- The Platters - Stand by me 2008
Original by Ben E. King 1961
When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid
No I won't be afraid
just as long as you stand
stand by me
And darling darling
stand by me
ohh stand by me
ohh stand
ohh stand by me
stand by me
If the sky
that we look upon
oh yeah should tumble and fall
or the mountain should crumble through the sea
I won't cry
I won't cry
no I won't shed a tear
just as long as you stand
stand by me
and darling, darling
stand by me
oh stand by me
whoa stand oh yeah
stand by me
do that .. baby.
Uuh huu huu (stand by me)
Ooh hoo hoo (stand by me)
Ooh yeah (stand)
Ooh hoo hoo (by me)
And darling ooh hoo
stand by me
oh stand by me
oh stand oh yeah stand by me (by me)
stand by me
whenever you're in trouble baby
Ooh hoo hoo ...on the .. baby
Ooh hoo hoo (stand by me)
Ooh Ooh yeah yeah
stand by me
stand by me
this performance was more than just pretty good. in terms of musicality, mainstream music these days dont even compare to the legendary performances like these.
Good sense is the highest value🎉
What a beautiful songs were in those days,
Thank you,
Stand by me....and only you..and on. and on..
All a beautiful melody was coming from a beautiful soul
One year ago yesterday Mr Reed passed away but The Platters songs will live on forever.
It goes without saying that those old great moments never come back. They live in our memories.
There is only one remain ORIGINAL "Platter" left and that is Herb Reed.
I saw the Platters in 1983 at the 4 Queens in Vegas and got their signed picture.
Fabulous.

I love that my friend Wayne gets to show off his skills on lead vocals!

I want every version of this song ever recorded played at my funeral ... I'll be rocking along and getting misty in my coffin.

If she is not still there, it was worth the lesson but not the time or the pain. But and if she is there when you look up. Praise her. Give her her due. Prepare for her, she is worth it.

ben fatta questa versione, ma i Platters di 50 anni fa avevano la musica nel cuore, ero un bambino, ma sentivo che non recitavano la canzone.

I'm aging and I'd rather listen to the original group.
This song sounds great no matter who sings it---hey, Platters, why did you wait so long to cover?
Eles não evelhecem
Please Darlin' Stand Bay me.
Interesting, in this video we have Herb Reed, the last original member.
how can it be the Platters?? they are all dead!
This is not "The Platters", sure Herb Reed is on stage but he is lending no vocal support to this cover of Ben E. King's original recording of "Stand By Me" . There is one man alive today, Sonny Turner, who joined the Platters as lead singer in 1959. Only Sonny Turner can do these songs with vocal styling and stage presence that is the real sound of the "Platters". Sonny is still alive and performing in Las Vegas.
Taco Gillespie. I appreciate your response. As a fan of the Platters for 60 years, I am aware that Herb Reed was the only surviving member of the original group. I"m also aware of all the lawsuits that were filed by various people trying to determine who had the legal right to use the name "The Platters"....With all that said, that does not make THEM The Platters. Would you accept Paul McCartney (if he were the only surviving member) picking three men and then calling them "The Beatles?" I think most would have a problem with that. Or..two different men calling themselves The Everly Brothers? I can appreciate a TRIBUTE group doing the Platters' beautiful songs, but they should not try to pass themselves off as "The Platters"....When all is said and done, the Platters, the group who made all those fantastic hits, are: Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Zola Taylor, and Herb Reed. Even Sonny Turner was not a member of that hit making group, and to my knowledge he only charted two songs under the Platters name in the late '60's.
Thank you for saying this. There was just one group of "The Platters". I was lucky enough to see them when they came together in the 60s one more time for a world tour and came to Hong Kong where I lived at the time. Others have called themselves The Platters but none ever sounded like The Platters cause there was only one group, The Platters, and I have been a fan since I was a child in the 50s. I think its sad for any other group to be allowed to carry their name.
David Lynch??

Great research and knowledge; I appreciate your summation and agree totally with the ethics of it.
This must be the "Turkey Platters".
The name of this group should be named The Tribute Platters because they certainly are not the Real Platters with Sonny Turner !

Hi. I HOPE YOU ARE ALL KEEPING WELL. Would I be right in saying some of the Platters line up were called Sweet River and toured with Herb Reed some years back.
I had a good chin wag with Herb and I must say he is a Gentleman indeed. Full of sophistication truly a Worldly person. Hey If I keep this up he wont be able to fit through a door, Ha Ha.One more thing can the powers that be give mepermission to feature you all on my brienodeargain channel youtube and can you update me
about Herb .
@pornguy2 hai ragione!
@Flytownn
I don't get it. He looked like they were singing HIS song...
...but that ain't Ben E. King.
Is that old guy on right real Platters? I think so..
1.Cubra sua boca com a mão
2. Faça um desejo
3.Feche sua mão (punho)
4.Ponha sua mão no coração durante 5 segundos
5. Envie isto para mais 3 vídeos
6. Amanhã vai ser o melhor dia da sua vida
OMG! They are not the Platters any more than I am Barbra Streisand! Without Tony they are NOT the Platters. Shocking when you compare this to the original group.
+PlattersFan1 They are the only Platters group in 2008 that had one surviving member of the original group and that is the bass singer Herb Reed. Now all of the original Platters are dead but Charles "Sonny" Turner who took over lead singing duties from Tony Williams in 1960, is still alive and performing regularly in Las Vegas.
sorry they need to leave leave the platters original alone. as well as King,
lol lip singing
Not a good rendition of this Ben E. King hit, and to ascribe this so-so performance to "The Platters" does their memory harm. Even though this group herein is actually Herb Reed's Platters (Herb Reed being the only original Platters amongst this conglomeration of so-so vocalists) it certainly diminishes the star that led the original Platters to well-deserved glory & fame in the music world. I don't knock Herb Reed (bass) for trying to make a living off the Platters name but "no compare", dig?
herb reed please quit now and let us remember you and the platters at their best and not this garbage
Horrible versión
cool
