Great review. Both of my Captains had quality control issues. Thursday customer service actually recommended that I take my brand new Captains to a cobbler to repair the crooked tongue (in a brand new pair of boots). Reached out to Thursday management and received no response. Returned both pairs and received a refund.
The Thursday captain in whiskey chrome color with the storm king sole was my first pair. The same wheek I got them, I ordered a second pair in matte black studded sole.
Thursday still uses leather and cork in their midsoles, so the porn/EVA insole won't actually matter that much if they flatten out. By the time they do, the cork and leather midsoles will have formed to the shape of your foot. Thursday genuinely seems to have thought it through, and I'm very satisfied with my own pairs of Thursday boots.
For the same price, you're almost guaranteed to get worse quality from Made in the USA. You can't fight economics. My 200 USD Chippewa Apache Chocolate has visibly asymmetrical stitching between left and right foot. Whereas my ¥588 (less than 100 USD) made in Guangdong boots are impeccable in every way.
What’s feeding my addiction is watching your videos. This weekend I’ve bought 2 pairs of boots I’ve seen on the channel. I may need to check out for a bit 😂. I find your content insightful, thanks!
Great, thorough review. I really enjoyed it. My first introduction to your channel andvI am now subscribed. Nick at stridewise (a fellow Aussi, though now New York based) was my intro. To the boot community and I LOVE Trenton & Heath! This very boot, the Brown Thursday Captain was also my gateway into boot love. Got the pair April 2019 and I now have 6 pairs of their boots and a pair of sneakers. I also enjoy a couple pairs of Taft boots. I messaged Trenton and Heath regarding shoe cream color and they used Sapphir Bordeaux. I purchased and used it and it bring out that beautiful Burgundy hue you referenced. Thank you and I look forward to enjoying more of your videos!
Loved it! I have whites and GS and other boots most would consider superior but I always love wearing my Thursdays just as much! :) definitely have a soft spot for them
Late to this game, but I live in Arizona, only 90 km (interstate 17 uses metric road signs) from Mexico, and with our strong Hispanic heritage here, I can attest that there many quality boots that are hecho en Mexico 😊
Gateway Drug boot😉🤣 me too mate! Love your understanding of quality. That being production and materials backed by good qc. On point 🥾🥾Lastly, your presentation is always unmatched.
Are the boots sold on Amazon returns or worse qc? Had to return two pairs, the first replacement didn't even come in thursday box, waiting on third to show up, would ordering from thursday's website be better?
Bought some of these recently after having a pair of them in rugged and resilient.it’s definitely a different last between the two and this one fits my narrow feet better.I’m no leather expert but as far as the neatness of stitching etc they compare with my RMW and fit nearly as well, although to be fair my RMW were mto and the fitment was done by a guy who new all the extensive RMW codes if the top of his head.He works in a government department now☹️ such a waste of talent
Good review. i have actually heard some bad reviews on Thursday boots. Things like insole bottoms out after a while, outsole not being durable, and so on. i feel meermin boots may represent better bang for buck. I have seen some resole videos from Cobblers Plus' channel. It seems that 40~50 bucks extra (usd 250ish) can get you leather midsole and leather insole (depending on particular constructions), and sometimes better upper leather from meermin. by the way, i probably wouldnt use venetian shoe cream on thursday's leather. I think bick4 is proly nuff for them. speaking of venetian shoe cream, do you know where to get the 32oz venetian shoe cream at a reasonable price point, by any chance?
@@teikohdotcom yea, you're probably right, but they are thursday boot only. so... If it's horween leather or Badalassi, then venetian. If it's even nicer leather, i'd proly need to use saphir
I have 6 pairs of Thursday boots. The oldest, this Brown Captain reviewed here, has been worn the most (though I heavily rotate wearing ALL of my shoes and boots) and they remain flawless and are extremely comfortable. I have Bick 4 and Venetian Shoe Balm. I think Venetian is better, so I generally use that on my Chrome tanned and my generally nicest leather shoes, and mostly use Bick4 on my slightly lower end leathers. I have some Sapphir, but based on price, reserve it for my most prized leathers or special occasions for pampering.
