I'm from Chicagoland area. It was absolutely wonderful just totally unreplaceable. Keep going keep going everybody
Really enjoyed hearing your opinion. As an American who's really into hard dance, it can be tough. In San Bernadino (Near LA) they had a festival with a hardstyle tent so I drove 8 hours with a couple buddies just to hit it up. I was supposed to go to Defqon.1 last year and I remember doing outfit research and being like woah, I can wear bike shorts and a sports bra? Chill. On the opposite end I had a friend from Norway who came to the US for college and this girl was so happy to dress up and go to dubstep shows over here. She did do a lot of drugs lmao
I chuckled over your comment about shorts and sports bra. Like the outfit difference is so huge between US and Europe I can just imagine how it comes as a suprise Europeans are so casual. I go to hard dance events all the time and shorts + sports bra is my go-to outfit as well. My american friend just told me how she was prepared not to shuffle in EDCO because her outfit would fall apart. I was confused like why would you prioritize your outfit over comfort (to dance).
I’m really trying to organize events right now in Chicago to bring back that hard dark acid style that was created in the city. Obviously I’m not throwing anything because of Covid. But I’m trying to set up a team of organizers to really get the ball rolling once things settle. America doesn’t really have that grime and grit the European scene has. I feel that people yern for that shit in America. But rave culture in America has been taken over by capitalistic venture. So now everybody who raves is paying $350 to go to electric forest or Coachella or something. And those events have its culture spill into the underground, so now everything feels like you’re going to a Coachella event or Lallapaluza or whatever. I feel like people in America go to raves so that they can post shit on social media being like oh look at me I’m so cool going to an underground thing. I was born in 97 so I have never in my life experienced what the 90s and 2000s rave culture was. However, the more I dig into the history of it the more I am revved up to create a scene that re-creates PLUR like it was in the 90s and 00’s. I guess what I’m saying is there’s so much elitism in American rave culture right now, and people who really care about the scene need to organize fast so this culture isn’t killed by our greed. (Also I totally blame yuppie New-York club kids for ruining American rave culture. They brought the money, elitism, and judgement to the scene.) This is just my two cents, I could go for days talking about rave culture I think it’s fascinating.
Yea nothing like the early 2000s... I don't even care for parties anymore even though I know all the promoters/djs and never have to pay. Lol I sound jaded. Edit : from NYC
Hey bud so I’m from Manchester England, if you do get this event off the ground let me know. I’m 31 and I’ve been involved in throwing underground parties and DJ’ing around the North of England since I left school. I only say this because I’m moving too Portland Maine this august and I’m really disheartened about the scene being so different over in the US. Would love to swing by your party and maybe even help out.
Thanks for this, I had a feeling I might not enjoy european raves due to the heavy technohouse genre influence and this confirms it. I'll be looking for big room house, hardstyle and psytrance specific clubs since thats probably the only genres i can probably vibe with.
Psytrance in Europe is huge. Usually held in underground not regulated venues (forests, warehouses, squatted office building). Deco and soundsystems are really really good. A lot of freedom, a lot of drugs, no chance of being bounced at the line, like the girl is mentioning, that is a Berlin only thing. The whole experience is priceless.
Really cool video! I moved to the US from Europe recently and I was shocked how different the rave culture is. Basically it feels so fake, and forced - that’s my main problem
Creamfields in UK on Saturday goes from 2pm-4am. I've done this + it's mad how some of us still going crazy, freezing super cold. Please rave more in the UK, you won't find plur here, our plur is basically being nice to everyone, we take of each other + everyone knows there place, be rude to someone + you'll just get thrown out haha. Our bouncers in UK are a light nicer than Berlin, my local is Ministry of Sound + I know many of the security/bouncers there, they speak to me nicely + still remember be 6 years later haha ! We have a thing though were most "ravers" will go to an event + take photos of themselves, like a photoshoot - I call it "For The Gram" haha ! That what makes our raving experience a lil bad, you're trying to enjoy your night but from your side you got a group of girls taking photos/selfies in different poses.. We have rave chants too which I don't think US has "Whoop there it is", "Hey... Oh..", "Alan." (The latter is funny, someone tried to find their friend years ago + we now just say it out loud leaving festivals/clubs haha !
By the way the difference between techno and house music is that techno has a pounding texture to it house has a straight Base Line Lakes truck from a string almost.
yes thats the proper term and in american terminology it means hard hitting lmfaoooo. Like they call it a nasty bass drop and jam to it or if something hits really hard they'll say disgusting... So unless you are going for that, you might wanna just say "it sounds like shit"
Great video. Too bad she missed out on the _psychedelic rave culture_ in Europe. I never seen or even heard about anything as psytrance in North America. Although there's a lot of psytrance events in South America and other parts of the world, like Israel - just ignoring this part seem like a total miss!
