The Mein Herr number was created for the FILM of Cabaret. The song wasn't even in the original Broadway production. Yes, it's now often interpolated into new stage productions, but, either way, it's not an iconic Broadway dance number, it's an iconic film dance number.
Am I going crazy? I think it was shown in this video, as part of demonstrating Bob Fosse's choreography! Though it was not featured as one of the top 10.
@@joshdrayton1230 If you listened to the Description if the dance was adapted for the stage then it could be included otherwise you would have to take “An American in Paris” out as well since it is a film classic that was moved to the stage.
I just saw West Side Story on the stage last night. It was my 6th time seeing it. This is a tough call. Both scenes are iconic for different reasons. In the Dance Hall scene there is that dance-off between the Jets and the Sharks, and Tony meets Maria in a dream-like sequence that has been often paid homage to in many films. Who doesn't remember watching that for the first time? But America captures the heart of the conflict within the Puerto-Rican community - a love-hate relationship with their adopted home - in the most captivating and exciting dance reparte' ever! So they both deserve to be on this list. I am guessing the lists author only wanted one dance number per musical, so she chose accordingly. Bottom line for me is I'd have picked America, more for the lyrics than even the dancing. It is incredibly well written and requires comedic timing to deliver the punch lines accented with the shake of a hip or roll of the head.
Hands down....Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.....the barn raising sequence...breathtaking athleticism and dance clearly tells a story....nothing was ever better.
He did that iconic dance in the movie. I doubt the stage show dance was anywhere near as good as what he did which might be why it wasn't on the list. I have not seen the stage adaptation of 'Singing in the Rain' so cannot comment on the difficulty of the dance number in the stage show but I assume the stage show dance sequence was no where near as iconic as the one in the movie which is probably why it wasn't listed.
Have to disagree. Singing in the Rain, while an amazing show, is highly overrated. The ballet sequence in An American in Paris is leaps and bounds better than Singing in the Rain.
The barn-raising dance in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was one of the most amazing dance sequences ever. Also, Agnes de Mille's choreography in Oklahoma was ground breaking.
Rachel Mockett maybe in the movie. But on broadway call block tango is just them sitting in chairs and moving sometimes(that’s underplaying it but you know what I mean). On broadway all that jazz is a far better dance number on broadway

Love it! So glad Catherine Zeta-Jones made the cut. She’s an incredibly good dancer, singer and overwhelmingly glamorous! Was blown away by her in Chicago! Good picks. Many favorites.
You can’t stop the beat isn’t even on the list...“choices“ but I LOOOOVE Chicago so much ! And you should make more musical content , I always really enjoy it ! ☺️👍
Okay first off. Mein Heir should’ve been on the list, it’s precision alone should’ve at least been honourably mentioned (not compared). You can’t stop the beat should’ve been number 2 at least, it’s one of the most memorable dances in broadway history I think because of its power and signification (the relationship between white and blacks) and One was definitely a good choice for first place, however “god I hope I get it” from the same show should’ve been an honourable mention.
“Mein Heir” is a much better example of Fosse’s work, IMO, than “Hey Big Spender.” Also, I think the “Manson Trio” dance from the “Glory” song in “Pippin” should have been on here. If “One” wasn’t at the top of this list, my pick from “A Chorus Line” would have been “Music and the Mirror.” That entire performance is so underrated. But there’s a reason why Baryshnikov in “Baryshnikov on Broadway” chose “One” from “A Chorus Line” as his dream dance number and Liza Minnelli said “Sorry, you’re on your own for that one, buddy.”
@@chiara1194 The thing about Bob Fosse in general and A Chorus Line and West Side Story in particular is that almost everything about them is iconic. Fosse had such a distinctive style that everything he did was iconic. Similarly with the different numbers in Chorus Line and WSS, they're all iconic, in different ways. So it's really hard to choose one over the others. :)

Dana says- Pretty decent list, but I think Hard Knock Life from Annie, Kansas City from Oklahoma, and either Singin' In the Rain or Good Morning from Singin' In the Rain should at least be in the honorable mentions.
