Did you understand the lyrics. Neil Peart, the drummer, R.I.P., had a hard time dealing with fame. He did not like the adulation or worship of Rock Stars. And he wrote the song to explain how he felt. "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend.!" It creeped him out when a fan would come up to him like the knew each other for years.
Geddy Lee's existence is a story in and of itself. His parents were both Holocaust survivors. They met each other as teenagers in Poland, in a 'Jew town' ghetto. From there they were transported to Auschwitz and later both went on to other camps. After the war they reunited in a displaced persons camp and moved, as refugees, to Canada. Geddy's real name is Gary, but his grandmother, who also survived, had a thick Yiddish accent and called him Geddy, which became his nickname. When Neal Peart heard about Geddy's parents' Holocaust survival, he sat and talked with Geddy's mom. This inspired him to write a song called Red Sector A. It's intense. It's musically brilliant. The lyrics are so potent. I have watched numerous Holocaust movies and read several books about it. And yet, I find this song to be the most difficult to revisit. I don't remember which show it was, but there's a live performance of this that's pretty mind-blowing. Anyway, thanks for this reaction. Glad you're enjoying your 'Rush' journey. All the best!
The performance clips came from the promotional videos for their 1977 album A Farewell To Kings; the shot with Geddy holding the double neck bass was from Xanadu. And yes, Alex and his guitar beautifully brought out the full range of emotions that Neil put into his lyrics; if you think that you're ready for 2112, I recommend the comic book video, which includes the lyrics, and an amazingly emotional guitar solo in Part 6. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Yeah, it is always easy to pick out a Rush song , his voice is unique, no one else has a voice like his!!❤❤ I learned their music from my husband’s collection of 70’s music, great stuff!! Awesome reaction!!👏👏🎵🎶
have been a rush fan since the 80's, have always considered neil to be the best drummer ever, and geddy is just a multi talented beast. but it wasnt until i started watching reactions that i realized what a great guitarist that that alex is. top tier!
RUSH is special. You can say a lot of things about this band, but the simplest way to describe them is they are special. They are Very Special. They’ve been around for decades and have a deep catalog so you have a lot to check out.
I feel Blessed that I was able to see these next level Musicians several times during my life! Neils Lyrics taught me So much and were so Inspiring! " You can live in Grace and Comfort in the World that You Transform"🥲 AMAZING BAND! Much Love to my Friend Dan Statler who turned me on to RUSH in 1974 when I was just 13! Going on 50 years of appreciation for one of my All time, Favorite bands!👍 Live at the Hollywood Bowl in California on a warm summer night,,, Perfection!🥰 Mike in San Diego.🌞🎸🚀🖖
When he's playing the keyboards, the pedals act as a Bass guitar. It shows different clips of him playing a Bass in one video and playing Keyboards in another. It depends on the song they are playing whether he plays a Bass guitar, or keyboards. The 60s Band "The Doors," had no Bass guitar player, except in studio recording sessions. Ray Manzeric played Bass on the pedals of the keyboards.
I love the sound of Neil Peart's cymbal stops. This video shows them so well. Did he call the other song Eczema?? among his many attempts. Yes, he did. Lmao at that.😅 Xanadu - pron. Zan-a-do just as Geddy sings it in the song.
Great to see you are enjoying your RUSH journey so far!!!!. Great reactions!!! I would definitely recommend the following list in continuing upon your Rush journey: - Working Man...Live in Cleveland from 2011 (original studio version was in 1974)...The pure sight and performance of three men in their upper 50's take control of the stage and perform and play like they were in their 20's. - YYZ...Live from Rio 2002 - original was 1981 - RIO WAS ROCKIN!!!! - Best Intro Ever - Live version (R30 tour 2004) - various intros from their 1970's songs leading into Spirit of Radio - original was 1980 - Closer to the Heart (Live 1998 Different Stages) - original was 1977 - Subdivisions...studio version or live version - original was 1982 - Freewill...studio version or live version - original was 1980 - Fly by Night - original was 1975 - Leave that Thing Alone - Live 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental) - original was 1993 - La Villa Strangiato - Live 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental - custom "carnival" intro) - original was 1978 - 2112 - original was 1976 - Also...Neil Peart's Drum Solo Live from Frankfurt 2004. He was The Professor...a pure musician and percussionist...not just a "drummer". Be ready to be amazed by not just his hand coordination...but most of all his foot coordination...basically his feet being completely individual in timing from his hands during segments of this performance. He was the master of this technique.
Hello AB, here's a new band to check out, if interested. "Supertramp - Breakfast in America (Live in Paris 1979)" --Supertramp was a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. They experienced they're greatest global success in 1979 with their sixth album "Breakfast in America" I think you will really enjoy this band, AB. They have lots of great albums to explore. This album I suggested you start with "Breakfast in America" was released in 1979 and it did very well on the charts. It was number one on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart for six weeks, and it produced three US Billboard hit singles...In otherwards the whole album is a Banger (ear candy🍬)
Been a Rush fan since the late 70's. IMHO Neil Pert RIP is by far one of the best drummers ever. His drum sole in Frankfurt is amazing. Got to check it out.
😂 You are officially Cartman from South Park and I "Respect your Authori-Tay!!!" 😍 And that just makes me love you more! Looking forward to more Rush Reactions! 🥰🐰
Been waiting for this after your reaction to Tom Sawyer. Saw Rush in ‘83 - 14th row at The Omni in Atlanta and they were freaking once. My ears rang for two days afterward.
Just to answer your question AB, the answer is NO, they never miss!!! Also, Geddy Lee is the only singer in the band and Neil Peart, who is on the drums, is the lyricist for all the songs! They stopped performing as a band in 2015, after 40 years together and 20 studio albums. Next up, "The Analog Kid".☮️
Rush has some really long songs, like 2112, The Necromancer, Hemispheres, that with todays short attention spans might not hit with everyone. But the next video by Rush you should watch is YYZ live from Rio.

Geddy is AMAZING!!!!❤
Geddy plays bass keys and sings. He uses foot bass pedals when he's playing keys . Cool eh !!!!

That's why Rush is so amazing, only 3 guys to make that music. Limelight is my favorite. R.I.P. Neil Peart.

Its impossible not to pull the 'stank face' to Alex lifesons guitar solos.

Reppin canada! Love Rush!
Rush has some really long songs, like 2112, The Necromancer, Hemispheres, that with todays short attention spans might not hit with everyone.
But the next video by Rush you should watch is YYZ live from Rio.
More Rush !!!
This song is good, but Freewill is better in every way. Moving Pictures tour 1981.
Still get a kick of seeing Geddy sitting behind home plate of Toronto Blue Jays games.
Being as how I'm new to your channel, I haven't gotten through all your videos yet.
Have you done any for Dio?
Working man is a must
Gods
I have a feeling the number 2112 is in your future. 😁
Bro for Halloween you should react to Rush "Witch Hunt" Totally underrated song!
It is pronounced Zan-a-do 😊
Xanadu is pronounced “Zan-uh-doo”, just like the Olivia Newton John movie…
Just. 3. People. (!)
Sounds like ZANADU
"xanadu" is pronounced "za na doo"
total domain
Definitely a BAD A$$ BAND
do distant early warning
test for echo alive urgent
Dude, it's pronounced "zanadoo".
If you like Geddy, check out the pipes on the group Boston. The song More than a feeling!
