"Losing me balls" could be a quote from my cat. Great tutorial Mel!
Got it! Throw paper at small holes, and balls at big holes.
Less than two minutes in and I've already hit that "damn, never thought to try that.." moment. Brilliant! Awesome to have you back at the basics again Mel! :)
"Do not stir this quickly."
This has the ring of the voice of experience! 😆
Great tips!
Well, now I know how to make a cottage cheese toastie that won’t go off. Brilliant!
You're taking your balls dropping in your stride. Good to see yer back in the saddle, Mel!
The styrofoam ball mix is a great touch!
Not even finished watching this but love this already..... your 'back to basics' are what got me interested in your channel!!!
Thanks for the video.
Quick reminder, if you're going to sand your dried Artex, WEAR YOUR DUST MASK! Chemical dust particles in the lungs is no joke.
Happy (and safe) crafting!
Love this video - absolutely brilliant, proper tutorial. I found it after suffering Sculptamold problems and searching around. Used Sculptamold for the first time (onto plywood), followed the instructions but it went mouldy - had to rip it all off. I am now thinking of trying Artex and shredded paper or perhaps sawdust. Thanks for really useful help.
Really good to see Mel get back to the core of his channel. Loving it.
I never would have thought of using those polystyrene balls. Simply brilliant. By the way, if anyone has access to the store Dollar Tree, I believe they sell the aforementioned balls in the crafts section.
Great to have you back, Mel. You've been missed!
Seeing the finish of the polystyrene balls in artex makes me wonder if there’s an application for this in making cobblestone roads?
Boom! Great to have you back doing your thing. Inserting balls into crevices... I marvel at both your ingenuity and methods of inspiration!
Great to have you back! You can substitute polystirene with Perlite, not as light, but much easier to work with.
Corb: "Why is my bean bag less comfortable than it used to be?"
Mel: ........
Good tips in this video!
I am a total Newb to all of this, and I am loving the videos and learning so much! Mel makes it so fun, and after every one I can't wait to try it out!! Thanks Mel! Please keep them coming! Back to basics is the best!
Been loving your builds! The tips have been very helpful as a beginner terrain crafter.
Your voice reminds me of Eric Idle btw 😅. Your voice makes me quite happy as it brings back good memories.
It 's just so comfy listening to your vids. They've got that smooth friendly vibe.
Great to have you back Mel 🙂👍
Great stuff! Good to see another old school tutorial, you really are back in the saddle. I love the polystyrene ball technique. I've seen people do a similar thing with XPS offcuts for larger pieces.
Mel, just found your site and loving it. The vid I'm watching now is about contouring bases. You made gloom out of shredded paper and some white stuff. The problem is I can't figure out what you're saying saying. You speak English, but I speak American 😂. Thanks for the help.
Happy to see you again Mel~
Love the texture
This is so good!!!!! Thanks you for putting this video out, Mel. That shredded paper idea is brilliant!
Good to see you crackin' on with the basics! Thanks for the video!
Love it . keep cracking on.
Excellent video mate. Always good to refresh old ideas for new viewers
Neat ideas, I'll have to try them out when I've got more room for terrain.
You just hit peak innuendo, sir. I'm not sure if I should congratulate you. Thank you for the video!
Great tips mate, never thought to use them little balls before
Hey Mel! Is love to see a guide to creating tournament terrain in bulk for Age of Sigmar.
Nice gloops. Thanks.
Hell yeah back to basics!
Great video Mel!
Great little video Mel, don't know what you were worrying about.
good vid mel keep up the good vid
Keep up the good work 👏
good vid mel keep up the good vid on you land scaping thanks lee
I'd like to see what can be done by just pouring it, making like a rubble pile or something, I think that'd be very satisfying
Awesome Mel! I'm thinking this method could be good for some plague world death guard terrain
That is genius ... The balls... amazing.
Awesome...
Love to see what Artex actually is and what Mel is using. I've googled it and it doesn't come up immediately.

hi mel just finished reading your book it is great have you any thoughts of doing another in the future
Maybe, but not for a couple of years, I want to get stuck back into the channel mate
When you say "artex" do you mean the stuff that's used for texture ceiling? I know it's that name UK product name I believe. I know here in the US we have stuff like that but I don't think I ever ran across the product name "artex" before. I work in construction an remodeling. so I know my way around a hardware store.
@@bobgivens9095 now that you mentioned it year I think I recall him saying that. I guess I was paying attention to the build and him keep saying "putty" a few times I didn't pick up on it.
Thanks.
Not sure where to ask but... what's the best way to get static grass off a model?
Mel this is a great video and quick question where do you get your 3 mm Mdf from
@@TheTerrainTutor I forget your in the UK I may have to see if there’s a cabinet maker near me for scraps
Great video, Mel! I might not have caught it in the video, but is the shredded paper regular printer paper, or is it more like newspaper quality paper?
Reckon i could use spackle for this?
It might crack slightly when it dries.
But you can always fill the cracks with more spackle!
"quick and easy" he boldly proclaims on a 18 minute video... simple? Yes. Easy? Mostly yes. Quick? Mate, cleaning up yourself and your workplace after that takes ages! At least if your a messy one like me XD
What is artex? Not a very helpful video if I don't know what materials you're using.
Mel's such a lovable character, this is like watching a classic kid's TV show. But for serious wargamers, of course! 😄
Thanks mate
