    Hey, love all your content. I just used the AAT 1132 without a mesh backing and it’s much less stiff that way. I think the mesh adds a lot of structure that makes the glue way harder. Just FYI :)

    Just wanted to say congratulations! You're definitely an inspiration to me.👍 I'm looking at finding myself, doing something creative and starting my own business. Very early stages. In the design process, mock up etc so I'm still working at my day job. 💔

  • @KelseyRodriguez
    @KelseyRodriguez 3 роки тому

    So I'm a total rug making/tufting newbie, but how doable is it to mix adhesives together to get a more custom finish? You were talking about how one leaves the rug stiff but durable, where the other leaves it more malleable. Is It possible to mix the two together to land somewhere in the middle, and would that be more desirable than either of the two extremes? These both turned out fantastic, btw, and you're really inspiring me to give this a try soon!

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelsey 😊 one time, I used the AAT glue in the center of my rug (the stuff one) and Robert’s 3095 around the outside so that I could fold the edges over easier. It worked well! But I wouldn’t feel comfortable actually mixing the two together like you would with paint for example… I’m no chemist lol but these adhesives are no joke. I would personally fear some kind of weird chemical reaction but maybe that’s just me being extra careful 😅

    This is amazing AJ and I love learning more about the little details of your process! Regarding a few comments about the similarity of your work to other artists, I don't want to bring negativity into the comment or get sucked into a comment section argument, but I looked up both artists mentioned and I don't think your work could be called a rip off or copy by any stretch of the imagination. I have to admit I was completely ready to agree with the comments if it turned out there were suspicious similarities, but it's normal for artists to have similar references and influence one another. I didn't think your work was overly similar at all and I love the originality of your designs. Don't let it get to you!

    hi, how long does it take for the roberts 3095 to dry? how long do u normally wait until u proceed with the next step? thanks for ur content. u r inspiring

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 роки тому +1

      When I use Roberts 3095, I always back it with a fabric, so I don’t wait until it’s fully dry. I’ll wait 16-24 hours. I’m not sure it ever fully dries actually… it remains tacky from what I can tell. But I don’t mind because I’ll put a fabric on the back and the tackiness helps it stick more

    The frustration of a woven fabric for tufting plus a woven under layer and having to deal with edges makes me wonder, what is the drawback to felt?
    If you took the rug down before applying the latex, or just after, the first tufting fabric edges could be folded under, and felt over that could be cut without fraying. Are there drawbacks?

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 роки тому

      Lots of tufters use felt! I find it hard to cut it perfectly so that it has a super clean edge. So I just tend to use twill tape because it looks so clean.
