My favorite parts of these videos are when someone finally sets a WR they've been grinding on and say "Fuck this game!!" 🤣🤣 I mean I get it, they are glad the grind is over for now, but I just like to imagine an athlete in any other sport saying this... Like an Olympic gold medal sprinter breaking a WR and during their Interview right afterwards saying "Fuck this sport.... I fucking hate running"
It's hilarious, but I don't blame speedrunners. They are not only competing against other people, but they are competing against themselves (and often against RNG that may screw them over). They are often working to get closer and closer to the perfect time (whatever it is for the game) and in the case of SMB, I hear the World Record is 1 frame off from being perfect.
Specifically regarding Logan, I interpreted it less as "I hate this game", more as "Take that!" It's like a buddy challenging you to a race and gloating about how badly you'll lose, and after you win you say, "Yes! Fuck you, man, I beat you!" Only in the speedrunning world does someone take a world record by saying "sorry I took it so soon". The amount of community, and collaboration despite there being a clear competition is so wholesome.
The best example of this is definitely the quest to overtake manntius in Mario kart 64 that shit got my heart beating like initial d man i love summoning salt.
I'm not sure most of us like going such long times without a video, but I'd be damned if I didn't say you make up for it by putting out some of the most consistently high quality content there is. Never stop, my dude. We'll keep watching. Even if there are huge gaps. If you remain this consistent, so will we.
He has blessed us again. As a suggestion for the next game I think “Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom” would be a wonderful video. The game has gone through so many changes and countless tricks have been found, and many runners have tried at it. Considering that is a game from my early childhood, seeing a progression of it getting beaten quicker an quicker would be incredible to watch. Thank you for another great video, and happy researching!
Same with it's essential sequel, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (the console version). That would be a good video to watch. I remember THAT game myself, and probably still have it, just I was never able to beat the game for myself, so I've never seen the end yet.
Words cannot describe how excited I am for this video, I have literally never played any of the games you have covered, but I love your content for the sole reason that you so thoroughly explain the history of the speed running of these games in such an excellent way. The games aren’t the main character in your videos, your narration and editing are, and the videos are all the more better for it. Keep up the good work Salt :)
Exactly. I haven't played most, if any, of these games, and I really don't care about speedrunning. But he makes an amazing video. Great storytelling, well edited, great music selections, etc.

