  • He makes observations that are insightful, his prose is eloquent and he writes for one of the most prestigious magazines in the world. Native Montrealer Adam Gopnik has been a staff writer with The New Yorker magazine since 1986. Gopnik grew up always wanting to be a writer and when he reached his 20's he boarded a bus and headed to New York to prove to himself that he could in fact write and write well. Gopnik began by submitting stories to The New Yorker and eventually was hired on staff. Gopnik's skill with prose was quickly recognized as being a cut above and soon began reaping awards, winning the National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism three times and the George Polk Award for Magazine reporting once. During a five year sojourn in Paris, where Gopnik continued to write for the magazine, he penned Paris to the Moon a collection of intimate portraits of the people living in the city of light and with The Table Comes First Gopnik explored the relationship between what goes on the table and what goes around it. And in 2011, Gopnik's Winter: Five Windows on The Season explores the relationship we have with the cold and the ice and snow. Married with two children, a dog and a bird, Gopnik lives in New York where he spoke to Ken Rockburn.
