A youtube channel called "Every Frame a Painting" made a really good point about comedy movies. Almost all of them are complete shit on a filmmaking basis, just the way the movies are made is lazy. Edgar Wright however is one of the only directors who can write as many gags as he can shoot. A really talented filmmaker in any right.
I guess you could say, in any... WRIGHT
That video is so great that even Edgar Wright had to see this
@@sadiqurrahman9741 I know Wright! :)
This guy just seems really happy and excited to be making films and it shows in his movies too.
Easily one of the smartest directors I have ever seen. Shame is, most people don't even know who he is, he's a fucking genius.
Wright likes making original films and exploring innovative styles and techniques. Unfortunately, a lot of big studios aren't willing to invest heavily into those sorts of films. I hope Baby Driver is his big break and gets him into more high end roles.
Neel Parmar The strange thing about his style is that he doesn’t actually make original films. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver clearly share the same tropes with other films of their genre like Baby Driver’s high speed chase scenes and bank robberies and many other trademarks of that heist genre. But he uses the genre to make fun of and parody those films in that genre like how Shaun of The dead makes fun of zombie movies because they were very popular at that time and Baby Driver makes fun of The Fast and the Furious. It’s the timing and his stylistic techniques that make him original.
I'm glad that after Baby Driver, more people have found him. That movie was a very big deal back in the day
god this guy's a genius
neva herdamee *spells God with a lower case letter*
There's a lot of people out there who are as or even more talented than Edgar Wright, but very few directors who stray from the norm get given opportunities, but luckily though Channel 4 have done a lot of offbeat shows allowing him to show his talent.
edgar wright is that cool nerd brother who is always working on some incredible art project in your garage that he wants to show you the bits and pieces of as he does it, and then when its finished and revealed he's still more impressed by the tiny things on it.
he's a real visionary that man. my favorite filmmaker.
I've talked to so many filmmakers and people in the industry who are inspired by him. In like ten-fifteen years there'll be a whole generation of who's-who following right in his footsteps. I'm really excited for it.
It's fucking bizare that Marvel would get this guy to do Ant-Man, although I think Wright pushed for it to be made originally, and then sack him over creative differences. They literally just got an artist and wanted him to act like a photocopier.
i liked Ant man but, throughout the whole film I was just thinking, wow this could improve in so many levels just by changing the direction
+The Raul Guerrero G did you get linked here because of the reddit thread?
***** nope
It pays off in the end though, I enjoyed Ant Man for what it was and I'd rather not see a movie devolve due to obvious creative differences (Fant4stic).
i think if ant man wasnt in the MCU, i could totally handle that if it meant a superhero film directed entirely by edgar wright
On another note The focus pulling and choice of lenses was awesome. difficult task to master so kudos to the cam op
Focus pulling would be done by someone else. It is it's own job
+Gasparagus Productions still part of cam op still difficult... we always use a FP which works with cam op it is a cohesive team. but i am sure you understood that
But your comment implied it was one person
don't read too much into youtube typing
The 1st Assistant Camera does focus pulling, but yes, it's very hard.
The BES!!!!!T!
I always thought it was about Evil Dead 2, as well. I think because of the snap zoom into the closeup, which is less Scorsese and more Raimi. At least to me. Edgar Wright is the coolest. I could listen to him talk about movies all day.
Put it in Pops ! you guys could pull it off!
I love Edgar Wright's style. I think he uses for features of horror and thriller genres for make people in the mood of tension. I love his style. Really.
His points about the sinister beer shots and upside down Fosters logo were hilarious.
I love this because it tells everyone exactly what I'm saying, Edgar doesn't do the fast-cut montage just as a gag, but with reason and specific parody behind it. Thank you Mr. Chen.
+Babbling Studios Yeah!!
Edgar Wright, sir, you are awesome!
This type of stuff is like porn to me
Dude, don't tell the rest.
I love listening to this man speak
he does the best shots and transitions. Period
Dave, this is awesome. Thanks for putting it together and please keep doing more!
Loved the director's insight and video to go with it.
Groovy.
not groovy JD
Kyle Demoderpifnlikskin he put the Asian in Home Invasion.
Thanks. I love his signature style.
Could you please do one on Guy Ritchie!!
Thanks!
Esse cara é um genio
...
This is just great.
Great video, really informative :)
love it
awesome
Edgar Wright is the man!
What camera/lenses did you use to get those intense closeups? The zoom and focus are amazing.
Done in post maybe
Fucking AWESOME insight.
I recognize the song at the beginning from one of his movies, but I can't remember which one. Anyone know the song name?
Nevermind, It's "The Blue Wrath" by I Monster.
This is the most important video on you tube. Oh...and who in the F@%K thumbs down THIS !!!
question did they use zoom lenses to do these close ups or was it a dolly the? I heard him say he used a long lens, did he use a long lens of. every single one?
For almost all of them (especially the really close ups) it would have either been a zoom lens or digital cropping
For almost all of them (especially the really close ups) it would have either been a zoom lens or digital cropping
I was wondering the same, I assumed it was either a 24mm-50mm or something. This makes a little bit more sense I guess...he did mention long lenses in the video so what does that mean ?
What song is that at the start???
I Monster by The Blue Wrath, from the opening credits to Shaun Of The Dead
Wright is a genius.
aku ada tengok video macam ni tadi. suara bapak bosan. kau nak orang tengok ke tak sebenarnya ahha
People calling Edgar Wright “this guy” in the comments is seriously annoying me
I like the talk but this video is disorienting. Too many fast shots for too long... just annoying really.
I love his film techniques they're world class. I just don't like his movies.
What don’t you like about it?
