Hey everyone thanks for watching this very "different" video!! I showed this to my internship classmates this morning and they all laughed at how big the bites I took were. I started laughing because I had never thought of that, and after 11.5 years as a pro eater, haha they were all normal bites for me!! I look forward to reading feedback from those who watch it!! Happy Halloween weekend!!
Hey Randy as a nurse I'm glad someone who can appreciate how food tastes is getting involved in dietary needs for people with dysphagia. I've had many dementia patients starve themselves after they were started on a puree diet. If you can make eating pureed food more enjoyable it would help us medical professionals out.
I'm 43 with Dysphagia and I so appreciate this video. It's been more helpful than an hour I spent with one dietician who made it seem like my life would be over, all doom and gloom. Thank you so much for raising awareness of our needs and showing with a little imagination, you can still eat well. I'm a big fan of yours and of course your beautiful lady! 😊
As someone that has struggled with eoe and food getting stuck, this video was super cool to see! I don't know why I never considered pureed food beyond the nastiness in the baby food aisles 🥴 I've been doing better with food in general since my last dilation but I'll definitely check into some of these options!
@@jayjohnson8403 yeah, because of that, im still taking in 4000 cal a day to maintain weight, but eating “goop” everyday is tiring. Texture is so important to eating. It’s similar to flavor fatigue. Texture fatigue is real, so stuff like this helps loads
My son has Myasthenia Gravis and I have a paralyzed vocal chord. We both eat modified diets to be able to eat and not choke (eating is scary for my son). It's amazing what many are unaware exists until it's very needed. I'm super proud of you💗
I worked in Rehab and it's great to see the old system changing for nectar, honey, thickened liquids and food. Many patients use to say they where tired of the same dinners and foods everday. And good to see that the thickened powder won't have to be used a lot. Its time for changes for patients feeding and care.
Wonderful to witness the evolution of Randy Santel. Very interesting, some of the nutritional considerations that the healthcare industry is faced with. What might be entertaining for some of your subscribers would be feedback from your fellow students and teachers, with respect to your eating habits as a competitive eater.
Hi Randy! I’m an RN so I’m very familiar with the new levels and framework for our patients with dysphagia. Props to you for trying the puréed foods! Thanks for the great video
When I work at a rest home we had to pureed food we would take regular food you would take it put it in a blender and you would use this white powdered stuff and it was Blended up so the patients could eat it easier without choking
Absolutely loved this style of video! As much as my house loves the family-friendly fun eating competitions, educating and promoting health is really awesome to see. I have to abide by an altered FODMAP diet myself, and have several friends with dysphagia. Things like this really do improve the quality of our lives a lot, and it's awesome to see.
Thank you for this. My mother worked for a nursing home when I was a teen (30 years ago) and at that age I was appalled at the lack of quality of food. I actually told my mother how horrible it was that the folks had to eat the garbage they were being fed. This gives me new hope for the future. BTW, you look fantastic. Great job on the sexification!
So many times I had to feed Nursing home residents the same plate of pureed brown meat with gravy. Pureed English peas and mashed potatoes. Pudding. I can't imagine having to eat that day in and day out! Some Nursing homes did much better I will add! We went by Nectar and Honey thickness. I recognized the coffee thickness immediately. Also thank you for throwing the "old terminology " in there too! You really are amazing at what you do! I would LOVE to see more content like this!
My stepfather has had dysphagia ever since radiation for throat cancer several years ago. It is so nice to see you do this , it is a huge problem finding stuff he can eat that tastes good and isn’t just quiche or scrambled eggs all the time .
It's been a joy watching you in your education journey and I love when you share content like this! It's so important for people on medical diets to have ENJOYABLE food and all of the food you showed today looked great. If anyone knows TASTY, enjoyable food, it's you, Randy!
Thank you for this information. Things I wish I knew more about during the final year taking care of my mother. I should have had an emersion blender.....instead of just trying to smash it up. I never knew about such a blender at that time. And I was also blessed with a wonderful nurse during the last time I let my mother stay in a rehab hospital before taking her home for good. I told him she wants a strawberry milkshake. (she was not allowed that thickness of food at the time) But he said, go ahead and bring her one. Though the other nurses in the next shift had a fit about it when they saw it, he told me later he felt in that in her last months if she wanted to taste something and was finally showing some interest in eating something.....go for it! Thanks for teaching us. I am going to show this to my daughter. She would do well to have this info just in case. LOL (I am getting up there)
Very fascinating! I worked with developmentally disabled men in a residential setting that requried me to follow the old system chart to prepare foods to conform with their swallowing disorder to prevent aspiration. Extremely well done video!