Im an american and i was in europe for a few years. American Rave culture is just stupid. Call me an elist or whatever but the shows they have going over there are just way more memorable to me... plus i just love trance, techno and house.
In France we called it "Free Party" because it's illegal and you can only go if you know someone of a sound system, you know where is the Free at the last moment by phone message. There is no rules except ,respect every people, don't sell shity dope and have a very family atmosphere. It's an Musical Anarchist Culture you can only find it in european campaigns. Our music is different compared to other European countries it's more Acidcore, Tribe and Tribecore, Hardcore, Acid/TeKno.. etc. Have fun if someday you go in Europe and check on sound cloud some Europeans Artists. Try Enko Hydrokick Leks A5KM Harry Potar and more !
As a German i think that American „rave“ culture is just weird mostly because all I’ve seen is housetechno or dbd and I’m just more into Hardtechno and all that stuff. Also American rave culture is so colorfully and they trade stuff and I think that’s just weird 😭
Trading stuff and being happy making friends at events is weird? Colour is weird? No you're the weird one for thinking that something positive is that weird. typical European elitist
The europeans going harder is just true. Ive been to a 10 hour festival in Europe and see the people who go ghere try to club and then having hours long drug fueled after parties.
I don't know if they are still going but around 10 years back there used to be raves in Berlin going round the clock for weeks on end during summer in abandoned warehouses.
Yeah this just confirmed that I don't think I'm ready for a European rave, esp Berlin rave. Lemme just get some more experience with them first cuz I don't wanna seem like an outsider.
After this video I feel like if I was going clubbing I would want to go to Europe for the more casual clothes and the all day all night no one cares vibe.. but US music festivals for meeting people and such
You have been to Berghain, huh? I live in (southern) Germany and never heard of a bouncer as strict as at Berghain. Have been to several clubs and raves but never had any strict bouncer. Most psytrance raves don't even have one. And that leads me to a question: Is there a big psy scene somewhere in the United States?
I wish we had more euro influence in the USA, I personally cannot stand the rave scene here. It seems that most people go to be seen/see people, not to dance or experience the music. Also I can’t stand American dubstep lol, the non-rhythmic buildup snares leading into nothing are beyond frustrating. I feel like I should do some semesters abroad
this is very insightful! i would love to visit berlin and see what you mean! i am not sure why some americans love to hate on certain subgenres. if you love the music and are an avid festival goer than you should also learn to appreciate and love all kinds of styles of it/the different ways the festivals or events are hosted! after all, you are right-we are all there for the same reason at the end of the day! although, knowing me and my luck, i would most likely be the one to get turned away at the door the first time trying to go though hahaha.
thanks danielle! & so well said, i've seriously never understood people who bash so hard on other subgenres hahah obviously you're allowed to have different tastes but people can be brutal about them 💀
Definitely plur in Europe it’s just that it’s matured as part of culture. Any one old enough to know “ second summer of love” knows the counter couture and scene those values and ideas came from. Also trance… so many more crazy ass trance and grabber lol not common in the states.
I wish you had gone raving in America in the 90’s, that way you would know how much you’re missing with this. We were as stoked to see Aphrodite and Carl Cox as we were to see Bad Boy Bill and DJ Craze. We were all taking Doves and Mitsubishis. Biased, but I think America produced better dancers. I can keep going on and on, but the similarities were the drugs and the music.
Who gives a toss who dances better it's about the times. Free party scene in UK and Holland. Lived in Leiden ppt/centraal for a time and we had Spiral Tribe play the roof of the squat. UK Castlemorton 92 is our Woodstock. Been to USA and it is about dancing rather than free parties.
I agree with you there are a lot of things that are none is non compatible or very weird or strange or odd issues between the 2 but ultimately it's all stupid I hate to say it..
That is so funny,(in a Really Good way)! I was offered the chance to go to Germany in the late 70s(U.S.Army)but I said no because I had a gf(she broke-up w/me). So the movie 1517hrs to Paris when the guys went to that club(I think that was Amsterdam)was not all that misrepresented! I raved in Denver Colorado in the 90s and I thought it was pretty wild, but you are Spot-on about everything you said! I actually saw the live UA-cam broadcasts last year of the month-long(Thu-Sun)festival in Germany(it may have been Ikarus or similar)because I had surgery and was home for a month recovering. I stopped going in Denver near the turn of the century because of drug addiction and I'm getting old now so I'm good with sobriety. But Thank you so much for telling us all that! It's really cool that you had the chance to go overseas! God's Peace ✌️ to you and your friends!❤🙂
I followed the Disco Biscuits here in America and watched dubstep ruin our speakers. It sounds like normal people just like to go out and dance in the UK. At the end of the day that is why I went to those things. American shows and festivals are more of a trip, more of an alternate reality or extreme temporary autonomous zone. I think other countries are more mature than America. We are only 300 years old or so. We are like snobby teenagers who still dont realize how dumb we are. Time can only move so fast though.

