  • Caring adults are the centerpiece of a child's development and having one or not can transform a child's life forever.
Deon Jones was most recently a member of the start-up team at Opportunity@Work operationalizing the national TechHire Initiative announced by President Obama to connect more Americans to well-paying tech jobs. Beyond his contributions at Opportunity@Work, Deon has become a nationally recognized voice on the upward mobility and wellness of young people, particularly those growing up in poverty and at-risk communities. As a passionate advocate for the wellness of young people, he was a National Spokesperson at the Campaign for Youth Justice, where he traveled globally speaking on the organization’s mission to end youth incarceration in the U.S. adult criminal justice system. In addition, he served on the board of America’s Promise Alliance, an organization founded by General Colin Powell to end the U.S. high school dropout crisis.

Making my heart hurting and tears roll down my face - from how much it touched me.
This is very true. I’m so happy someone is speaking up about this absolutely critical part of reality.

I grew up in what we call a joint-family. Parents had their own lives, spending more time with their family rather than us. My parents taught me to love and respect each other and always be there for family. I was abused or beaten badly by my father routinely, i was a hyperactive kid . Funny thing is my dad don't even drink but i loved him and my mother. I still love them, even after they kicked me out of their house because I married someone whose social class they didnt approve. Didnt come or even called on my wedding, no call, no contact on the birth of my children. But I still love them. Except that i do not love myself anymore. I guess my parents didnt know how to love or maybe i didnt understand. Family values? ha!

Zack Khan no you love yourself and don’t realize it. You love yourself enough to live a good life with your wife and child. Hopefully you will do better by your children then you parents did for you. More importantly you love yourself because you still love your parents regardless of what they did. That’s called forgiveness. That’s the ultimate example of God’s love. And if you can do that it releases you from every other burden. You love yourself enough to forgive because forgiveness isn’t for your parents it’s for you. It’s the first step to healing. You love yourself more than you know. God bless you.

The word value means how much a thing costs or what color it is. The word is virtue .

It's interesting that people want to think that something at their grandparents or their great- did qualifies them for a crown. It's not being a creation of GOD, or the choices you make or the development of character. If you really want to know if someone searches for healthy thought they first will look at individuals as individuals. What your child, spouse, sibling, parent or grandparent or anyone else is or has done is only a reference point.
