I had some brainlet on Facebook get upset with me because I pointed out the changes for OneDND were terrible because no one was left at WoTC who could properly design. He rattled off Crawford as the "co designer" of 5e - which I pointed out was a meaningless title. Of course the admins of that group tried to give me a timeout for being "rude" and "a jerk" - when he was umm actuallying me. WoTC can have their VTT only audience, that group of people will get bored after a month and go back to playing Fortnite.
Crawford is no game designer. He’s a trumped up editor. 5E was good because of Mearls & the people who pushed for an edition to save the physical TTRPG from being shelved.
Does anyone else remember that scene in the Poseidon Adventure, where the main character group sees a massive group of survivors going in a direction and the herd won’t listen to the folks who know where the way out is. It feels like us OSR people are watching the herd chase after a path that doesn’t lead to salvation.
I run our campaign on Talespire, over discord now. Divorced from WotC as much as possible, but can't leave the 5e system entirely because the guys just won't have it. I just don't throw my time or money in WotC's direction anymore, not for years now.
Oh, you have _no idea_ how hated Walz is in Minnesota. The MN media covers for him and the MN Dems at every turn, and the Twin Cities is entirely captured Dem territory, but outstate? Nope. HATED. He's governor here because we have our own version of Chicago politics (which is fitting, given the history of the two urban areas). "Overnight from the Iron Range" is MN's version of the 3am Bump that pushes MN Dems into office consistently, such that it's still considered a fluke or a miracle that we had Ventura at all (and all that Uniparty talk was evident in his time as governor; still the best we'd had in almost 30 years). And if you wonder why things went to shit here, it's because MN is where much of American Scandinavia lies (along with Wisconsin and parts of Michigan) so how it went down in Sweden is how it went down here. This reminds of like Disney Lucas Film would announce 12 new films, and I'd think, "None of this will ever get made," and none of them ever got made. Announcing you're not making things, that should be easier, but they'll still f--k it up. People and organizations come up with these big stupid plans all the time, and it's like no, what you're really going to do is d--k around for a few years, fail every step of the way, realize you'll never stop failing if you keep it up, and then quietly abandon the whole thing for a new big stupid plan. WotC is going to make all this VTT crap for the fake geek girls who pretend to play their game, not appreciating that this demographic doesn't play video games, and will find any reason they can to not subscribe. The people who actually do play the game do so as a way to hang out, they need a virtual version of D&D as much as guys who meet on Friday to play cards need virtual poker apps. It puts the cart before the horse, and acts like the thing you do when you hang out is what matters most, and you can just cut the whole hanging out part away.
They struck the people who were given the new book and specifically asked to promote. It's a right hand not talking to the left that caused this problem.

The moment I first realized they were letting other companies take over the merch, maps, and minis market with them not getting even a cut I was utterly blown away. They got a real brain trust going on over there, letting such a huge opportunity go to waste. Massive gap in the market they couldn't capitalize on at all, now they want to do so through a digital product they can have a true company store style monopoly over. Sad thing is, it will probably work. MTG Arena makes bank despite its MANY flaws and blatant cheating deck shuffler.

Josh Shaprios Race probably played a role in the decision but Walz won in his district in 2016 while his district was won by trump by double digits, meaning many voters voted for trump and for walz, so he appeals to potential trump voters. The scandal with the woman’s stabbing death being ruled a suicide by Shapiro also affected the decision. I think a lot more went into the decision than just his race

If I do not have the ability to homebrew whatever I want, I will not play. I also am not going to be strong armed by some player that think just because they can buy a option they get to play it. I am also not going to be strong armed into playing the game how WotC wants me to play.

What's most hilarious, is that they TTRPG players to suddenly shift games and go all-in, on a platform they haven't even finished making yet. Hasbro also seems to want players to commit to microtransactions, before they even start playing.

VTT may be good at fights. But honestly the 4th edition was more appropriate for such treatment. It was very tactical rpg, with a lot of interesting fights and almost none role play mechanics. 5th edition is opposite, we have a lot of fun role playing with simple fight mechanics. So for me VTT is completely useless with current and future edition. You know for what I would like to have VTT? To Polish rpg Neuroshima: Postapokaliptyczna gra fabularna. Check it out and see how what is Polish take on apocalypse in the USA. Why, because its mechanics are non intuitive and I had to simplified theme for my players.

VTT will premiere no matter what, whether it's wanted or not - just don't sign up for it. those shills and their fanbois don't need our support, either - just don't like, sub, or comment and they'll be gone soon enough. so long as 5e and earlier, purer sources are available (legally or otherwise), what's left of the community will survive until another corporation buys D&D from the soon-to-be-bankrupt hasbro (rinse lather repeat)...

Well, that's what their proposed OGL revision was trying to do, but the backlash was so severe they had to go the other way and made the 5e rules Creative Commons. So they are going to have a very hard time stopping people now.
