    Thanks Sage for sharing this video. I am a newly converted to being a vegetarian and reaping the benefits of doing so. It just boils down to I don't enough, I don't take enough calories in a day. So seeing what you consume is a great eye opener. Keep up with the great videos. Cheers!

    I found you through looking up running videos (I ran in high school, now 3 decades later, I'm starting to run again), and then saw that you are on a vegan diet...awesome! You're an inspiration to me....

    Thanks for such a funny, smart, and honest video. I love that part when Sandi said, "No, you have that twice a week!" I've been running since 15 and getting back into it after a little break, and also making that big transition to a plant-based diet so your videos have been very inspirational! Keep those diet videos going because they really keep me going. Those edamame burgers look delicious. Any chance that you or Sandi can share the recipe? You guys should do a plant-base runner's cookbook!

    awesome !!! this is hilarious, we laughed so hard watching this together!! Being a vegan running couple also, we eat pretty much just like you and Sandy and even do the same things, Gwen eats all the ice cream, Katie tries to be much healthier!
    So awesome, keep it up!

    Trick for fast rice put in a microwave safe covered container with small amount of venting then wash rice and finally fill until water is up to first knuckle on index finger when touching the bottom then put in microwave on high for 9-12 min depending on power I us normally do this with 1.5-3 cups of rice to start

  • @Redhawk24

    Lindsey and I eat very similar. I like smoothies because they are easy to digest liquid calories. The 'hardest' part of training for me is eating enough plant-based calories. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

    I love watching what other runners (or fitness people) eat! I have so much fun in my kitchen making new meals, prepping food, etc. It's very relaxing to me and makes me know I am fueling my body with quality, healthy, whole food.
    A question completely off the topic of diet: how do you avoid overuse injuries when you run so much?!? I am in awe.
    Thanks for wonderful content on a wonderful channel. Susan (Loveland, CO)

    Sage I appreciate your videos. I have run for many years-over 25-starting out as a cross country runner in high school. I was never a gifted runner but I know that I always feel so much better and alive once I get into the meat of my run and after. I run in the mornings around 6 am to escape the Texas heat. For many years I ate a bagel and coffee about an hour before I ran. I had problems with gas and bloating but around halfway through my run had more energy. For the past 3 years I have been running on an empty stomach in the morning between 8 and 12 miles sometimes up to 16. I only drink black coffee and some water and am out the door an hour later. I have had mixed results. I don't have the same gas and digestion issues but I experience tightness in my quads-particularly my left quadricep. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Vo2maxProductions
      @Vo2maxProductions  8 років тому +5

      I'd say the quad pain doesn't have to do with your diet. When I ran marathons at Hansons I used to do the same: plain coffee and then straight into a 12-18 mile kind of run/workout. Usually after about 18-20 miles at high intensity I'd need a gel (and then eat a huge brunch afterwards). I'd check shoes/running form for the quad pain.

      I haven't added it up (probably should for the budget). It's quite a bit though. (Is there anything better to invest in though?!...well maybe some stocks with high yield returns). We honestly do buy a lot of organic stuff and it's not cheap. Beans and rice and bananas and a lot of veggies can be pretty affordable for a lot of people though. Aside from the pre-packaged waffles and almond butters and ben and jerry's (quite expensive), the cost can be brought down. We cook and prepare our own meals and don't go out to eat much as well. It certainly helps to also have health food sponsors (i.e. Flora, Ugo Bars, Trail Butter, etc).

    • @veganvixen8690
      @veganvixen8690 8 років тому

      I typically spent about $110-130 biweekly. but I don't buy organic simply because I can't afford it. if its something you want to do, a good hack is to go to your expensive grocery stores and hit up the reduced racks. they often put fruits/veggies on there after 2/3 days even if they're still good. and I also buy bulk when it comes to rice, pasta and beans/peas/lentils. it gets expensive when you start getting into mock meats and cheeses and stuff. but with a little research and creativity you can get what you need on whole foods. but fair warning eat and don't be afraid to eat. haha!!! when I'm training I sometimes can't handle how much food I actually need to eat.

    • @ninjaguy123
      @ninjaguy123 8 років тому

      From my experience, it looks like you're either using your calves muscles too much instead of your gluts and thighs, or maybe your feet position hyper extends your calves. If only one calf hurts, you might have some balance issues as well.
      In short, work on your biomecanics.

    • @evindugas3768
      @evindugas3768 8 років тому

      most people take or sell their calf to the slaughterhouse. unless your young bovine friend has an undying fear of ice water and yoga I think you should resort to different methods. See if there are any humane societies that take in farm animals. Best of luck!
