What ya thinking?
I’m thinking this is one of the clearest and most useful videos on the serve I’ve ever seen.
The fact that arm pronation with a serve aimed away from the target eg a slice will result in the arm in front of you has never been explained so well. Now makes complete sense - it has to if it pronates and remains in line with say the net post. Thanks so much Tom.
Simplifying the whole suppination/pronation thing into calling it just 'arm rotation' is brilliant because it is essentially all it is.
Thanks. No nonsense
100%
Exactly the same thing on Federer’s forehand!
Those who play badminton know that this is indeed the main way to hit faster. The only warning i would give with any high acceleration like this to rec players is potential tennis elbow problems. Carefully watch the finish and deceleration that Tom showed, I think it it very important element to minimize the injury risks! And no need to do this acceleration at 100% of your available power. I have realized that, at 4.0 level, even if i serve 90km/h, not too many people can take consistent advantage of it really. And if i place the 90km/h serve accurately to the corners there will be even less people who could consistently attack.
Enjoyed this! Leads to a very clean motion. Dr Mark Kovacs, RacquetFlex, and potentially a couple others refer to this as long axis rotation. Definitely the holy grail of a good serve, though I find it hard to do every time! Work in progress.
Just sent this to my son. Been trying to make him do this. Hopefully he listens to you. He definitely doesn't believe me!!😂
The same with me...😅 my son trusts only TA )))
That was the clearest most helpful explanation of the different serves I have ever heard. A top 10 instructional video amongst all tennis instructional videos on the Internet. Cannot thank you enough.
This week I was actually studying a guy playing on the court next to me, and trying to figure out how he is able to generate so much racquet head speed on his serve. Your video might have unlocked the mystery and I can’t wait to try this out. I’ve watched a number of your videos and really appreciate the content and your delivery. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. Very helpful. It clarified to me why it’s not really the wrist that is producing the pronation.
makes sense but for me it takes a lot of effort to keep the wrist stable esp. toward the end of the swing which can be quite distracting 😢
the first minute of this video was golden advice
33.3k subscribers. becoming a legend.
so good advice. acually like on a forehand. brilliant explanation.
I didn't hear this advice either never...😢 It's absolutely great advice!!! Just tried it )))
Excellent advice, looking forward to trying this! And you're right, I have not heard this instruction anywhere else either.
Very insightful. Thank you!
😅Like that. A good tip.
I’ll try it on Friday and report back. I always get stuck in that outside position on spin serves.
I tried it out. Didn’t get much success in the arm in arm out. Had more success with shoulder over shoulder from a previous video of yours. Also had the thought: slow arm, fast racquet. That seemed to help too.
Good tips....
Excellent explanation. I like that you emphasize pronation as a way of increasing racket head speed with very little effort.
Sorry. Disregard my comment concerning a content al grip
It's a pretty accurate statement. Way less than 50% of tennis players use a continental grip
@@TomAllsopp😅😅😅🎉
Really nice idea
money
Thanks, I'd like to see your feedback, but don't go to the trouble to make a video.
smh ..still cannot choose ALL vids
Sorry i don't understand...
Spot on!
Another great vid . Best channel for technique
This is good advice. Have you ever thought of doing a video on using the off arm to brake the body rotation which speeds up the hitting arm? Federer, Nadal, Djoko, Sampras and almost all great servers stop the tossing arm with the tossing hand roughly across their chest/sternum. Stopping the non-hitting arm, slows the core rotation but speeds up the hitting arm. Baseball pitches use a similar approach when they tuck their glove across their stomach. It's a bit deceptive as many servers brake the arm across their chest but they then let it fall to their side and go toward the back fence as they land in the court.
Thanks. I'll make a video on this soon
Yes, please.
I was going to make a similar comment. The key is a loose arm, wrist, and grip. This fundamentally a passive move and is best illustrated by Sampras with his non dominant arm and keeping his head up which breaks the torso allowing the racket to speed up as you describe
I think the main problem is a loose arm, grip and wrist. Too much looseness out there
2:47 this was exactly my issue. Tom fixed it. Thanks
Great concept. Makes total sense. Thank you.
I always like your video and great advice. I recently tried using a slight backhand grip and seemed to generate more speed. Any thoughts? Look forward to your comments. Cheers
Thanks. I'll make a video on this!
Analogy with door knob on fhd
Awesome.
I don't know anybody that uses a continental grip on serving these days
what do they use
What is your level?
average club player@@TomAllsopp
That's why everyone you know is bad at tennis.
brilliant!
