    4-6 PAC schools in BIG12 is better for both. Not many in middle America watch Utah vs Arizona. But if one of the schools is playing Okla State, you bring in a swatch of fans interested enough to watch a late game. That also allows for a lot of flexibility in the late night slot. With enough schools, an expanded BIG12 (perhaps rebranded) can cover that and also showcase the former PAC schools in primetime slots. It also means there is less one show in town which gives the expanded conference greater leverage (they are not competing against one another for the remaining dollars).

      That is not entirely true. UA and ASU have always had a following in Kansas and Texas. Colorado was in the conference for 66 years before Texas drove them away. Both Nebraska and Kansas have close ties with CU. Cannot speak for anyone else, but in the absence of Nebraska, I have noticed quite a similarity between Husker games and games at Rice-Eccles in SLC. Both fanbases are similar. Just because we are in the mid-continent does not mean we do not watch games from other regions.

    With the news that the new B1G Media Rights deal has an escalator clause built into the deal for if/when new schools are added to the B1G. The deal could end up going from the $7b/$8b up to a near $10 Billion deal. OR, WA, Standford, Cal could all be in the B1G soon. I also saw reports that ESPN is being asked to leave an out clause for those 4 schools if another conference comes calling for them.

    • @ChrisFeist76

      Also the reason for UCLA going to the B1G to save some of their Olympic sports is the same reason Maryland joined. Maryland had already cut some sports that I do believe they have been able to bring back because of their move from the ACC to the B1G.

      I think it's a no brainer B12 would add Arizona/Colorado to add one school in state they don't have. Other schools that think they'd want two in a state are taking a pretty big gamble by not pushing ahead fast. The mountain schools should go as a block for the safest move, otherwise b12 number crunchers may add up that one school in AZ and Utah is more profitable than two. If I'm one of those four schools I'm getting together and leaving today.

    I don't think anybody expects that this is the end of expansion. And the fact that the Big Ten has an escalator Clause means they can move at a time of their choosing. But if it was that good to add those schools the Big 10 would have already invited them. If the rumors are true that any of those new schools in the Pac-12 Beyond what's already been grabbed would not get full payouts dude what does that tell you that tells you those schools aren't that valuable and the Big 10 doesn't necessarily have to make that move right now they can wait a little bit to see if they get antsy and perhaps offer them an even lesser deal.

    • @zonacrs
      @zonacrs 2 роки тому

      They just don't want Cal, their massive debt and fickle fan base IMHO. I would put money on Oregon, Stanford, Utah and Washington. Utah with reservations because it does not bring much from a media market standpoint, but it does bring a lot in on field performance. Perhaps the Big 10 will be bold and grab those four (All are AAU affiliate schools by the way). This might be enough to entice Notre Dame with their long history playing U$C and $tanford, and their current deal with NBC could possibly be incorporated/enhanced. EDIT - I would love to see Utah get a Big 10 invite just to piss off the arrogant faction of BYU fans.
      The three remaining Pac12 corner schools (UofA, ASU, Colorado), and most probably Utah as well, should jump ship to the Big12 yesterday. If Utah and Colorado continue to hold out offer San Diego State and Boise State. The Big 12 doesn't seem to be fixated on AAU affiliation so ASU, SDSU and Boise State are probably good to go.
      The alternative for all those Pac12 schools is most likely the Mountain West once what remains of the Pac12 implodes and ceases to exist as a power 5 conference.

    I would say that politics may have played a part in the PAC’s downfall. I’m not talking right vs. left, but the fact they voted in politicians that allowed these schools to neglect their duties to their athletes and fans. Sure, not playing during the dark times definitely hurt them but they were sinking far before 2020.
