20 YEARS OF DEER PARK MONASTERY - SLIDESHOW

2020 marks the 20th Anniversary of Deer Park Monastery in Escondido, Southern California.
Although we were not able to practice and celebrate during our planned and, due to Covid-19 regulations, canceled 20th Anniversary Retreat in August 2020, we know that you are there, and we are very very happy.
In the past 20 years Deer Park has become a refuge for many individuals, sanghas and families. It provided (and still does!) a fertile ground for personal transformation and healing, while the monastic sisters and brothers water(ed) the wholesome seeds in each one walking on this wondrous path of loving kindness, understanding and compassion.
This slideshow is a tribute to our teacher, Venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, or Thay, as we as his disciples call him respectfully. Thay built Deer Park with the help of many devoted, mostly Vietnamese, lay friends in order to help people looking deeply into their suffering, and transforming the mud into a wonderful lotus flower.
May we celebrate many more anniversaries!

I remember when Deer Park was first attained. I went on my first retreat with Thay and Sister Chan Khong in 2001, at UCSD, and we had a "Deer Park Day," where we got in buses and went to Deer Park, which wasn't ready for full retreats yet, for the day. I have been to Deer Park quite a few times since then. I miss Thay and Sister Chan Khong, and I haven't been to Deer Park since 2015, though I have wanted to go since then. I hope to return some day, when the pandemic is over.

I love seeing this and miss being at Deer Park! - I came to Deer Park the day they opened and remember it was just one other guest and one monk at the first dinner up in the kitchen and in some ways it never changed, just more people and buildings lol - Love to you all
