That MoS sequel would have focused on Superman 'Supermanning' (not just by his powers but also by his goodness and his will to do good - according to his character arc) around the world. WB wanted MoS to cross $1B because their recent CBMs like TDK and TDKR grossed more than $1B. But when MoS failed to cross $1B, so they feared making MoS2. They jumped directly on BvS because Superman and Batman sharing the same screen would have ruled 2016 box-office. And tbh, maybe it really would have if WB would not have butchered it. BvS [Ultimate Edition] was excellent but the thing is, it got the wrong audience. Or say, the audience saw it with a wrong perspective. Also, it's true that The Death of Superman story deserved a whole film (like the animated one) but people should understand that TDoS was very essential for the narrative or story BvS had. Take it this way: yes, the third act of BvS was a really underwhelming TDoS adaptation in live-action but TDoS was well done and made sense for BvS' story and ZS'sJL. Because Superman's sacrifice stopped Batfleck from killing anymore and his sacrifice made him the greatest symbol of selflessness, goodness and hope, and it united the Justice Leauge. Even Christopher Nolan, who was exec. prod. of BvS, approved to let Superman sacrifice himself. But still I agree that it was early in DCEU and if you think about it, second half of BvS would have seemed like a better adaptation of TDoS if WB would have allowed Snyder to make MoS2. It's good that now there are better and confident executives in WB to make greater decisions.