Thursdays brown is a beautiful color because of the reddish undertones. Their soles are not very good, and I felt every rock after 4 months of wear. Rose Anvil did a pressure/puncture test and Thursdays did not do well. I got tired of suffering and replaced my soles with Vibram, and now they’re great, but had I known, I would have saved the money for a Vibram resole by buying a boot like Parkhurst that already has good soles.
I have the exact same problem with where the cap toe stitches sit on my toes! I've had a harder time breaking in these boots than I have my Nicks and Whites! I'm glad you gave tips on resolving this issue because I was seriously about to throw the Thursdays away.
Just happened on your channel. Great reviews! I too had a problem with my Thursday Captains and the shifting tongue I did the very same thing you did and it has solved my problems.
No, but in modern boots it doesn’t really need to be. The glues are solid (moc toes wedge soles are just glued on) and the Landis machine stitches two threads, one from top and the other from bottom and they interlock in the middle. You can wear the stitching under the sole off and nothing comes apart if they’re made well. Even Nicks on their V-Bar soles don’t channel.
I wear size 7 on iron ranger and beckman... In your opinion should I get size 7.5 on the thursdays.. Or just stick with size 7 and bear with the process?? Thank you
I have the Captain's - already own a pair of Black Matte's and Natural. But I have been wanting the standard brown for a long time. Thanks to eBay, i have my first pair coming to me this week. DO you use Saphir cream for touch-ups on the brown?
Hi Teikoh, just wanted to leave you a few lines. I've watched several of your boot review videos over the past couple of weeks and I really enjoy your style/format of boot reviews and talking about boots in general. I own zero pairs of boots, but I have my first pair of Thursday Presidents on the way! I'm usually a somewhat frugal person but I will pay for quality and hoping the 'cost per wear' will be worth the price. Also, I believe the Captains have a leather midsole right above the faux Dainite soles before it becomes EVA/Poron fiberboard etc.. It is a selling point for me so I wanted to point it out as you may have missed it in this particular video. Or maybe I missed you talking about it. Do you have a video talking about the typical different styles of boots i.e. Chukka, service, work, moctoe, etc.? I'm about to go check if you do :)
I may have to correct myself here, as it is not clear on their site, but several people have said that only the rugged and resilient line has the leather midsole. I must say I'm a little disappointed if that is the case...I'd imagine a leather midsole to be a better option over a EVA 'comfort strip'...? I certainly liked the idea of a leather midsole and sad to find mine will not have it...
@@hellokenIt is not a big deal. The midsole usually wears out more slowly than the outsole. When you need to replace the outsole, replace the midsole with a leather one at the same time.
Great review! Is there any reason why its way more expensive on Amazon? They're £319 on Amazon UK. But $199 on the Thursday website. How does that work out?
Just ordered my third pair from Thursday Boot Co. Love my Loggers in waxed cacao and now I have two pairs of Captains, one in tobacco with the Stormking sole, the other black (shiny, not matte) regular Captain. So now I have a good selection for different situations! Not to mention all my other boots from other companies...lol. Looking forward to my black Captains!
How have the Thursday loggers held up for you? I love the look of them, and they are a fraction of the price of my "real" logger boots. I would love to have a pair of loggers that I can keep nice. I'm hesitant since it seems like nobody is buying the Thursday loggers.
@@madmattahh They are holding up great. Probably the most comfortable boots I've gotten from Thursday. Took a bit to break in the leather but now they fit like a glove. My only issue with mine is that the rubber on the heel is very thin but it looked like they fixed that issue the last time I looked on their website. I recommend them. I can definitely feel a quality difference (better) between the American made products and everything else. But I also love both pairs of Captains I have as well. 🤠
