Awesome video ! I love DMC floss for the cost, availability and the richness in the colors! This is such an eye opener for storing them by color family. I use the floss bag’s numerically in photo boxes , but I can see how this is perfect for you with designing !, I love your charts , you do some beautiful colorful designs ! I also have the color card and use it all the time for changing colors

Excellent! I feel like DMC has everything. But, it seems there's a snooty thing that makes people feel like DMC is "less than" fancy floss which then those who can't afford fancy floss feel their stitching is "less than" those who use the fancies. The same is true of Aida, even weave and linen. I use DMC and Aida 98 percent of the time. It turns out beautifully without costing the proverbial arm and leg! Thank you for your support of DMC!!!

Fantastic video! I too love DMC & have a lot of it. Many years ago, I put my floss on bobbins & kept them in 2 fishing boxes. This was great for small spaces. As I do projects now, I remove them from the bobbins & put them on acrylic floss drops purchased from Amazon. I label the old bobbins with the project name & put it on the ring of project floss. I use the same cable key rings to string my floss. I sometimes put 2 rings together to create larger ring. I too keep my extra floss in 2 Michaels photo boxes. Each box is labelled with a range of sequential numbers. As you are a designer, I can see your need to store your DMC in your way. I only need my DMC by number for each project. I now only have 1 partially filled fishing box of floss on bobbins. Eventually I will move all my floss that is on bobbins to floss drops. Any floss on floss drops are in projects. TFS.

You are so right about common knowledge. I stitched for years not knowing about stitching in the same direction or that there was a right way to pull the thread on a skein. 😂. I have become a better stitcher just from watching UA-cam. I love that you take time to make these videos. ❤

I cut my floss drops out of cottage cheese lids. Sturdy enough, but still thin enough to punch through. Write on with magic marker. For temporary drops I use old greeting cards. I use metal shower curtain hooks, easy to open and close. I have those with the little screw, not for my hands. Also have trouble opening rings. (Glad you got the Cricket, if only 30 years ago I would too - got an accuquilt instead 😊.)

    Very interesting!
    1. Does the DMC book have actual floss in the colors or is it printed?
    2. I would be interested to know how the color families work or don't work together. Like does 1 work with 2 or no?
    3. I'm excited to know the trick about taking floss off a drop. I thought you would have to take the all the strands off and then re-knot them back on the drop -- which seemed like a lot of work to me and so I couldn't figure out why so many people were doing that. The trick is a game changer!!

My mind is blown with using the stencil sheets for floss drops!! I keep my extra DMC in the photo boxes also. I ended up getting a Y weave basket from Target and it will hold all 20 of the boxes for the color families so I don't have to open and close the bigger container they are in. I use DMC not only due to cost & availability but mostly as I have my old stash plus a newer stash that I created when I got back into stitching. After I got back into stitching abt 15 years ago and started a new collection of DMC my old stash of DMC was uncovered at my parents house .. I thought it was long gone. I've been leery of using floss drops & a floss winder mostly because everything is bobbinated but also just didnt see how it was any easier to pull off drops than a bobbin. But thanks to you I def learned a few new things today! 😊

This was a very helpful and informative video! An additional reason that I really like DMC is the consistency of the colors. The overdyed flosses change so much that sometimes the colors look nothing alike from skein to skein or it is an older design and the color no longer looks like the one pictured in the design. Then of course there is the COST of the overdyed flosses. It's just hard to beat DMC.😊