Do you think you might ever do a video for the Dark Story? You said it was less popular, so it might end up being shorter due to having less people doing it, but I still think it'd be interesting to see what's going on with the other side of this games story and the people who play it.
the passion and excitement in these videos gets me so pumped, love the way you structure them and pace everything! thanks for putting so much care into them, they're great to watch after a long day
The inflections in your voice make it interesting! I can tell you have definitely become accustomed to speaking in front of a microphone. Excellent work once again!
It's kind of odd they didn't switch to the in-game timer before they did, considering it's likely certain people who ran the game had better PCs than others. Plus it pretty much made GC runs pointless.
Part if it was the in game time used for runs isn't the in game time the game displays on the save file. that number is completely wrong. You had to take a time calculator and go through your run manually adding up each stage.
Also in the early days of PC, gamecube could still keep up a little bit because of a trick called emblem skip that at the time only it could do. But that only kept it in the running because of RTA time since emblems are obviously not in stage.
i don't know a ton about it, but shouldn't pc speedrunning be a bit controversial? aren't there ways to limit your FPS, generally making stuff lime killzone skips more possible? doesn't a higher FPS decrease time? i'd imagine processing power is also really important in terms of executing complex actions in games, and even just, getting place to place faster.
A new record was achieved a few days ago, a 22:28 by Dage4. This run was awful, but a new Eternal Engine skip (probably saves about 30 secs) gave him the world record. So a sub 22 is humanly possible.( 21 is real!)
I've watched this 5 times. This video is absolutely amazing, and I wish there were tens of thousands more just like it. The audio is great, the scene transitions are spot on, and you just seem chill. Have a good day.
I am so glad to be able to say I’m now caught up on all of your world record progression videos after finding your channel through your choco mountain video. I’m really happy to be able to say how quickly you’ve become one of my favourite youtubers and how awesome it was to see the progression of your videos as their quality got higher and higher. Every single one feels like it’s own documentary and manages to stay engaging all the way throughout. You have helped introduce me much more into speed running as a whole while also providing hours of entertainment. I can’t thank you enough.
you dont need to be competent to speedrun, I've begun running Celeste and my current PB is roughly 1:20:00, which is nearly 50 minutes behind WR, and 35 minutes above what is considered a decent time. I don't care tho because I keep seeing myself gradually improve. Just pick a game that you enjoyed casually. I recommend doing what I call a "fast playthrough" where you go through the game with little to no practice of skips and such, see what your time is, and set a goal from there. I've already cut my celeste PB in half from my 1st run. just remember to not give up, and have fun.
Thing is, I don't have your good attitude. ;) If I get serious, I get TOO serious. Doesn't help that I'm getting older and thus more prone to mistakes, and I choke very easily... Though I'm proud of my casual 52-ish minute run of Mega Man 3. Everyone has one hard game they can just pick up and play, and that's mine...the one I grew up with. I'm just afraid I'd ruin it for myself if I got too serious.
"Then, there was the ultimate risky strategy: Crazy Gadget Skip Skip. Remember Crazy Gadget Skip, where you play the stage on its side? It turned out there was a way to skip Crazy Gadget Skip. It was called Crazy Gadget Skip Skip."
I've watched this video over 20 times since it came out but every time the intro kicks in I'm always looking forward to watching it all again. You are fucking awesome, dude.
These are the best videos. Thank you so much! I hate that so much work goes into the production only because I am like a cat poised at a mousehole, waiting in anticipation of my mouse, (your next video).
Summoning Salt I want to say thankyou. I play your videos in background while I work. There's something *uplifting* about them. Maybe it's the content... people constantly struggling, grinding, putting in hours of work and eventually attaining a goal. Maybe it's your editing... the music selections along with the subjects you describe do a great job of pacing the true stories. Whatever it is, it keeps me upbeat during work. Your videos and the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 keep me from getting pissed off like my coworkers. Thanks for that.
I'm a little chronologically confused about the timeline of when some of the skips were discovered. I used to follow a lot of the individual level runners in 2007, and it seems like a lot of the skips that were mentioned as being "discovered" in 2013 in the video were already in use back then. There are videos by user SadisticMystic of skips like the original Crazy Gadget skip and others being performed in individual level runs in 2007, granted these were on the Dreamcast version of the game. Is that the distinction? That because they were on Dreamcast they had to be re-discovered for the GameCube/PC versions? Anyway, otherwise a great video, I just find myself more confused now about Sonic Adventure 2 Battle runs.
All that buildup just to finish quick with "Ya well forget all that some kid smoked em all with ease" Holy Fuck I Havent Laughed So Hard In A Long Time!
Just in case someone hasnt said, but in treasure hunt (knuckles/rouge) stages, all three emeralds spawn at the START of the level, NOT one at a time, this means you can sometimes luckily come across the second or third emerald while still looking for the first.
The description of the knuckles stage is not correct. The three pieces do in fact all spawn at the same time, but the radar only shows the currently active one. It's possible, by coincidence, to run into the second or third shard while looking for the first one. Doing so awards 1000 or 2000 points, whatever the maximum for fastest speed collection is.
So, what if one makes a map of all possible spawnpoints and a probability chart for each of them? And then, what decides to spawn a shard at a certain point? Every RNG has a flaw.

Had a chemistry/environmental science teacher who taught like this. Was amazing. Class was never boring.
Not only that but he would be the coolest teacher because he himself has a world record in punch out
Only in the speedrunning world does someone take a world record by saying "sorry I took it so soon".
No matter how hard you try, there's always a japanese guy who's trying even harder.
Thus is the law of the land
What if you ARE the Japanese one
@@UnknownRager96 there's another Japanese man trying even harder
But what if you are the tryharder
@@UnknownRager96 then your actually a Korean not Japanese.
I doubt you'll read this, but I subscribed to your channel when you uploaded your second world record progression. I was very impressed with the quality and of your videos, I was shocked to see you had so few subscribers. Since then, I believe I've watched all your videos, and I'm glad I got to see you and your channel grow into what it is now. You were the first channel I used the bell button for, and whenever I get a notification, I order a pizza and enjoy your videos. As always, keep up the fantastic content, never stop doing what you love.
wish I had enough money to order a pizza whenever summoning salt uploads

Honestly, Sonic should be able to do that in the game anyway, so this glitch is really in character!
I think sonic can wall run in lost world.

