      Any tips for a 42 year old rookie beer league goalie? I'm having a terrible time with the start of my games. Halfway through the game I'm playing great. I never played organized ice hockey. I'm far from a good skater. Last 3 games I gets lit up for 4 or 5 goals then shuts the door for the rest of the game.

    This was the most amazing educational video I've seen ❤ love the way you explain each shot and the multiple angles. Definitely a huge insight for being a beginner and seeing what to do and not do and how to improve 🙏 that deserves a sub

    Cool on your coach for sayin' wassup. You played well. Only thing to say is try not to get caught up in what tier your opponent's team is at or how good the opposition player's are. Play to your motto: the puck stops here. Play w/ confidence, develop mental fortitude, & reach that lvl where you challenge the shooters to beat you like you expect to save everything. You got the fundies down + plenty of natural skillz. Master the mental game & you gonna be ascending to new heights.

    You had some great saves. Some pretty lazy back check by your team on some of those goals 😁

    Sam that was a tough game. In regards to the poke check, I agree with Nick that if you can do it, it could work. However, from what I saw, the shooter was still to far away. Once you commit, you're out of position. Also, on that same play, your D-man looked like he was out for a Sunday stroll. He needs to pressure the shooter so that you can limit his options. I hope you guys win the next one. I love the pads. Thanks for uploading the vid!

    Good game Sam. Great looking True set. Seemed like you played well in them. Not too different from your CCM pads besides the rebounds and stiffness. Glad to see your posting again.

    The True 12.2 catch glove is one of the best feeling off the shelf gloves I’ve ever put on my hand. If I had not just bought new Premier II’s right before Covid I’d be switching to Trues.

    Great video Sam ! I am gonna be ordering a custom set of the true L.12.2 gear soon, can’t wait to use it next season. What break was the glove you were using? I think i am gonna get a 590, my current glove is a ccm premier pro 2 with a 590 break. I am thinking the 590 L.12.2 glove is gonna be quite similar, cause my entire premier pro 2 set was also made by lefevre 😊 And how did you like the pads? They weren´t too stiff? I am getting mine with the outer and inner break so they have a little bit of flexibility.

    I can tell you this from my v9 set. It is much stiff in comparison to my v7 rx and Bauer nxg set. It taken me three games to kinda get us to them. I do love them a lot. I must admit I came very close buying Ccm eflex 5.

      I would say the sooner the better when it comes to playing goal. It can take quite a toll on your body at first since it's a very different way of moving than just about everything else, so as you get older it becomes a lot harder to get starting without tearing something or causing joint damage. Also STRETCH! Very important! But yeah, I hear ya, I got my first set of pads a little bit out of high school, and my mom didn't really have much faith in me either. Here I am, ten years later, still playing and one of the better goalies around and my mom even comes out and watches every couple of games. Sometimes, you just gotta say screw it and go for it. Also, watch a crap ton of coaching videos like this one and what some of the professional coaches have to say. It will help a lot to developing your style of play that works for you.

      @@juicemoosehax any stretches you recommend? I wanna play goalie too but im 25 and broke lol. can at least get the stretching started tho

    • @juicemoosehax
      @juicemoosehax 2 роки тому

      @@cannedpineapple2702 The splits are a major one, but really any stretches that work the hips, as well as leg tucks and other stretches that work the knees. Both are the two major areas that will take the most thrashing playing goal. A good stretch you can do that will work both is to kneel on the ground (you'll probably want something soft like carpet or foam padding on the ground) and widen your legs out as far as you can, and lean back as far as you can. Depending on your flexibility, you may want to prop yourself against a wall to start, but eventually the goal should be to lean all the way so your back is against the ground, but your legs are tucked beside you. it will definitely seem awkward at first, but it really helps to get both the hips and knees stretched out.

    If I were you I would recommend trying the Eflex 5.9's. I just bought them a few weeks ago and there's a flat knee roll so the rebounds are WAYY better than the 4.9's.

    When I switched to the Bauer series, which also has the Velcro straps, I was worried too, and they're stiff and slide very easily, but I found they really suit my style. You can really get some distance on pad saves, redirecting them to team mates and even out of the zone.

    That 4th goal isn't really your fault. If you have to make a desperation move backdoor, you shoulkd be able to rely on your D-man to cover the 2nd or 3rd guy coming in.

    How did they compare size wise to your old pads? And what we’re your old pads? (Guessing Eflex)

  • @Jason-zc9on
    @Jason-zc9on 2 роки тому

    good video! It looks like your demo pads were a 32'+2. How tall are you, and what size are your other pads? I'm a little over 5'9 and wear an older Gnetik (33"), but going off the sizing on the True website, I'd be a 31" which sounds crazy. Last time I wore a 31", I was 15 and maybe 5'5''

    I'm gonna disagree with you. That second goal didn't go in because your right leg didn't come over. I think your mistake was that your stick flailed out to the right. Keep your stick on the ice and covering your 5 hole and I think you could've stopped it.
