I think like a lot of Aussies, he just had a team first mentality, didn't want to be a star.. was happy to just facilitate for Embiid which slowly weakened his own game, his facilitator role was still getting the job done in his last season at Philly but as they lost to Hawks, he was scapegoated.. others were more to blame for that one, especially Embiid for his 4-20 in game 4. I don't think he's even been healthy at Nets yet, hopefully things will turn around this season and he wants to prove people wrong in a team without star players to defer to.
The truth is that Philly destroyed his career when they let the media/fans pressure them into getting rid of Simmons. Simmons was a top notch passer and an elite defender. Him missing those free throws against Atlanta was bad, but they should have stuck by him. There have been plenty of pgs who weren’t good on the offensive end. They just didn’t have the harsh Philly fans ready to boot them outta town. Kidd nor Rondo were good shooters, and they both had hella hood careers. Letting Simmons go hurt Philly and Simmons at the same time
@@AtlMarcus How many times is Philly gonna run a good player out of town? Ben Simmons was fine until Philly fans decided that they wanted his head. He gave y’all elite defense and enough assists to bring y’all to where y’all got. Y’all have done nothing better since y’all traded him. He missed critical free throws, fine. Just take him outta the game in the final minutes.
@@pattycakes1439 im not a Philly fan but when a team literally keeps trying with a player who they gave the MAX extension too and still didn’t improve on the things he could easily at least put the effort into working on. A team and an owner can’t just keep supporting someone who isn’t willing to do the work. If anything I have sympathy for Markelle fultz not Ben simmons
@@AtlMarcus I hear u bro, but whose paying the price of that divorce? Philly. Who going thru the same ish now with an even bigger diva? Philly.. they were better off keeping Simmons and just picking up a good backup. Now Simmons sucks and Philly sucks, but Simmons still getting paid. Ben Simmons is a definitely a disappointment, but far from one of the biggest busts. The biggest busts ever in no specific order. 1)Big Country Reeves 2)Joe Smith 3)Anthony Bennet 4)Greg Oden 5)Markelle Fultz 6) Kwame Brown
I don't think his story is over yet. He still has an opportunity to develop as a shooter and get his head right. I know there are people saying that he has shown that he cannot do this. I do not agree. Competent shooting is learned. Dealing with the thought process behind shooting can also be learned. This is different than rebounding or taking the ball to the basket. Those are in the moment sort of automatically as they are effort based. Shooting is about finding your quiet spot inside and living there. This is a spot that does not have intent or results. It is a spot where only the movement you have done a million times occurs. Ben is thinking. You can learn not to do that. Ask the Dalai Lama.
I think Philly knew he wasn’t quite a max player yet back then but with the soft NBA cap and his potential ceiling, they had to take the risk. Any GM would’ve
And that’s the problem. GMs are drafting players for their potential and not even focusing on what their game is at the moment. Potential means you haven’t proven anything. Then they hope they develop into the player that they want them to be. They do all the investing and investigation on the player and still depend on the potential.
If I ask me I think it’s just his confidence basketball is 70% mental and 20% physical he has proved he can be a star on the court he just doesn’t believe in himself
Not a bust based on what he has achieved in regard to defense. More a disappointment when it comes to the last few years. Something isn't right with him, just hope he gets it sorted out. As he isn't a bad player.
He had decent numbers in his first 4 years after missing a year and helped to win 3 playoff series. He's already earned $100 million and has another $100 million guaranteed. Clearly he's already gotten all he ever wanted out of basketball. Once you've made that kind of money is there any point left to playing basketball?
@@groworchids The last time Simmons was in the playoffs he lost to the Hawks. Averaging just under 10 pts and shooting 33% from the free throw line. Thirty-three percent. There's no contender that would spend $100 million on that.
Outstanding way of piecing all this guy together! Ole Bens hot so much going on with him and it’s all bad! No, he's not the biggest flop, even on Simmons worse, he's still a 100 times better than Bennett. Nevertheless, Simmons has become a joke for the past 3 years.
How is he the biggest flop when Anthony Bennett is still a professional? If people want to talk about confidence, what about Markelle Fultz? The gave the same reasons for him but he hasn’t achieved as much as Ben
Depends how you look at a bust, in the video we made reference to Greg Oden, Darko Milicic & Anthony Bennett, who are regularly referred to as busts. However from ROTY to potentially playing in China or retiring after your first rookie contract extension, from that high to this low in that context huge bust!
defo the biggest bust. was set up for success and even had lebron/clutch backing him to be next. he is now scared to even touch the floor because he knows he is a bust. defo the biggest failure we've seen so far surely