Originally, Cassie was supposed to be cut and not make the chorus line at all. After Neil Simon saw a preview of the show, his then-wife (Marsha Mason) actually suggested that Cassie should make the chorus because of how much effort she put into the entire show (Neil Simon also reportedly said that if Cassie was cut, "nobody wins"). The script was changed so that Cassie gets hired and the rest is history.
I love that 42nd Street is on the list, but I wish it was higher up and that instead of One (reprise), it’s I hope I get It because that is the most iconic moment to me
Yes, I was going to be very upset if A Chorus Line wasn’t on this somewhere … So very glad that it’s in the #1 spot because it definitely deserves to be there.
Vera Ellen, John Bracia and Danny Kaye in the ‘Choreography’ number in ‘White Christmas’ --although technically it’s a movie about a stage play. Still amazing.
Honestly I would have put either "We're in the Money" or "42nd Street" on the list instead of "Audition" but I agree with putting One as number one so much!
I did a production of Chicago this summer with a town theater company and All That Jazz was our best and favorite dance. It set the tone for our audience and it was fun walking through the isle for the number
I read that Patrick Swayze danced as Danny Zuko in Broadway version of Grease. I wish I saw that. Given the fact that Swayze could actually dance (unlike Travolta) it must have been something amazing.

Cats and Newsies should've been wayyy higher. Both are absolute masterpieces, and are insanely hard to perform! In every single production of both that I've seen, the choreography and performers have always been brilliant. They deserve way more! However, I fully agree with your number ONE. So happy Newsies was on here ❤️
If Chorus Line wasn’t number 1, this list would of been objectively wrong
would have*
Interesting given that A Chorus Line represents dance that exists already just like its title.
I'd have to agree. There are so many incredible dance sequences, but literally everyone has seen those golden suits and top hats, and those high kicks.
Halfway through the list I started saying the same thing out loud. Honestly, this is an outstanding Top Ten selection.
Exactly
It is my dream - to see a Broadway show. To see a legendary musical with those amazing costumes, mezmerazing choreography, to hear all those famous song... Once I go to Aremica - for sure I'll buy a ticket to any Broadway show there!
The intro to westside story is the iconic scene. It's the first image that comes into your head at the mention of westside story. Half the list is great dances but not the iconic numbers.
It's West side story all the way for me. George Chikaros in those tight chinos and purple shirt is about as sexy as it can get!
Wait, no 'Broadway Melody' from Singin' in the Rain? Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse for crying out loud!
Gene Kelly was awesome yes, but he never did that on Broadway. The show only made it to Broadway in the mid-1980s. It was open less than one year so I assume it wasn't a spectacular stage show....likely because there was no Gene Kelly LOL
No mention of Make ‘Em Laugh? The guy was passed out for a week after that!!!
wasn't on Broadway, just a movie?
BTW the guy was the amazing Donald O’Conner.
@@SisterUnity it was on in West End in UK. My parents saw Roy Castle perform the role of Cosmo and said he stole the show with that number..... And yes, he did run up the wall and perform a double somersault.
ikr at least give it an upcoming mention!
Make 'Em Laugh" was and is one of the best numbers I have seen on film. And to think Doanlds was past his prime. Donald along with the Nicholas Brothers were masters.
Love it! So glad Catherine Zeta-Jones made the cut. She’s an incredibly good dancer, singer and overwhelmingly glamorous! Was blown away by her in Chicago! Good picks. Many favorites.
Even though it’s just a movie and not a show (yet, I think) the dance for “From Now On” in The Greatest Showman is amazing
You can’t stop the beat isn’t even on the list...“choices“ but I LOOOOVE Chicago so much ! And you should make more musical content , I always really enjoy it ! ☺️👍
And the original stage choreography is 10x better.
You know, Chicago lost the Tony award to A chorus line. Unbelievable.
The Broadway version of You Can't Stop The Beat was great, John Travolta's movie version was trash.
Thank you Liza is the best
Mein Herr was created for the film. It's therefore not an iconic broadway dance.
The bottle dance in Fiddler is HELLA HARD. I’m in a Broadway rendition of it, and the bottle dance is killing us.
