The Dutch Staten Generaal inspired the senate (except they added lobbying SMH) since the Netherlands were confined of 7 provinces with their own laws but decided together about war/defense/economics to ensure maximum power (we are a small country so needed to work together to be able to really compete in a war/global economics). The same model inspired the American system of seperate states with their own laws presenting themself as a unit to the rest of the world (to fight wars together, see a pattern yet?). Whether that's really due to inspiration or just coincidence ofcourse can't be said 100% sure, but since a lot of Americans came from Europe they sure as hell were familiar with the concept. Oh, and no we are not full of degenerates. Fuck off yourself. At least we have the decency to provide our poor and elderly with a (small) amount of financial support so they can stay alive.

I think that American nationalism has blinded us to the fact that most people are economically worse off today than they were 30 years ago, with the exception of the wealthy, who have become obscenely powerful. And we're constantly redirected toward the image of homeless veterans, and the idea that letting immigrants into the country will hurt these people more. Firstly: No, it fucking won't; and Secondly: the same people who are saying this couldn't give less of a damn about veterans anyway - they're the same people who opposed the 9/11 first responders bill, and the first to throw other people's sons and daughters into harm's way for their own economic benefit.
