further south was one of our fav Tassie experiences - Maria Island day trip. Soooo many wombats up close. The ferry leaves from Triabunna. There are donation camps in Triabunna or plenty of parking at docks. Pack a lunch & snacks & wear comfy walking shoes.
Further south east coast is Coles Bay & Freycinet NP - Wineglass Bay lookout & walk to the beach for a swim 🥶.
If you go to the Tasman Peninsula (Port Arthur Historic Site) make sure you fill all your water tanks - there are no taps only very scarce payable potable water on the Peninsula.
Hobart is a beautiful city, day & night. We camped in the cul-de-sac near the CSIRO carpark at Battery point. Just leave before paid parking kicks in.
Keep an eye out for bioluminescence in the Derwent River 💫
Get to the Salamanca Markets on Saturdays.
Also amazing fruit/veg at Farmgate markets in town (Bathurst Street) on Sunday mornings. If you enjoy art & want a cheap ($35) eye opening experience, get to MONA.
And highly recommend doing a hike up/down part of Mt Wellington!
West of Hobart is Mt Field NP where you can do an easy but beautiful walk to 3 waterfalls.
Camping is avail in the NP.
Futher west is Queenstown - it's mountainous backdrop & environmental history is mind blowing.
North from there is Montezuma Falls &, if its rained before you visit, then it WILL be spectacular! Cradle Mountain is a beauty & is a couple of days of sight seeing. Camped up in the long vehicle carpark with no probs. Toilets are open 24/7. Gets bloody cold at night. If you get a chance, book a night feeding tour of the Devils@Cradle. Pretty cool!
For the ultimate & free penguin experience, get to Burnie (North West coast). The Little Penguin Observatory does an info session each night (check Google maps for time) then the guides point out & monitoring the penguins as they come in. They answer all your questions. There's also Lillico further east along the coast for more penguin love 🐧😍.
We also enjoyed Leven Canyon. Totally free & heaps of wildlife.
Devonport was easy street camping & hot showers at the Bluff playground area.
Tassie is a stunning place so I'm sure you're gonna have a amazing time!
The other thing about Tassie is how friendly the locals are!
    What direction are you heading?

Also, Cataract Gorge in Launceston is brilliant...& free hot showers too!
Tassie is pretty good for camping & free/coin hot showers (trust me... It's freezing & a cold shower is not gonna cut it)

@@declankadee oh & stock up food & fill your water @ St Helens 'Rec centre campground' before heading up to Bay of fires. There's drop loos at BoF, but no water. It's magic if the wind doesn't spoil it.

Definitely get to Cygnet. I lived there for 17 years, it's a beautiful place. Go to Drip Beach, you can park there overnight

How much is the ferry fee for a hiace size car?

    • @declankadee
      @declankadee  4 місяці тому +3

It was $1,092, but that’s for two people return and the van was over the regular car height limit so cost us a little more. For sure worth it though !

@@declankadee can’t complain for two and return. Cheers.