PLEASE DO TOP 10 SEXIEST PERFORMANCES/SONGS ON BROADWAY
Here are some of my opinions:
Say no to this - Hamilton
All that jazz - Chicago
Take me or leave me - Rent
Dead girl walking - Heathers the musical
The point of no return - Phantom of the opera
Omi Veni Baptise Me from Book of Mormon and My Girlfriend, Who Lives in Canada from Avenue Q?
Has anyone seen Cabaret? Geesh!
Sugar daddy from hatai anyone?
Liza Minnelli in Cabaret was pure perfection and a showstopper. And I couldn’t take my eyes off Ben Vereen.
I would include Kinky Boots! Backflips in heels!
Heels and dancing on treadmills.
everyone is saying that cell block tango deserved to be on the list more than all that jazz but can we talk about “i can’t do it alone” from Chicago? that dance was utterly amazing.
Dana says- Pretty decent list, but I think Hard Knock Life from Annie, Kansas City from Oklahoma, and either Singin' In the Rain or Good Morning from Singin' In the Rain should at least be in the honorable mentions.
You knew Bob Fosse would be on this list multiple times. What an icon.
Ditto with Jerome Robbins.
I feel like they should have put Cell Block Tango as an honorable mention.
A Chorus Line is my absolute favorite musical. As a child that was my dream job. When I saw it live, I cried during the finale.
I saw the title and thought of anything goes straight away sjksjksks
I would include "Whip Into Shape" from Legally Blonde. It is so impressive! Although, I agree with the list.
I love that 42nd Street is on the list, but I wish it was higher up and that instead of One (reprise), it’s I hope I get It because that is the most iconic moment to me
No way! I respectfully disagree lol. The reprise always makes me emotional haha.
Yes, I was going to be very upset if A Chorus Line wasn’t on this somewhere … So very glad that it’s in the #1 spot because it definitely deserves to be there.
OK-how do we include "Putting on the Ritz" as performed by Frankensteins's monster in "Young Frankenstein"?
MMMPH MMMPH MMMPH MMMPH RITZ!
Обожаю мюзиклы. Любимые ; Весь этот джаз, Чикаго. Мечтаю посетить Бродвей))) Мечты сбываются)))
I feel like Tango Maureen deserved an honourable mention at least, and I also feel that King of New York is much more iconic, but a good list!
My boyfriend was in an amateur production of fiddler where the bottle dance was done to perfection. 10 nights only dropped once. Xxx
"One" had to be #1. That is the most iconic routine ever performed on Broadway.
Awesome , takes me back to my dancing days , ( in another Life ) !! Makes me come alive !!!
At the beginning I was like “ If You Cant Stop the Beat, Dancing Through Life and Anything Goes aren’t here imma cry
aww, ... don't cry.
Dancing through life is my favorite song 💚
Vera Ellen, John Bracia and Danny Kaye in the ‘Choreography’ number in ‘White Christmas’ --although technically it’s a movie about a stage play. Still amazing.
Honestly I would have put either "We're in the Money" or "42nd Street" on the list instead of "Audition" but I agree with putting One as number one so much!
I feel like the dream ballet from Oklahoma deserves a nod because it truly revolutionized the way dance in musical theater is used to tell the story
@McKenzie- Also, most startling is the realization of who the male ballet artist performing in that sequence was. Can you guess?
So glad that A Chorus Line got that first spot
"glad"? maybe satisfied of course but, 'glad' sounds goofy unless of course you get a cut of the action.
(lol)
I did a production of Chicago this summer with a town theater company and All That Jazz was our best and favorite dance. It set the tone for our audience and it was fun walking through the isle for the number
HOW ON EARTH WAS NOTHING FROM SINGIN IN THE RAIN WAS IM THERE??? Seriously. Choices were made
It's a movie
@@mckenziemalone8044 But also a musical on Broadway right now
@@lilouravensdale9324 it was on Broadway in the 80s and a lot of the dances were toned down so that they could be performed 8 times a week
Love Chicago. Best thing I've ever seen.