In spain we do "parkineo" where people hang out in a parking lot usually nearby a club blasting techno music from a car before or after getting in the club
Dubstep was big in the UK like 15 years ago. its where it started.
Dubstep is not rave
@@darrenrobertc3238 He never said dubstep was rave, he said 15 years ago dubstep was bigger and you had more events like that.
also rave isn’t a genre of music.
Yeah she is a bit late for dubstep in the UK tbh
Yeah before it went over to America and made really really shit

Alle Deutschen wissen das sie in ✨Berghain✨ war.
Sticking the sticker over the camera is only the case in Berghain, because it is a very special techno club where not everyone is allowed in and is therefore mysterious. That is also one of the reasons why it is so popular. Some also keep the stickers to show others that they were in Berghain. The Germans will understand what I mean.
Berghain
Griessmühle
Wilde renate
Watergate
Anomalie
Ritter Butzke
Revier Südost
Mensch Meier
Burg Schnabel
Polygon
Oxy Club
Osthafen
Kater Blau
Syssiphos
Cosmo
It‘s every berlin club, NOT berghain only
I used to spin parties in the early 90s all the way to 2000. It was most wonderful time of my life. I made a lot of friends and change my life forever. Don't know what to say to new partygoers.
Are you going next year to defqon.1? I’m going too :)
I have never seen a techno party in The Netherlands where not at least 80% of the people are on XTC. The others are on coke, speed or GHB.
Loved this video Bebe! I think it's awesome that they take your phone away. Output in Brooklyn used to do that and I loved it.
Emma Kapotes yessss creates a completely different experience !! i love it too
It annoys me that nyc shuts down party at 4 am to kill the vibes
Lol you're not going to the right parties...
Surprising you say that you couldn't find dubstep in London. Tends to be mixed in with UKG nights then end up seeing a dj playing old-skool dubstep
I am american and i love drum & bass.
Good girl MASSIVE LOVE from the UK 😉👊
You and me both
I’m really trying to organize events right now in Chicago to bring back that hard dark acid style that was created in the city.
Like I don’t want to shit on the American scene but it was something else before it became so capitalized.
Im from Muskegon, 3 hours north of you. We need more Drumnbass out here.
In europe, we rave in forest, u wont find. untz untz untz untz untz
also, psytance.
Thanks for this, I had a feeling I might not enjoy european raves due to the heavy technohouse genre influence and this confirms it. I'll be looking for big room house, hardstyle and psytrance specific clubs since thats probably the only genres i can probably vibe with.
there is lots of hardstyle in holland!
There used to be a huge dnb scene in NYC. Back In the early 2000s you could find a dnb party every night of the week.
Dubstep and future bass is just disgusting
yes thats the proper term and in american terminology it means hard hitting lmfaoooo. Like they call it a nasty bass drop and jam to it or if something hits really hard they'll say disgusting... So unless you are going for that, you might wanna just say "it sounds like shit"
How could you not love it LOL idgi
@@Jeffdachefz as a dubstep fan this is very true
If a hear a dubstep song that is hard hitting I call it filthy
Great video. Too bad she missed out on the _psychedelic rave culture_ in Europe. I never seen or even heard about anything as psytrance in North America. Although there's a lot of psytrance events in South America and other parts of the world, like Israel - just ignoring this part seem like a total miss!
Im an american and i was in europe for a few years. American Rave culture is just stupid. Call me an elist or whatever but the shows they have going over there are just way more memorable to me... plus i just love trance, techno and house.
Hahaha we have candy but it fore a trip to a other planet 😂😂🍬
European psy trance events are very special; no rubbish, no fuck-boys, no cheese
Try Enko
Hydrokick
Leks
A5KM
Harry Potar and more !
As a German i think that American „rave“ culture is just weird mostly because all I’ve seen is housetechno or dbd and I’m just more into Hardtechno and all that stuff. Also American rave culture is so colorfully and they trade stuff and I think that’s just weird 😭
As an American I think your weird for thinking that's weird, 🥰
Trading stuff and being happy making friends at events is weird? Colour is weird? No you're the weird one for thinking that something positive is that weird. typical European elitist
The europeans going harder is just true. Ive been to a 10 hour festival in Europe and see the people who go ghere try to club and then having hours long drug fueled after parties.