You are looking great RANDY. As a Registered nurse, we commonly order these types of diets all day long. Dysphagia is really hard on our patients, but honestly the food all tastes pretty darn good from the kitchen.
Looking good Randy!! Glad to see you getting back in shape 👍 My wife and I were getting worried at times, watching the challenges you were doing, heavily perspiring and sometimes getting short of breath, It was painful to watch but hey, you are looking amazing and we’re very proud of you for doing what you’re doing, losing weight is not an easy thing to do, it’s hard work but it all pays off in the end if you keep at it and the results are incredible, keep going dude, Wishing you the very best of luck 💪💪💪
Randy, interesting video! I work for a large hospital so I will be talking to our nutritionist's about IDDSI. Great job as always and congrats on your further education.
Omg I so loved this!! I support adults who have a pureed diet. I always make sure their food taste good. Choking is a HUGE fear in my line of work. If someone has to have a purred diet, do it right! Loved this video
I gotta tell you, I've beat cancer 2x but, this last time this past February cancer robbed me of my tongue, the ability to speak, eat and drink. I'm now 100% dependent on my G tube. I used to dislike puree food. Now, I would give my left toe to be able to eat that. I enjoy your videos .
Very informative, thank you! You never know when yourself or a loved one will be in a position that will one day need this. It's also good to know that taste wise, it's Randy approved!!! 👍
I was down at froedtert hospital in August of 1999 I had the gastric bypass surgery and it took along time to recover I went from 414 lbs to 220 lbs and I have kept it off and I ate food similar to the the food you were showing in my opinion that had it's own taste and texture and it was not that had either and I thank God for every day I am living thanks for having me have that in surgery
30 jaar geleden was het eten voor patiënten die zich verslikte op die niet konden slikken niet te eten . Dit ziet er veel beter uit en volgens jou zijn de smaken prima . Dank je Randy voor deze video ☺
I.had no idea how complicated it is to make sure the food is properly prepared for patients. Well done Randy!! Keep up the good work with your internship!
Very interesting! Many years ago I had an uncle who developed a condition where most of his foods had to be puréed. It’s great to know people in similar situations are able to consume favorite and nutritious foods in a different form.
Being in the field that I've been in for 9 years this makes me happy. Most of the kiddos with special needs I've taken care of had to had modified food. One inparticular aspirated on food. It sent her to the hospital. The stuff that we came up with was pretty cool.
Thanks for creating this video, Randy. Gives me inspiration to do my own video for our hospital when we transition to IDDSI. Keep sharing your progress in your internship!
Thank you for this video. I just I have seen this video 8 years ago when I was working with individuals with different dietary texture needs. The only thing we would encourage is to take smaller bites.
I wish we had this info back in the 80s when my grandfather was alive. He had lots of issues with choking on foods. He did eat a lot of smooth soft foods but he didn't have so many choices. This program would have been perfect for him. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this subject!
Reminds me of the food they ate in the first Matrix film. Breakfast of champions. I also watched a video where patients were given these jelly pods to remain hydrated.
Super educational and I was wondering about the big bites you were taking too! Ha ha!! Thanks for sharing your journey with us and you are looking great.
You're amazing, Randy! You should be very proud of yourself for all that you have accomplished and the absolute beast mentality and discipline you have to do what you set your heart out to do including these sexifications as you always do great dieting and exercising.
Fascinating. Thanks for the post. We start life eating baby food and we end doing the same😳. Never understood why hospital food is so poor and as I am going in on November 9 I shall smuggle some snacks into my room🤫
I used to prepare food for people with dysphagia. Most of my clients either had pureed or ground diets. Everything was well seasoned and you mixed the food with some kind of flavorful liquid like salad dressing or broth.
Honestly, I'd probably eat all of that. It looks good to me! Good video, Brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming. Have a GREAT weekend. God bless.
Hi Randy , this definitely was a different video that im used to you doing , but i think you done a fantastic job presenting everything and giving us feedback back on your thoughts about all the different foods.

I puree everything from lasagna to canned carrots and everything in between.. it's actually not that bad.. I have been doing it since 2002 no choice in the matter.. I can't even have minced
Wish the hospital offered something like this when I had my stomach surgery. All they instructed me to eat is, literally, baby food. Some was o.k., like banana, but most was awful. Glad they came a long way since then. Happy Halloween.
