I have welded nuts to the ends of bolts to remove them, as soon as I finished welding the nut to the end of the bolt I spray penetrating oil on it and they come right out np. With a nut on it you can use a wrench or socket and take it right out.

Attach the nut to the weld and unscrew the bolt from it. You should also spray oil on the spiral.

Awesome! Glad to see someone else using the same trick i unintentionally found out. This is the only way i remove broken bolts only because i could never get the nut and washer trick to work.

If the initial blob of weld is good, then the nut is placed over it and filled in, it should work in theory. Being able to apply force to 6 corners of a nut is better/easier than between two jaws too.

Nice trick. But do you have any tips on how to get such bolts out if you don't have welding equipment ?

I wish I knew this before starting to remove broken waterpump bolts, thanks!

How do you protect the ECU and other car electronics when welding on the car? Thank you

It is good to use copper paste on the threads. If you suspect that the bolt or nut will not open, it is worth giving blows before opening.

    Show this to Eric O.
    He'll love it!

Eric has done similar; mig welds a nut on to the protrusion, and then wrenches it out.

Does it matter what type of MIG wire is used (bare wire or flux core)? And what is the recommended wire speed?

When you say the metal shrinks after heating up, do you mean it simply shrinks back down after expanding from being heated, or do you mean the metal shrinks smaller than its original size before being heated up?

any time you heat metal it shrinks smaller than it was before it was heated. We are talking thousandths here but it's enough to break it free. This is how body guys heat shrink damage to sheet metal.
