  • Installing a Victron Energy Shore power inlet is the focus on this video. This is a process that is pretty straight forward if you're already a veteran of installing windows and skylights in a van. But I figured I'd show the process anyway just to settle any questions people may have about the installation.

    🕵️‍♂️ WHO AM I?:
My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 27 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation, which is where I began growing my business. I then returned to Rycotewood to teach Evening Classes for 2 Years, while also teaching City and Guilds Furniture Making for 3 years. They were some long 12 hour days!
In September, 2021. I resigned from teaching at the school to focus on my own business.
In addition to all that studying and teaching during the week, I occupied my weekends working at Axminster Tools and Machinery in Basingstoke. For 5 years, I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands. I discontinued this job role in 2019 to focus on teaching at Rycotewood and my own business.
During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two competitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best. I also have a Free Online Woodworking School which you should definitely check out!

Please put nylock nuts on those fasteners, or a second nut as a lock nut. They will vibrate loose.

Hey Matt, for the primer, spray in a little cup and apply with a small art brush to avoid pesky runs. All the best!

I just got my first travel trailer and I'm loving this series so far! If I could offer a suggestion as someone who's installed a lot of shore power inlet plugs over the years on boats. Your going to want to add some silicone sealant to that gasket. Those gaskets never seem to be very UV resistant and a layer of silicone on each side seems to help support it from cracking apart. It also helps seal the holes from moisture and thus is another layer of rust prevention. Keep up the good work!

Interesting, I was thinking about having an under the van hook up with something more caravan traditional.

Instead of nuts and bolts, I used screws that went through and gripped onto a piece of ply on the inside of the van. Does anyone know if that would be sufficient? or nuts and bolts is really the way to go ...

HI Matt, Why specifically did you use the 'Vitron' plug?....., especially if it restricts using other leads or connectors if you you need to source your power from someone else for some reason. There may be a very good reason for this choice. It is a nice looking fitting M must admit! I do loke your deiign ides for this vehicle..... Marcus
