I would recommend more holes around the base of the can for better air flow. Particularly if you want to use wood. The number 10 can stove is a hobo stove and their are a lot of variant designs available.

Great ideas. Is it safe to cook in the cans? I've heard that it was not safe, but that information might be old.

So are you saying not to do the fire in the can because of breathing in the chemicals, or just not to do the cooking in a can on the top part because of leaching chemicals into food?
