Yeah, I know Brazilians complain about being underscored and sometimes itʻs not valid, but this time Italo beat Colapinto on his first two waves. Way more critical, just barely getting in to his longer deeper tube rides just after fitting in a radical top turn and airdrop into position, and consistently radical. Colapinto did well but he should not have won; thatʻs some crappy judging. Carrisa Moore was dominant and should have won her heat for sure so they at least got that one right. Yes, he had a longer barrel on both rides but he wasn't enough deep, he was visible all the time. His maneuvers were repetitive and didn't even got to the air. What a shame! The soft Colapinto should step ahead WSL representatives, excuse himself to the rest of the world and give the Champion Trophy to the actual winner of this event, Italo Ferreira. WSL has been destroying a reputation of more than 70 years of surfing as a serious competition sport with these biased judgements it has been supporting in order to unconditionally restore the US dominance on this now worldwide sport.
Hey. Don't go after Colapinto for a turd that was, perhaps, put in his pocket...and call him "soft." Your argument is fine without slamming Griff like that. Think Italo would have done that is the roles were reversed? I don't know if he would have, but I certainly wouldn't have slammed him for being put in a position he didn't cause.
@@scottthomasen8978 I did not have any intention at all to slam Griff, by the way, one of the top surfers of the circuit. If you observe my translation to Portuguese above the English version, I called him SUAVE and EDUCADO. If you do not understand Portuguese, feel free to use Google Translator and confirm that both words are not at sall offensives to anybody... However, I agree with you that the adjective SOFT I used at the English may lead to a controversial interpretation. Thanks for your feedback!
@Coral Ahhh. Got it. Thanks for the clarification. The rest of your comment was so well thought out that the "soft" part did stand out as odd! Language...and btw your written English is solid! Can you imagine anyone handing the trophy to anyone else though and how that would completely blow up! Years back I watched the US Olympic boxing team just completely get robbed in South Korea. Same set up where the US team was from very humble beginnings and were all great guys, got totally robbed by the judges, and when the opponents were given the fights they just had to stand there awkwardly. I will be interesting to hear if the judges come back and explain their thought process. I hope the result may be both Italo and Griff can come out with a deserved positive from their insane efforts and abilities....this has been a bummer thus far. Cheers
Griffin's second right should be 8.5 whereas Italo's second right was a 9.5 in my opinion. That 360 in the middle of the ride was far more risky than any of Griffin's turns. This competition should reward progression, innovation and flow more than anything. Italo had the best overall performance in this final, undoubtedly. It is important for WSL to think about what is happening with the judging panel and criteria as many heats are controversial. Of course surfing is a sport with subjective element, but in a controlled environment such as the surf ranch it is clear that the judging has an issue that must be addressed for the good development of the sport.
They did reward flow. Italo's waves were all very hectic. Not smooth at all. I will agree he was more exciting to watch but Grif was way smoother and stylish. Honestly I don't really care either way. They both surfed great.
This gets to a point that keep rattling around my head with scoring this sort of controlled environment. This, and in my opinion sadly, is a format much like and certainly heading towards gymnastics floor routines. The way those are scrored it deducting points for errors in set "moves" that need to be performed and cocideration given to more difficult "moves." I don't want surfing to come to this as a person who loves flow and power mostly, but it seems there is a tear happening where some are pulling it the gymnastics routine way and others the power flow way. Squaring scoring with this in mind will be tough. I think this is also a problem, or for some a benifit, of running a contest out of the water and in a machine.
Faz 20 anos que fazem isso..mais hoje o roubo foi descarado...no Brasil tem que a ver protesto..de todos os surfistas e torcida ..contra a wsl..por um surf limpo..
Look at Italo's reaction to the scoring on his first waves. He is sportsmanlike but really expressing what we all saw and thought, WTF JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!😮😢
Colapinto's first moments in each wave, were just navigating the waves , then some soft turns, until he got some rythm. Ferreira's were solid and heavy turns from the very beginning of each wave. The wave that he got right to the tube from a step down, that was a 10. What kind of game is this? Totally biased.

