I am a retired Deputy Sheriff and also worked as a Bailiff. Plea deals are almost always offered so it's the norm, regardless of the crime, perp or victim. Elected judges don't want to irk the voting public with jury trials so they do everything they can to settle the cases. Initially most defendants plea not guilty with settlement conferences to follow where most cases are just that. I didn't like the process and was relieved when my Bailiff duty was finished.
There's a difference between giving a plea deal and letting people who assaulted a cop walk out of the jail free. It's a felony. You sound woke
