This video is really helping me to put a lot of things into perspective for the first time. I have struggled with weight and body image issues for a long time. When I was much younger, I was too thin to look like the jacked men that I looked up to. When I grew up a bit, I swung in the opposite direction, again, without any muscle on my frame. I also wasn't athletic. I almost thought that I would never even get close to my goal physique, much less achieve it. The keyword here is almost. On some level, I must have believed it must have been possible, because I still kept going at it. I tried working out so many times, but I never stuck with it long enough to see any real results. I would get frustrated after only a few days or, sometimes, weeks. Fast forward to 2021. This was by far the worst year of my life. I was depressed for seemingly no reason, which made me even more depressed because I invalidated my own feelings by comparing myself with people whose situations were worse than my own. It wasn't just because of my body, though. I thought I had fundamentally failed as a human and that perhaps the world would be a better place if I did not exist. Somehow, with some support, I was able to make it out of 2021 and I tried to finally lose some weight. I tried an exercise and dieting program, but I couldn't even tell you if it worked because I was only on it for 16 weeks and I wasn't really going as hard as I would have liked. After this attempt to get in shape, I just let myself go, and became my heaviest at 88kg. At 165cm, this was a nightmare. Occasionally, I would have people make remarks about my body. One time, someone even told me that I occupied too much space in the back of the ride we had ordered for an outing. I felt like a hippo, minus their incredible strength. I had almost given up by that point. I was still unhappy, but I didn't know what to do about it. The thought of possibly achieving more than I had was a thought that continuously tortured me as I tried to settle for less. It wasn't until last year, on the 6th of September that I realized I had had enough. I was going to try one last time, but this time, I would do things differently. If I failed here, then I would just give up forever. I had to make this shot count. So, I went to work. I re-educated myself on what I needed to start. This was when I discovered that lifting was a better way to achieve my long-term weight loss and muscle-building goals. I also decided that I would take on a more experimental approach. For instance, I had always tried to wake up early and workout first thing in the morning. However, I hated that. It wasn't for me, and I wasn't about to force myself to do something that would make me quit again. So, I started working out in the evenings, and sometimes, even late at night, when it is generally not recommended to do so. I experimented with a lot of routines. If I didn't like an exercise, I would educate myself on using the correct form, or I would switch out the exercise for another that could accomplish the same thing. I was madly persistent too. This time, though, I actually solved the problems that presented themselves on my path. It was difficult, but slowly, I started to make progress. I went down many kilos. Somehow, at the start of my journey that night on September 6th, I discovered that I was lighter than I was in 2022. I can't tell you what I did, but I was 8 kilos lighter than I was in 2022. Still, 80 kg is a lot of weight for someone at my height. Again, I continued. Three times a week every week. I gave myself room to fail as well. At a minimum, I needed one day of exercise in the week. I was finally transforming. People began to take notice. I began to take notice. Now, I am down 10 kilos with some muscle gained and it has been a year since I started this. I have actually even gone below 70 kg, but I figured that I wanted more muscle on my frame, which is why I'm currently heavier than what most people would call my ideal body weight. What you have made me realize is that the people who succeed aren't the ones that just doggedly persist when the going gets tough. Creativity. Problem-solving. These are the things that make a difference. If you try something and it doesn't work, find another way to do that thing. If you can't find another way, then change how you execute that strategy. There has to be something that you aren't doing or aren't doing correctly. Document what you have done so that you don't have to do it again. Really think about how to achieve your goals. The issue was never discipline. The issue was that for whatever reason, you couldn't solve the problems that you faced. You also viewed your mistakes as setbacks and things that shouldn't happen. Meanwhile, what happened was exactly what should have happened, given your skills and knowledge at the time. Understand: you are not where you want to be because you are not yet the kind of person who would be in that position. To get there, you need to be able to try things and be willing to step back and reflect on what you have done so that you can change if necessary. Thank you for reading this far if you did. Another way you can look at it is to consider yourself an artist and whatever you are doing as your art. It doesn't matter if anyone likes it now. When you die or when get older some may appreciate it but in the moment you create because you are an artist. That's what artist do. No other reason is needed to motivate your actions.

My only gripe is, I have genuinely no idea where to put my energy into. I thought I liked Tech and coding, got a job, it was such a harrowing experience that I do not wish to go back into that field. So though I’m greatful to have worked but I also feel that hat part of my life and time was taken away and could’ve been put into someplace that would’ve been worth it. I’ve seen smart kids(not just grades) in my class have a clarity for what they want from the start and work slowly to achieve it, somehow I have no idea what mine is. I have small spurts of energy in personal projects that only remain that way and I keep getting older.
Until very recently, I used to assume that "believing in yourself" were just empty words of wishful thinking. I just found the concept too wishy-washy and irrational. But then I realized that I can't NOT believe in myself, I can't just let myself fail "because I probably wouldn't have succeeded anyway." So I put the concept in better words, and saved it on my notes: Believing in myself doesn't mean having unfounded confidence, it means I will NOT give myself permission to assume I will fail in the future based on past mistakes. That's the definition I chose to go with. And it's helping me.

I get what you're saying, but I don’t totally agree that laziness is just fear. Sometimes it's more than that-like burnout or just not having clear goals. I get what you're saying, but I don’t totally agree that laziness is just fear. Sometimes it's more than that-like burnout or just not having clear goals. And honestly, not every failure is a lesson; sometimes it's a sign we need to take a break and rethink things. Maybe instead of always pushing through, the real key is knowing when to pause and reset?
Personally, I think it’s both! You just have to know yourself better, sometimes it’s fear and you have to pass through it and sometimes you need a break, it’s about balance !!