@Lucas To your point, it happened in Brazil as well during the stop last year. What is odd to me was the 2 judges who scored Italo lowest were the Brazilian judges! Maybe all thought Italo would win it on the last wave and that would make it more exciting?
Griff 1st 2 waves where very similar with Kelly's 1st Round IMO. Kelly's pushing through the lip on his 2nd barrel was incredible though (i think was Kelly's wave number 2 during first round...). But going back to compare Kelly's score and Griff first 2 waves was imo very similar to as scores given at least for those 2 waves. After JJF was out, we were all rooting for "great surfing" and sane judging. Well, we've had great surfing for sure! But, come on guys, this judging was a travesty! 😂
The saddest part about the whole thing was when they interviewed Italo in the awards ceremony you can really see him frustrated, and holding back in his speach That loss could cause serious psychological damage in an athlete's life. It is beyond criminal. Professional surfers doesn't deserves that.

The WSL really is completely fkd at this point, Italo's power and intensity is no match for Griffin here but gets totally under scored for it. The whole judging panel needs a complete revamp or some re-education, there is some conscious or sub-conscious bias going on. I always thought the Brazilian bias and complaining was kind of funny but now taking sides with it.
Yes, they do lose money when Brazilians win. Viewership drops everywhere but Brazil, which makes advertisers and sponsors weary of staying in the game. So why are Brazilians the least popular surfers globally? Easy answer: too f-ing aggro and violent. Ethan Ewing received death threats from Brazilians after the judges gave him the nod over Medina. A woman was physically assaulted in Indo by a Brazilian after HIS friend blatantly burned her. And the violence continued on land. No other surfing nation and its people resort to such insanity and mayhem with such flagrant consistency. If Brazilians don’t CTFO the WSL will have to cancel all events in Brazil just to protect tour surfers. Seriously, man, WTF is it gonna take for Brazilians to get the message and stop being the biggest a-holes at every lineup on the planet🤔🤷🏼♂️ Brazil, you’re doing this to yourselves. Lift your game and embrace civility. After all, y’all claim to be a deeply Christian nation but there’s no evidence of this.
@@coral9597the WSL is a money pit. It bleeds millions annually. But here’s the rub: literally the only reason viewers log off when Brazilians advance is because of the bad reputation they’ve cultivated globally. Yea, there are really cool and chill Brazilians but a disproportionate percentage of them are excessively aggressive, violent, and greedy wave hogs. This has been a well established fact for a very long time. Even Daniel Tosh did a bit about it. Brazilians have got to learn to get along with others. They’re finally a serious force in surfing and deservedly so. But rubbing everyone’s noses on this success like a dog’s face in a pile of poo is a serious turn-off. Sore losers are bad enough but no one likes sore winners.
The WSL is a loosing money machine. The billionaire that owns the WSL makes money by deducting the WSL losses from his federal taxes. I think he wants to sell the WSL and the WSL price would be higher with an austrialian or american world champ

Actually he didn't, which is why he lost. Brazil still winning worst fans in the world though

Eles roubam a 30 anos....mais hj ..foi um dos maiores roubos da história do surf..imagina os patrocinadores vendo uma palhaçada dessa..
All the cry is free though
Cheers
I had no idea that surfing was so committed to clearly manipulated results… what I saw yesterday at Ranch was a disgrace
First person to say Italo should have won!

Um he fell…..and Colapinto’s combination of major moves on his second right was it.
Brazilians are shameful crybabies
@Lucas To your point, it happened in Brazil as well during the stop last year. What is odd to me was the 2 judges who scored Italo lowest were the Brazilian judges!
Maybe all thought Italo would win it on the last wave and that would make it more exciting?
Man Italo surfs with so much more power speed and style… Italo is in a class of his own. Even without his last wave he should’ve won

Italo surfou muito... Progressivo animal
I don't get it, why do they do this? Do they actually lose money when brazilians wins?????
It is all about sponsorship and money, bro...
yes, they lose. The brands earns nothing here in brasil. Our surf markert is so tiny.
@@czarnpg so much potential tho… they are dumb
Seriously, man, WTF is it gonna take for Brazilians to get the message and stop being the biggest a-holes at every lineup on the planet🤔🤷🏼♂️
Brazil, you’re doing this to yourselves.

Southern California native saying Italo got robbed. I for sure felt like he had at least a low 9 on his second right and how did one judge give him a 7.8? I seriously dont get what else he could have done. You want him to give a point of different, well he did with the deepest, longest tube of the event and multiple rotations. Griffen surfed relatively safe and Italo deserved that win. I was so soured after that final.