I read that Patrick Swayze danced as Danny Zuko in Broadway version of Grease. I wish I saw that. Given the fact that Swayze could actually dance (unlike Travolta) it must have been something amazing.
About 15 years ago, I had the pleasure of taking a few musical theatre classes with Jeff Hyslop, who actually taught us the choreography for One. It was a treat.
🎵Money makes the world go around🎵
🎵the world go around 🎵
Carnival??
Where is Too Darn Hot? That number blows the socks off the audience every time.
Um, where’s Too Darn Hot from Kiss me Kate??
As a former Broadway Baby, these were excellent choices (including Honorable Mentions). Really made me miss my days of performing.
I think both America and the opening dance sequence of West Side Story are more famous and iconic??
I was Jane/a chimney sweep when I wasn't Jane and let me tell ya!! Being a chimney sweep was SO MUCH FUN!! We are all close to the same age and we had so much fun backstage and STEP IN TIME WAS SO MUCH FUN I CRIED AFTER THE LAST NIGHT OF PERFORMING (since i was a chimney sweep the last night)
Yes more Broadway!
I was disappointed to not see Good Morning frim Singing in the Rain! One of the most impressive choreography I've ever seen!
ahh gene kelly, THE best dancer in american history (males anyway) the more ive watched of his work the more impressed i am with him. all of cats should be on this list. such an awesome show.
Cats and Newsies should've been wayyy higher. Both are absolute masterpieces, and are insanely hard to perform! In every single production of both that I've seen, the choreography and performers have always been brilliant. They deserve way more! However, I fully agree with your number ONE. A Chorus Line is probably one of the most recognizable musicals ever! It's absolutely breathtaking and deserves so much more mainstream acclaim.
The only reason I'm stepping anywhere near the horror that is the Watchmojo company is because of their recent Broadway stuff.
No one asked
@@hacyeons I've always found the "no one asked" comment so dumb, as virtually every comment in the history of UA-cam wasn't asked for. So I don't really see its point. Are you annoyed that I strongly dislike Watchmojo?
@@micahadamson4309 Nope, I'm just annoyed you had to announce it. Like you felt like your opinion was even wanted.
@@hacyeons That's literally the point of UA-cam comments. I didn't "feel the need" to leave my opinion. If you like Watchmojo, that's fine, I don't care, I was just voicing my dislike for their channels and my love for Broadway.
What a mood honestly
There are so many but in my opinion the barn raising from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has them all beat. The physicality of the number is astonishing.
I was in Fiddler on the roof for a show and I had to do the bottle dance, the hora (lifting people on chairs and dancing around them), and the Russian dance. It was really hard and on the 4th night I sprained my ankle. Look up the dances and you will see how difficult they are.
I’m glad that they added mentions from Fosse and Robbins. Some lists I have seen have completely forgot about classics like that (Dances from Sweet Charity, Chicago, West Side story, Damn Yankees, Fiddler on the roof, etc.)
I also think 'Gotta Dance' from Singin' in the Rain should be high on that list- I mean, Gene Kelly & Cyd Cherisse; WOW!!! I do agree that Chorus Line was #1, tho'; I never get tired of that
Kristin Schermann They should have included the anniversary performance that included all the past players lined up behind the current players of the part they danced. I remember reading they had to reinforce the stage floor because of the weight of all the dancers.
@@CatKnipND I saw that!! OMG- so awesome, I got tears in my eyes!
Dance takes as much strength and energy as any sport. Athletes don't have to make it look effortless. Dancers do.
Dance is THE best exercise ever.
After seeing those dances from FosseVerdon, I have MAD respect for those dance sequences from their respected productions!! Also makes me really appreciate Cabaret more!! (not my fave movie but man those musical/dance moments, SO GOOD!) :D
FosseVerdon is amazing!
Haley Radiant the movie is a drama which is not usual for a musical but seeing it on Broadway is a whole different experience like Chicago. The movie did not close to the Broadway show which was superb
Haley Radiant I haven’t seen it yet but you make it sound great and the promos look good. I will have to spend some time with my FX app lol
West side was awesome. 😋
