My grandmother was in elementary school at the time and I remember her telling a story where one day she was walking home from school and one of those fighters flew in and started strafing her and the other kids. She hid behind something and avoided getting hit but the plane was so close she could see the pilot’s face. She said it was a really scary experience. My other grandma, who was a teenager at the time, was the eldest in the family and lived in the city with her mother and younger siblings (her father and older brothers had died from tuberculosis or smthn when she was a young child). Their house got burned down in one of the air raids so they moved in to their relatives home. Soon after that house too got bombed so the entire family had to move far away to the country-side. She used to tell me stories where she and her siblings had to often run through entire neighborhoods lit up on fire from incendiary bombs in the middle of the night to escape getting killed. I watch a lot of these kinds of videos and play Call of Duty but I admit although war can be glorious, there is nothing honorable when civilians are involved. Men killing each other is one thing (that in itself is brutal and tragic), dropping bombs and shooting helpless civilians especially en masse is another. So yeah this is the reality of air raids. An entire generation of people who experienced this horrible war are disappearing. I’ll probably give her a call tomorrow to see how she’s doing.

I get that some of them kind of had to happen but their still wrong nonetheless, and shouldn't be glorified. People burning to death in houses, people dying of lack of oxygen in the streets, centuries of history being wiped out is not good, it's fucking horrific, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

War is sometime only option but killing innocent civilians is something i hate. To be honest, i hate how America drop atomic bombs to a Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I mean, why city? They should have bombed a Naval base or Headquarter of Japanese military instead of city which alot of unarmed people got killed. Just accept the fact, America is too eager to test there new super weapon and they use Japan as there test ground. America is already mighty that they don't even need to use atomic bomb to win the war against Japan.

This plays up quite a bit the interaction between P-51s and the B-29. The B-29s actually escorted the P-51s up and back to Japan. The P-51s rarely, if ever, flew with the B-29s to protect them from enemy fighters., like you would see them do over Europe against the Germans.
The P-51s had their own targets and would meet up with the B-29s after they each did their thing.

actually since the start of involvement of USA during WW2 already shows who are the winner. its shows how powerful are USA, one single country can fought on two fronts, Europe and Pacific, without having logistics issue about supply their troops with food and ammunition, while Japan and Germany having trouble with logistics issue supplying their troops with proper ammunition and food, even though they were fighting on their homeland.
USA are thousand miles away from their homeland, but having no issue supplying their troops. USA are really strong during WW2. they can produce 90 Aircraft carrier in 1 year.

A couple of points. The -51s were stationed on Iwo Jima. The 750 mile over water flight out (and 750Miles back with low fuel -see the 2 each 108 gallon external tanks) were considered so stressful that a tour was only 15 missions. A -29 provided the navigational guidance. The -51s would form up and recover on the -29. For some reason. the -51 pilots on Iwo suffered an unG0dly rate of parachute failures. IIRC some 15 of 85+/- jumps resulted in streamers. The -29 raids ended up being night low level area missions. The bomb load was 9500 pounds of incendiaries and a 500pound GP with a delay fuse just to keep the firemen honest. New JAF pilots had only 40-45 hours total flight time. The Japanese tried making Avgas out of pine tree roots... After March 1945 not one drop of oil made it into the home islands. The Japanese should have quit after the battle of the Philippean Sea in June'44

One relative was in the Pacific theater for the whole show. He said," yeah, there's all kinds of pictures and film of what we did out there. Watch the ETO footage. It's pretty tame by comparison.".
He was correct, but I would like to see a lot more film footage, just to fill out the whole "picture", no pun intended.
Every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and Civilian employee served fully on every front, and still do!
There's another video in color, showing that the fighter escorts would also ground attack and tear up airfields, small factory's, the docks, trains/train yards. It showed the whole strategy in air power, at the time. It's gruesome, but necessary.

this is sad, if anyone thinks otherwise they should read the book Grave of the Fireflies and watch the animated movie from studio ghibli, both the movie and the book are based off a true story(the movie may be a bit graphic for kids under 13 as it shows alot of blood, and the decesed rotting), based off the authors life as a teenager in ww2 loosing his home and parents in the kobe firebombing (in the movie the fathers ship was sunk from air raids)and then loosing his sitser from malnutrition and starvation , the movie opened up my eyes to home the Japanese were suffering, I recomend watching and reading these so people can get an understanding of how it affected the youth

Where's the IJAAF? IJNAS? Or their Ground based air defenses? The guys that pummeled the US, British, Dutch, and Chinese Air and Naval air Forces in '41 to '42? Did the proceeding years eat away that capability? That they're not able to impede those bombing raids?

The color footage makes it seem like this was a lot closer in time to us than it actually was. Yet at the time, Britain had a massive colonial empire, Japan was occupying most of east Asia, the Soviets were fighting the Germans in eastern Europe, massive battles were taking place in the Mediterranean, and the Holocaust was underway. So when you look at this footage, you are also peering into a very different world compared to today.

Yes. The Japanese believed that their Emperor was a Diety. The North Koreans also believe that their "Glorious Leader" is at least Half God.., a Demi-God. Pretty much a very dangerous path. But who's going to tell them? Everything they're taught comes from the mouth and mind of this "Glorious Leader." Literally a "captive audience." Get caught trying to leave and you get yourself executed. If NK tries a sneak attack...? Yeah, it will be bad for everyone, but 1,000 x worse for the NK citizens.
