When I went to college years ago, I took a class and affirmative action was the subject. Most people of white ethnicity blamed affirmative action for many things. These views so blew my mind. At the time, I was going to college and starting a business. I am a Hispanic woman and could not secure financing for my business. There was a young white girl accusing minorities of coming to this country and getting financial support for minorities to start businesses. That's when I could not keep quiet. The last thing I remember telling the class was “ that to get rid of affirmative action, the Federal and state laws needed to outlaw racism, and that would be the day blacks and minorities would not need the protections that affirmative action offered minorities and that I would probably be dead many decades before that happened. And this was like 20 years ago. I am not surprised, as the Republicans have been working towards this outcome for many, many years.

This ruling and others are consequences of not voting. It is frustrating trying to convince people that voting matters, that our fore parents shed blood to secure our futures, and that some of us spit on their sacrifice by not simply voting or voting against our self-interest. When I went to college years ago, I took a class and affirmative action was the subject. Most people of white ethnicity blamed affirmative action for many things. These views so blew my mind. At the time, I was going to college and starting a business. I am a Hispanic woman and could not secure financing for my business. There was a young white girl accusing minorities of coming to this country and getting financial support for minorities to start businesses. That's when I could not keep quiet. The last thing I remember telling the class was “ that to get rid of affirmative action, the Federal and state laws needed to outlaw racism, and that would be the day blacks and minorities would not need the protections that affirmative action offered minorities and that I would probably be dead many decades before that happened. And this was like 20 years ago. I am not surprised, as the Republicans have been working towards this outcome for many, many years.

This ruling and others are consequences of not voting. It is frustrating trying to convince people that voting matters, that our fore parents shed blood to secure our futures, and that some of us spit on their sacrifice by not simply voting or voting against our self-interest. Which in some ways is even worse.
