The question behind this scene which always puzzles me, is whether or not Augustus is covered in chocolate or partially made of chocolate. Cuz if he was just covered in chocolate, Mrs. Gloop would tell him not to lick his fingers. But the line clearly states "Augustus, please don't eat your fingers". After searching through the online script of the film, it says that it may be either one or the other. I guess Tim Burton wanted to make the characters true fate up to the interpretation of the audience.
I mean, I bite my fingernails and my grandma would always say "don't eat your fingers" to me, so this scene always came across as that. I think he could be biting off the hardened chocolate and she's worried he is going to bite down too hard. Then again, it could also be one of the things you said. I wouldn't put it past Wonka to have a factory that could turn flesh to chocolate. Jesus Christ, we still haven't gotten any closer to the truth. This scene is the most confusing part of the whole movie. Lol.
Yeah, I’ve seen this debated so much. Is he covered in chocolate or did he become chocolate? In my opinion, he’s just covered in chocolate. It’s like being covered in cement, can be removed, would just be tricky and painful. Honestly, even a simple change of clothes can fix his problem