This was so interesting! My boyfriend always tells me about how different clubs are in Berlin. Hoping to experience it soon!
it's an incredible experience especially for techno heads !! i'm hoping to get back over there soon :)
4h30 closing time? You what now? xD 4h30 is the peak!
I used to go to Glasshouse in Leeds, which started at 4 am lol. America sounds shit for raves.
I don't know if they are still going but around 10 years back there used to be raves in Berlin going round the clock for weeks on end during summer in abandoned warehouses.
Great video! I'm moving from Canada to Britain next year, was wondering what the main differences were :)
CRMSN best of luck !! i’m sure you will love it (besides the weather hahaha)
Hmu I’ll
Show you the way
Yeah this just confirmed that I don't think I'm ready for a European rave, esp Berlin rave. Lemme just get some more experience with them first cuz I don't wanna seem like an outsider.
After this video I feel like if I was going clubbing I would want to go to Europe for the more casual clothes and the all day all night no one cares vibe.. but US music festivals for meeting people and such
i definitely prefer europe clubs!
There is a lot of racism in the US rave scene, but many I have gone to were cool, but far too many have this problem, also fighting.
Europe is way better
You should come check out Teknival's sometime, or the freeparty culture in The Netherlands and Belgium.
And France dude
this is very insightful! i would love to visit berlin and see what you mean! i am not sure why some americans love to hate on certain subgenres. if you love the music and are an avid festival goer than you should also learn to appreciate and love all kinds of styles of it/the different ways the festivals or events are hosted! after all, you are right-we are all there for the same reason at the end of the day!
although, knowing me and my luck, i would most likely be the one to get turned away at the door the first time trying to go though hahaha.
thanks danielle!
Also trance… so many more crazy ass trance and grabber lol not common in the states.
you would be blown away by a rave in newcastle , england in 1988 ! you would love it .
Very cool! Thanks for taking about this! 😊 I’ve always wondered the differences and hope to experience European raves some day 😊
highly recommend :)
Wait dubstep is still a thing in the States?
It’s been
It's nice to see an American in to rave culture if in the UK give me a shout I'll go stomping with you 👍
I wish you had gone raving in America in the 90’s, that way you would know how much you’re missing with this.
Everything is a competition in America. Progress vs accepted mediocrity.
@@aaronherd3928 So maybe it was better back in the days in the US, but in Europe we progressed and went better nowadays
Fk the 90's early 2000 raves had the best dj's
I agree with you there are a lot of things that are none is non compatible or very weird or strange or odd issues between the 2 but ultimately it's all stupid I hate to say it..
What is the club in New York you were referring to that’s similar to Tresor?
Imagine raving to dubstep like calm down skrillex phahahahhahahaha
BTW this was a really good video I just can’t imagine bringing beaded bracelets and trading them while head banging to dubstep haha.
Dubstep and dnb underground in UK.
UK drug culture made it that way.
You can hear the ketamine influence when you listen to older proper dubstep like mala and distance etc.
now you're invited to rave in mexico lol
private is mostly germany tho in the netherlands never hapend to me
Thunderdome is on my mind😭
What is thunderdome ? I’ve been to a festival called that in Washington in the states and it was a dubstep festival ran by dj Excision
@@kimmyqtt yeah it's an dubstep based event
Hahaha noobs. Thunderdome has been a hardcore / gabber label from The Netherlands since the early 90s including massive parties
Britain - Better DJs, better parties.
I know you talking bout The Mirage at Avant Gardner in Brooklyn lol last summer I was basically there every weekend till ezoo
ayyy yes new york fam 🙏
I followed the Disco Biscuits here in America and watched dubstep ruin our speakers. It sounds like normal people just like to go out and dance in the UK. At the end of the day that is why I went to those things. American shows and festivals are more of a trip, more of an alternate reality or extreme temporary autonomous zone. I think other countries are more mature than America. We are only 300 years old or so. We are like snobby teenagers who still dont realize how dumb we are. Time can only move so fast though.
Oh and bro. The world is a better place with more DnB. Drums.ro all day.
Go to Nelson Ledges In Garretsville Ohio.
the rave scene there goes hard til sunrise
nice video bro
teknival, freetekno . you should experience some of that in europe if you like rave. da real shit. fuck the club.
this was super interesting

New Dubstep is horrific, that’s why u don’t hear it here!
Listen to some jungle, dnb and breakbeat hardcore (I got a jungle dnb mix on my page)

Trust me pal I rather hear new dubstep then DnB