I don't get it. But I don't understand much around here.
@@DadaPoopoo The band who made the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack was called Crush 40.
Interestingly, it's called that because the founding member just turned 40.
Information brought to you by Game Grumps.
Do you think you might ever do a video for the Dark Story? You said it was less popular, so it might end up being shorter due to having less people doing it, but I still think it'd be interesting to see what's going on with the other side of this games story and the people who play it.
This should have said Hero Story in the video title.
What about last story?
Last story
He never talks about the game story though
Maybe once it gets more optimized. 2 new skip were just found really recently, and the wr is basically free right now because of it.
I literally brewed coffee, shut all of my lights, and got a blanket for this.

the passion and excitement in these videos gets me so pumped, love the way you structure them and pace everything!
thanks for putting so much care into them, they're great to watch after a long day
The inflections in your voice make it interesting! I can tell you have definitely become accustomed to speaking in front of a microphone. Excellent work once again!
It's kind of odd they didn't switch to the in-game timer before they did, considering it's likely certain people who ran the game had better PCs than others. Plus it pretty much made GC runs pointless.
The game really benefits when you install it to a RAMDisk
Korey Nedza yes there is... it is used in half life speedruns... but usually if there is a way to limit fps everybody can use it
A new record was achieved a few days ago, a 22:28 by Dage4. This run was awful, but a new Eternal Engine skip (probably saves about 30 secs) gave him the world record. So a sub 22 is humanly possible.( 21 is real!)
I think he's lowered it to something like 21:45 now, believe it or not

I am so glad to be able to say I’m now caught up on all of your world record progression videos after finding your channel through your choco mountain video. I’m really happy to be able to say how quickly you’ve become one of my favourite youtubers and how awesome it was to see the progression of your videos as their quality got higher and higher. Every single one feels like it’s own documentary and manages to stay engaging all the way throughout. You have helped introduce me much more into speed running as a whole while also providing hours of entertainment. I can’t thank you enough.
I LOVE YOU AND I DON’T EVEN SPEEDRUN
Same. Never speedrun a game in my life. I barely even play video games any more yet i still love these videos
YOU CAN ALWAYS START THOUGH IT'S A LOT OF FUN BUT JUST BEING A SPECTATOR IS TOTALLY OK
Same...there's a bunch of reasons I'd never be a competent speedrunner. I just like watching skilled people perform like living gods.
you dont need to be competent to speedrun, I've begun running Celeste and my current PB is roughly 1:20:00, which is nearly 50 minutes behind WR, and 35 minutes above what is considered a decent time.
If Crazy Gadget Skip is so good, why isn't there a Crazy Gadget Skip 2?
Oh wait...
"Then, there was the ultimate risky strategy: Crazy Gadget Skip Skip. Remember Crazy Gadget Skip, where you play the stage on its side? It turned out there was a way to skip Crazy Gadget Skip. It was called Crazy Gadget Skip Skip."
But the Crazy Gadget Skip Skip was already so much riskier than the Crazy Gadget Skip. In fact, one could call it the Crazy Crazy Gadget Skip Skip
Both of the skips are crazy, so it could also be called the Crazy Crazy Crazy Gadget Skip Skip.
Now to add all up... crazy crazy crazy crazy gadget skip skip skip

Summoning Salt
I want to say thankyou.
Seriously, you could do a full-length documentary and I'd watch it.
the ending of every video is always really satisfying due to the music
Summoning Salt, this channel is so underrated. I appreciate the research and work you do and always look forward to your videos.
Uhh, how about SHUT UP? Jk lol
You literally explained it yourself. Why are you confused
Hold up, where’s the chao garden speedrun?

Just in case someone hasnt said, but in treasure hunt (knuckles/rouge) stages, all three emeralds spawn at the START of the level, NOT one at a time, this means you can sometimes luckily come across the second or third emerald while still looking for the first.
hey, i don't usually comment on videos but your content is beyond amazing, thankyou for your videos, especially this one
Love the vids. Keep up the great work
Bru it was just uploaded you couldn't have already watched the whole thing
FishySquidMan did I say I watched the whole thing? Just said I'm loving the videos lmao
Yeah, I've seen the second/third Emerald Pieces while looking for the first one before.
So, what if one makes a map of all possible spawnpoints and a probability chart for each of them?
And then, what decides to spawn a shard at a certain point? Every RNG has a flaw.
gotta say your videos are damm near perfection. the music, the editing and the love... you deserve more views and subs.
