It is unlikely that the eggs will hatch at this point. We have no way of knowing why. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.
When eggs don’t hatch, Jackie and Shadow may start withdrawing from incubation eventually (they usually over incubate for several weeks, details can be found in our Activity Log). Withdrawal is always a process and it happens gradually with longer and longer breaks. Shadow may be a little bit more stubborn than Jackie (this is something we have observed in the past). Left unattended, the eggs may eventually be scavenged by ravens or other animals. The nest cameras are live 24/7/366 weather and maintenance permitting.

That was funny. I don't think I've ever seen Shadow startled like that but he was indeed ready to protect those eggs. Might he have been a little embarrassed and Jackie seemed a little apologetic. Hope they both and all of you have SED tonight.
Hi! I’ve been a Jackie and Shadow fan for over a year now, but still don’t know what SED means when it’s in the chat. Usually I’m pretty good at guessing acronyms, but this one has stumped me for forever! And the idea of Shadow feeling embarrassed is just too cute!

I saw this in real time. It was so interesting that he was caught completely unaware. I’ve got to believe that it is a rare occurrence for an eagle to be surprised like that!
Plus I do think she realized she scared him! Haha
@taniastendepnp yes, and it was dark...I know they don't see as well in darkness, just like most humans...I'd be startled too if I was Shadow! 💕

this was so funny, Shadow was so caught up in what he was doing that he didn't even hear her coming, then he refused to recovery and afterwards Jackie was trying to be so quiet she refused to even put her foot back down. "Im sorry, I'm sorry" he wouldn't even look at her. Then he just flies off. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 typical male. 🤣🤣🤣 I love these majestic birds. ❤

Shadow happily piddling with moving and twisting the fluff in close… This is people’s version of daydreaming, I think. Poor sweet Shadow went straight to the Dadbrella, but was too startled to even collapse it, at first. Jackie’s sweet talk finally convinced him. I think Jackie felt a little bad for Shadow, too - she was extra gentle in getting him to go.

I am new, I just started watching Jackie and Shadow this year and I can’t tell you how much I love them! I look forward to watching them every day for so many reasons. Poor guy! He was so involved in his usual rearranging & fluffing he didn't know Jackie was anywhere around! And he did not appreciate being scared like that. Poor Jackie was trying to apologize but he wasn't ready to hear it yet. Whatcha bet he brings a gigantic limb back to her and leave it to her to figure out where to place it (not that it'll matter because as we all know, Shadow will rearrange it). These two have my heart❤

That was so cute, poor Shadow😂. I Love these two so much. I’m pretty sure they both think out of 3 eggs, that at least 1 will hatch. This is why they haven’t given up yet. I believe they died the first week of March during the 2nd snow storm. Jackie turned the 🥚 and her right wing caught up on a branch for several hours during the night. You could see her legs, the 🥚 were exposed to the freezing air. I worried at the time, but I think that’s when we lost them. So sad for our sweet 🦅🦅
It really breaks my heart to see how tender they are with these eggs. I know it's too late for a miracle, I accepted that last year when it happened. But it still upsets me. I love Jackie and Shadow and I even still watch the skies for Spirit (my first). ❤❤❤
My favorite moment was at timestamp 19:18:47, when Shadow gives a little shake of his head as if to say, “Jeeze, Jackie, what the heck? 😒Next time give a warning call or something…” 🤨

Perhaps Shadow was lost in a "daydream" or lost in thought.....otherwise it would be improbable for another eagle especially Jackie, to surprise him to that extent. Just a theory.

I’m sure that there are a few orphaned eaglets around somewhere. Perhaps the cameraman could hike up there and do a swicheroo. This couple will be very happy to raise babies.

He was in his decorating zen rearranging the straw and she blew in with a whole different energy that he wasn't ready for lol He didn't know what was attacking him but he covered the eggs anyway. I love how confused she seems by the whole thing, like "Honey, it's just me. What in the heck are you on about?" She just doesn't relate to his decorating spirit. Him got skillz.

It must be so nice to snuggle down in that warm nest and get toasty toes! Imagine sleeping every night on a tree branch on one foot in the wind, rain, snow and, the other day, hail! I wouldn’t want to give up the nest either 😂
